I’ve put my limited release WQ bighats on eBay. I’d obviously be happier if they went to someone on here rather than a reseller, so please bid if you’re interested
Can’t comment on the Warhammer Quest aspect, but these models were available through special order bitz for a long time, at least in the USA. I bought a dozen of them, clean mint metal very nice castings, that way.
Don’t know if you want to change your commentary at all.
Hi all,

They went to mail order after Warhammer Quest went the way of all non-mainstreal GW products. There was a Chaos Dwarf expansion planned and these were two of the models that were supposed to be part of it, along with the Furnace of Hashut (made by the same artist that did all the other WQ tiles) tile that was recycled into a Dwarf vs. CD scenario in White Dwarf ages ago now.
So the WQ reference isn’t inaccurate. These are still rather harder to come by than regular metal CDs, that’s for sure.
Since Nicodemus clarified the WQ connection, I’ll discuss me describing them as “Limited Release”. They were never released in the UK, and so (having listed them on the UK site) I don’t believe I’m inaccurate in referring to them as being limited release. They are certainly not as common as other chaos dwarfs, your own nice collection of them notwithstanding. It’s possible they never even appeared in White Dwarf.
I can’t access eBay at the moment, so I don’t remember what I wrote there, but I believe I said they were only available from US mail order. I can’t remember if I hazarded a guess at how long though I wouldn’t be surprised if I said “a short while” when in fact that time might have been several years. The lens of time and all that…

i don't want to hijack this thread, but what is this furnace of hashut you're talking about? never heard of it, do any models or prototypes exist? is there a picture somewhere?

If I recall correctly it was a cardboard insert in WD around issue 200.
