[Archive] Warhammer Quest - Silver Tower, May 21!

Hunter:

Looks amazing from what I can see so far, but for that kind of money I think I’d rather scour eBay for the old edition.

BABIS:

it looks promising!

The ogre Mage, sorry, Ogroid Thaumaturge, looks like it’d make a good CD Daemon Prince if it was given a beard.

Actually, yes. Perhaps with a larger beak of a nose as well. It wouldn't be far off from a Lammasu look with a beard.

Nice minis.

The Gaunt Summoner looks to have been influenced by one of Guillermo Del Toro's creations:

cornixt:

More of a minotaur than an ogre.

The volume of material is promising, but the price is still too high for casual buyers. Just not enough in the box for that, I can get so much more for the same cost in Imperial Assault and that is a licensed IP.

Hunter:

I’m not a huge fan of GW’s current art direction. I haven’t liked anything I’ve seen in the AoS setting up until now (purely a matter of personal taste), but these models are absolutely gorgeous.

I’ll probably hold out for Massive Darkness instead because I prefer “classic” fantasy, but those are some damn fine sculpts nonetheless.

Nicodemus:

News today is that there’s an app coming out that you pay for, that allows you to pay for the rules for other Hero models sold by GW that aren’t in the game box.

Holy naked money grab.  I think it’s going to only take a few weeks for everyone to organize themselves and have people go into a group buy on a whole range of different things, each person only paying for one, then everyone taking screen captures and sharing the info around so that it can be printed out into hard copy.  Sounds like there’s also pay access to better weapons/items as well, similar to the way online MMOs have been going.  In accurate, this sounds pretty shameless. :s

Thommy H:

I heard another rumour that they’re going to start charging for 40K codexes too…

In all seriousness, no one knows exactly how all this will work yet. Maybe the app will be the only way to get these rules (which, remember, aren’t ‘the’ rules for those models - they were designed for Age of Sigmar) or maybe they’ll sell them in a printed supplement, or print them in White Dwarf over a period of weeks.

Basically, people are getting angry over a tiny sliver of information. I know it’s the internet, but come on.

I get the humor. I think you're off base with your remarks however. Read the text in the photo from White Dwarf above. It's not rumor. The text says that the "My Hero" can be purchased, and that additional skills for your characters can be purchased. it all sounds pretty clear to me and I don't think I was getting angry over a sliver of information. Just stating facts. You can read them yourself if you care to.

Thommy H:

Yeah, I’ve read them - you can buy stuff through the AoS app too, but there’s no exclusive content: everything is also available in print. There’s no reason to think this will be different.

Oh, and I wasn’t directing the ‘angry’ comment at you, Nico! Warseer and Dakka are full of much less magnanimous comments…

Skink:

…You guys think that a “Zharr Goroth Daemosmith/Castellan” will be featured as well? That would be so cool :). Can’t wait to see what the Lizardman Oldblood/Sunblood will be able to do as well.

Thommy H:

I think GW will only do rules for the plastic characters - however, I have a feeling someone around here will be willing to fill in a few of the gaps…

Firehammer:

So you can pay for rules for three more Space Marines and two more Chaos Barbarians. What next? Rules for 3 more female Aelf sorcerers, three more Fyreslayers and three more human priests? So exciting :~

TheHoodedMan:

It is not only the rules, it is also a tool to keep your bookkeeping for the characters (probably you can get items, additional skills, money and so on, like in some dungeon crawlers - Descent or Arcadia Quest for example).

I don`t think this is really necessary if you own pen and paper but maybe the Smombie generation is lacking these useful things.

Dînadan:

More leaked pics, including a look at some of the character profiles:

Thommy H:

There are higher quality English versions of those on War of Sigmar now.

New Warhammer Quest - Shadows Over Hammerhal, out next week.

So I guess this is the Nurgle box, I much prefer it to the Tzeentch box. Not a big fan of the tile art though, looks like cheap cgi. And the price is still insanely high, you get so much more in other dungeon crawlers for that money - GW should be aiming at $100 to get people into their games, not just catering to the quality game market. The success of Blood Bowl must have proved this to them already.

Forgefire:

I havent played the old hero quest, but i got to play Silver Tower this entire weekend and it was a blast i must say  Even though we only managed to clear 2 trials and then we got wiped out
