This week it’s the Merwyrm. You’ve no idea how disappointed I was when it wasn’t the Taur’ruk
Hi there, This week we bring you an ancient monster of the deeps, rarely spoken of save in the tales of embittered sailors who have lost their ships on the high seas of the Warhammer world to one of these terrifying beasts, the Merwyrm. We also have some news about our attendance at Origins in Ohio and reservation orders for Games Day North America.
Merwyrm
The seas of the Old World are home to many dark horrors, not least of which are the dreaded Merwyrms. These ancient creatures stalk the depths of the ocean in search of prey, propelled at great speed by their long tail and sinuous body.
Dry land is no sanctuary against these voracious monsters however, and when food is scarce they have been known to assault coastal villages, devouring their inhabitants and leaving little but a trail of devastation in their wake. Many armies in the Warhammer World, particularly the High Elves, have used binding scrolls to unleash the might of Merwyrms against their enemies.
The Merwyrm is depicted coiled around the wreck of a boat, whose hapless crew have done little to sate this vicious creature?Ts boundless hunger. The model measures approximately 155mm (6") long and 130mm (5") tall to the tip of its tail, and rules for these nightmares of the deep can be found in Monstrous Arcanum. The Merwyrm, designed by Trish Carden, is a multi-part resin kit that is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday June 28th.

Mmmm…between the gorgeous new model and the surprisingly good rules, this makes me want one! Guess I have to add a corsair-themed DE army to my list of future projects.
i’m abit disappointed to see this monster released i was hoping for maybe the BC hero or maybe the k’daii destroyer but no instead we get a mutant tadpole. oh well always next issue.
I love the Merwyrm. The sculpt is so full of character. It would go along splendidly with an Uzkulak themed CD army. And I don’t want to see the Destroyer. I genuinely hope that something happens to the mold or to the original sculpt. Something bad like being swallowed by a bear or melted in acid by angry gangsta CD fans.
Also, this model is actually well painted (which is something seldom done by Forgeworld).
I’ve just sat down with a coffee and am reviewing the rules for the Merwyrm and am a little confused.
There are three types similar in stats to the sun, moon and star dragons from the High Elf book Merwyrm, Pagowyrm and Sciowyrm respectively. Under special rules it is split into (ALL), (MERWYRM), (PAGOWYRM) and (SCIOWYRM). Under (ALL) it lists Enfeebling Cold and Abyssal Cloak yet under (PAGOWYRM) it lists Enfeebling Cold only (nothing else) and under (SCIOWYRM) it lists just Abyssal Cloak.
The descriptions for these special rules name the pagowyrm and sciowyrm specifically but with them being listed for all types I’m unsure.
I’m pretty sure that the intention was to have these special rules just for the named types but that’s not how the entry is written.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you that the rules have some...interesting quirks in the way they were written. It seems like the intention was for each size to get it's own unique special rule, but the way it's written wouldn't support that RAW. Probably should get an FAQ/Errata.
The list of special rules for all of the Merwyrm types included Enfeebling Cold and Abyssal Cloak by mistake and these two special rules are only used by the Merwyrm type listed in the explanation of those rules.
