Would the Iron Daemon tactic be to try to shoot him a couple of times and then hit him with the Daemon?
He'll find it very difficult to hurt the Daemon but with T8 & 8 wounds he'll be hitting on 3s but wounding on 6s and I'd get a 6+ save on those wounds. I could further swing this in my favour using Ash Storm for the -1 to hit debuff. Using the Daemon to pin the White Lions in place I could then hit with Fireborn / Renders to swing things my way.
Cheers, Joe.

I always try to get some shots off with the ID, before getting in close combat. But it really depends on your list. If you bring Fireborn, you need it in CC as fast as possible. So they can work together. Fireborn don't leave time for shooting.
If you have a lot of warmachines, take your time.
The Iron Demon can not expect to survive the fight against that large unit of White Lions. But with 310p you lock down 800+ points. So i would dedicate the rest of my army to earn victory points on everything else he brings.
And sure, if you shoot up enough of the white lions before close combat - try and earn those 800 victory points.
I would not send the iron demon in alone, too risky against such a unit. The ID cannnonade really shines against monsters and calv against that big of a unit of white lions it would likely be a waste of a shot.
Charge in an iron daemon? Are you guys on smack??? :o
The ID won’t even get to attack as (not inc characters) 12 S6 attacks (hitting on a 3) come it’s way. No an ID is a very, very bad idea. (edit: thinking about it, it probably will, but it’s really not gonna do much damage in return. Plus if it’s hellbound (as mine always are) see the next paragraph…
Metal magic was mooted earlier. Right, Final Trans, brilliant spell, I think it’s the best #6 spell in the rulebook, but that’s only my opinion. Searing Doom, good, remember they get a bonus to their armour save against shooting attacks (which SD counts as) I think it’s +2, so you’re wounding on a 3+. Notice I said wounding not killing. For the same reason, the Enchanted Blades should NEVER be cast on a unit that is firing at a High Elf star. The reason? The Banner of the World Dragon. If it’s not on an 800 point unit your opponent really needs to have a word with himself. Just to remind you, the BOTWD give a 2+ ward against magical attacks. (though not inst-kills like Final Trans).
So, what can we do? Fire my friend, and keep on firing. I mean Dreadquakes, I mean Death Rockets, I mean Blunderbusses, bow, fireglaves and magma cannons. Hell even breath weapons. You need to shoot everything you have at them, just, for the love of Hashut DO NOT hellbind anything. AS I said earlier he gets a bonus against shooting, that’s why high strength (arty) many shots (bows and blunderbusses) and armour piercing (fireglaves) are all win.
Someone once told me that winning a wargame was a simple principle. Shoot the fighty stuff, and fight the shooty stuff. And they don’t come much fightier than White Lions. I have to say that this shooting only works if he’s not fielding Alariel in the unit.
So how do we make this extra time for shooting? Redirectors. This is why your hobgoblin khans gallop their wolf an inch away from the star at a funny angle. They get charges, die horribly and suddenly he lion unit either overruns away from your army, or reforms having moved 1" that turn. Do this until all 3 Khans are dead, then do it with the k’daai. Hopefully by that time you’ve blown apart the unit. Remember the k’daai doesn’t have magical attacks so he is great.
Honestly, with that number of points in 1 unit, you are really gonna have to go some to kill it!
On the ID it fights in combat with 3 crew attacks and then thunder stomps. Stomp attacks from it are not magical in the same way Thunder stomps from a destroyer are not flaming.
Forge World in there infinity wisdom ruled in the FAQ that ALL attacks from the iron demon or skullcracker count as magical. Since the crew are not from it they are some how and funnily enough not magical.
Fireborn would get beat up and then some by white lions.

He is referring to the burning bright rule, a 50/50 shot that unit suffers wounds without saves which can be made worse if your opponent has a spell that reduces toughness i.e. withering, soul blight, and so on.

Also the fact that the white lions will swing first, hit on 3's and wound on 2's.
Between that and the burning bright you will be lucky if you have 2 models left on the next round. Unless you take a unit of like 9 or 12. Which is just stupidly high points cost for what you get.
Destroyer works pretty well. I like to soften them up with a good magma cannon hit to knock off around 10. More is better if possible. Destroyer can usually crash through them, using khans and archers to keep away enemy chaff. You will need bull centaurs or a taur’ruk to keep away the phoenix, or lucky rockets.
As white lions inevitably have the banner of the world dragon, iron daemon which is usually hellbound is no help due to its magical nature, and the chaos dwarf lore allows for ward saves with its spells. The destroyer meanwhile, is not magical…
Yeah, the destroyer is a bit of a crutch unit, and can be douchey depending on the opponent, but you are fighting elves! They deserve no pulled punches. Or any newer book for that matter (dwarfs…)
On average, Burning Bright costs the Fireborn one model by the end of turn four. Assume worst case that this is turn two:
28 Lions, FC, World Dragon (typical set-up)
8 Fireborn (down to seven from Burning Bright say)
These units both cost 440 points. Blazing Body alone kills just under six models per turn. Lions put about 5 wounds on first turn but after Fireborn attacks, Stomps and more Blazing Body, Lions are down to about 9 models before their second round of attacks.
The HE player can try Withering but the CD player has dice and a scroll. He can cast spells at the Lions too.
