zobo1942:
Hello,
I recently purchased a large lot of random miniatures - there are lots of orks, empire, wood elves, beastmen, some chaos, and skaven.
A LOT of skaven - probably 150 miniatures, but I am not a big fan of the sculpts. I can use the parts of the screaming bell for something, but I am stuck on what to do with the rest of them.
Anyone have any idea how to convert skaven miniatures into anything less… Well, ''skaven-ish"?
Grimbold Blackhammer:
Plague Monk bodies with Goblin heads make great Hobgoblins!

I’ve seen the storm vermin conversions, and they are great, but I have not seen a plague monk conversion before. I guess I just need to find about 20 goblin heads…

I’ve got a bunch of skavens lying around, and I’m planning to just make skaven slaves for my CD army, using Hobgob rules. Fluff-wise, CDs will enslave anything, no?
Bloodbeard:
Plaguemonks bodies are really great for a 4th edition hobgoblin feel. Very neat. Storm Vermin are great as well - for a more armored elite look.
The monopose skaven slaves/warriors are fine as well. Seen some conversions around here. Head chop and adding goblin/gnoblar heads added.
Very easy way to get some hobgoblin slaves done for you army.
I have some weapon teams planned as well. The plague globe mortar and warpfirethrower. Want to convert some 3rd edition style weapon teams from them. Easy enough, bit of green stuff and some chaos warrior heads. Will look to besides old mortar, swivel gun and bazooka.
Are you into Frostgrave? Great game. Have an expansion coming this summer with gnolls in it. If nothing else you could easily use skaven as gnolls or sell them off to Frostgravers.

Neat ideas! I am planning in using these miniatures to try to get my kids interested in a ‘family game night’, instead of everyone just running off to stare at different screens. I think it will be fun.
I am planning on using the ‘Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish’ rules, and maybe some of my old D&D stuff to get things happening - plus, I’ll have to make a lot of terrain, which I enjoy doing as well.

How old are your kids? I have four kids and have been playing games with the oldest since they were 7 and 8 years old.
Started out with Heroquest (now playing Dungeon Saga insted - great with a game master).
But we've been doing a lot of One Page Rules games. Do you know them? Stuff is great. 1 A4 oage if rules for pretty much any game system out there.
We been playing warstuff, one page skirmish, orions gate and army en combat.
Warstuff in particular is awesome. Simply rules for playing war games with anything in the kidsroom. We had t-rex, cowboy, tank batallions fighting against Empire armies led by Elsa and Anna.
For your kids I guess there's not even a language barrier.
