[Archive] Warhammer Forge Hobgoblin Wolf Rider rumour (Warseer)

JMR:

This rumour has been buzzing about for a bit now, but I just wanted to point out that the rumour that Forge World is going to make Hobgoblin wolf riders using the new plastic (Space Wolf) wolves has popped up on Warseer, and appears to be pretty much confirmed by Harry:

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?334437-Hobgoblins-and-Dogs-of-War

Don’t think it has been mentioned here on CDO before.

JonJon:

thanks for the rumour hope its true

aka_mythos:

This rumor sprung up several months ago after Gamesday where it was said that for WF was going to hold off on the Hobgoblin wolf riders until a plastic wolf that was being worked on by Games Workshop was complete. These are without a doubt those wolves

Grimstonefire:

It’s going to be interesting getting a stormvermin on there, as that’s what my HG are based on.

A picture for the lazy:

Not a bad price either (£15 for 5)

Thommy H:

They have conspicuous flat areas on their backs - clearly designed for saddles, I’d say. I’d be extremely surprised if these aren’t intended to be the basis for all wolves across the 40K and Fantasy ranges - not that there are that many or anything, but why not use these for a new Goblin Wolf Rider kit? And why make them so generic if the intention isn’t to do something like that?

Honestly, I want to get about three packs of these - some for Hobgoblin conversions, and some as Chaos Hounds for my WoC because it fits with the barbarian theme I have going for some elements of the army. One of these days, GW is going to stop having to release something I want every single month.

Shimsham:

I just noticed that the price for 5 unmounted wolves in Australian dollars is $41… Yeah, I’ll stick with the old wolves methinks at that price. You couldn’t build a horde cheaply for that!

cornixt:

I like the poses, but the fur looks a bit weird. Maybe a bit too stylised, the fur is in lots of triangular lumps rather than flowing freely.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Compared to their old wolves, these guys are rockstars! Love them!!

Singleton Mosby:

I like them altough the fur indeed looks a bit werid. Since I do not have any wolves nor riders I might want to wait until these become available and get hold of some for my Hobgoblins.

Coopervisor:

Certainly hoping they do produce some as the new wolves would be ideal. I’d have a go at converting my own, but I think I’ll just wait to see what FW do.

Vogon:

I think these wolves look great and just the thing for putting riders on, and as Tommy H says there’s a nice flat bit that looks designed for a saddle

I just got some storm vermin and some goblin heads ready to convert my first unit of Hobgoblins, I guess I’ll see if I can divert 5 and fit them on the backs of these guys

Cheers

Could you explain why you use Stormvermin as a basis for Hobgoblins?

P.S. I contacted Forge World about the possibility of making Hobgoblin Wolf riders using the new wolves and this is their response

Thanks for your e-mail. We are currently working on additions to the Chaos Dwarfs range, and we?Tre currently lining up our design priorities. Watch this space is all we can say at the moment.

Bitterman:

I was interested to hear this rumour, as one of the Forge World sculptors is a close friend and regular gaming opponent, and I’d mentioned to him I intended to convert some Hobgob Raiders using these Wolves… I’d have expected him to say something if they were planning on releasing them from FW/WF.

But, he works on 40K stuff so maybe he’s not heard of them… or maybe he didn’t make the connection when I said it… or maybe he didn’t want to say… meh, I dunno. So I’m certainly not saying it’s not true, and I’d really like it to be, and that “watch this space” in the email quoted above suggests it might well be… it just surprises me, is all.

Not really my style but thanks for sharing. I'll go with the common goblin->hobgoblin conversion. And please pardon me for Hijacking this thread. :)

Back to the wolves, are they available already?

Time of Madness:

Love the new wolves! The old ones had to be some of the oldest models in GW current range.

Can’t wait to see how many people start ripping their current hobgoblins off wolves to put them on the new ones.
