[Archive] Wanting your questions for FW Open day

AndyG:

The title kind of says it all.
I am attending the FW Open day. After a lot of emails with FW, they suggested I ask any questions I have directly to the people who make decisions, to which I said I look forward to it and will come with a list.

I am hoping, with their consent, to video any “interview” I get and then upload here, but I want to know what you want them to be asked.

Here’s my thoughts:
1. Your marketing strategy confuses myself, and others concerning the Chaos Dwarf range. For instance the lack of production with regard to weapon options for the Infernal Guard. With other companies producing very well sculpted and produced models which can fill these gaps, it seems madness that Forge World do not make these weapons which will fit with your existing models, therefore generating more sales.

2. Concerning hobgoblins, I understand the reasoning put forward by your customer service representatives over the phone and by email. For instance, both myself and others I know have been told that production would cost £8-£10 per model and so sales would not be substanial enough to justify production. I find this cost strange, as the Infernal Guard cost £3.70 per model (£37 for 10) and this seems to be comparable to for instance, imperial guard troops; another horde troop type. Furthermore, as the most common conversion for hobgolins appears to be Stormvermin with gnoblar heads, these components cost more than the £3.70 per model.

3. Many Chaos Dwarf Players are frustrated that there are not more options within the army. For example a non-magic Lord choice. While I understand that Forge World specialise in dealing with a specific timeline in a campaign, I am also keenly aware that if a digital army book was released in colaboration with Games Workshop Design Studio, this would give the army credability with a selection of gamers who are vocally against non-GW army books, and would also increase the number of Chaos Dwarf players, and as a result, your sales.

So there’s a starter. Please post any ideas below, and I will try and work up some wording for a Forge World interegation…

Thommy H:

They won’t answer any of those questions. For one thing, the whole Warhammer Forge project is shelved at the moment and FW are concentrating entirely on the Heresy stuff because that’s what sells. So any questions about future models or rules for Chaos Dwarfs are going to be moot.

AndyG:

Hmm, Maybe. While I respect the attention being given to HH. I feel I may be able to get some answers. My aim is to see IG weapon options being produced. I will just see how I go. If I get to speak to the right people, its amazing what a firm handshake, well worded questions and a good ammount of respect can achieve.

Thommy H:

Something to bear in mind is that a number of options in the LoA list were to accommodate players with old Chaos Dwarf models (i.e. us lot). So they included rules for blunderbusses, but they almost certainly never had any intention of making any. I think great weapons fall into this category too - the classic Chaos Dwarf Warriors were armed that way, so leaving them out (which, IIRC, the experimental Infernal Guard rules did) would just alienate all the people with an existing army, who were probably going to account for most of the initial sales of Tamurkhan.

Admiral:

My usual advice: Rest and wait a few years. Let FW know you want more CD stuff whenever you order from them, and wait for market logic to kick in once the Horus Heresy goldrush is over.

In the meanwhile, buy Titan Wargame and Russian Alternative stuff for that which is amiss in FW’s range.

Billy Ocean:

Agreed. Weapons options for IG are my least concern. The titan wargames GW dwarfs look fantastic alongside the forge world IG, very similar style, and Russian Alternative blunderbuses are nice, although stylistically a bit different.

All I’d want to for is a very simple rules update aimed at making the army more playable and bringing it more in line with current 8th ed releases. E.g. Iron Demon should have a grind attack rather than thunderstomp, demonsmiths should be able to take lore of hashut, shields should be optional upgrade rather than stock (so you can choose to go without them on your GW unit). Etc.

As a side note, I would disagree that the community as a whole finds LoA overpowered. Maybe thats true of inexperienced players, but I’m yet to find a serious tournament player who is worried by LoA. And if you look at GT results, LoA are normally found around the middle of the pack. I therefore wouldn’t say this to FW, on the off chance they actually listen and nerf us in any potential update!

Grimstonefire:

I’d like to know if/when the destroyer will ever be coming out.

Also if they are planning any dark mechanicus stuff and when it will be released/ what troop types etc.

TheFNG:

I would like to know if they will be updating the FAQ. I’d like to avoid any Iron Daemon movement debates in the future.

Yes. This.

Surely this is "low hanging fruit" in terms of effort required...

I agree, would be nice to get an update on this

Kera foehunter:

ask them for me … can they make affordable models. since they are no longer metal … just crappy byproduct of melted CANDELS

THANK YOU ANDY

Grimstonefire:

Can you also ask when they are going to release some HH Thousand sons.

Grimstonefire
+1 for this. And as a part 2 to this question how about asking when they'll do the Prospero book to go with them?

Haha, I <3 Kera.

Grimstonefire:

Got to laugh, looks like the destroyer wasn’t on display for a change.

I was going to ask if it was up this time or not and if any work had been done on it. Interesting but I know how hard it is when you have a small staff and a lot of different projects.

cornixt:

After the ripping it got here, maybe they are rethinking the model a bit.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I’ve never seen a post from a Forgeworld employee on this site. I think it’s a heady proposition to assume they are here listening to our feedback/whining.

Is it not entirely possible that they have an intern looking at Forge World Chaos Dwarf related posts? I'm guessing that a large number of their buyers for the chaos dwarf models are on this site..

cornixt:

Officially, they aren’t allowed to be active members of forums, but even they themselves haven’t visited here they have probably heard about it from other people simply due to it being so overwhelmingly negative. I’m sure this isn’t the only place either. I think that some of the criticism is over the top, but it certainly isn’t something I would buy without major changes.
