Dînadan:
Personally I think the GW ones are the best for Warhammer hobgoblins. If you want D&D style hobgoblins then the LotR Moranon Orcs are best. Ultimately it depends on what you like and what look you’re going for.
Nicodemus:
The older Citadel Hobgoblins are pretty good, but they’re getting pricier on eBay.
Abecedar:
That’s a hard question without knowing your preferences (and budget). I personally like the original 3rd Ed and 4th Ed citadel ranges. But there are many others out there now. Have a real good look through the army blogs and showcase sections and you’ll see what people do with some of those newer plastics

I want realism over caricature and exaggerated cartoony faces. I have some of the old ones for posterity but I'm going for Hobbit Orcs too.

well i think thats unanimous, thanks guys, what about a khan on a wolf, would the hunter orc on warg fit the bill, keeping in mind im not a fan of the comical gw goblin look and prefer more realism(if there is such a thing)
Doombeard:
The sculpts are more goblin-ey yes, but Heresy Gobbos are metal and hella expensive. £35 for 16 is pretty pricey. I agree they do look nice. I went for Hunter Orcs over 3rd party stuff to keep it all GW and all plastic. I agree those Heresy Goblins are super nice and I’d be proud to own a set. If I went non-gw I probably would’ve gone Mantic simply for the price.
If you are using Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs there are some named characters available which come on foot and mounted versions, but very expensive. Easier to get the x6 H.orc on F.wargs boxset and use them as a unit or seperate Khans. And also the Marauder Warg is an awesome mini but will cost you about £30 as its OOP
Firehammer:
I have found these cc hobgoblins by Battle Forge that I like, close in appearance to the original but less comical:

Russian Alternative makes these, but I don’t like them as much as their Chaos Dwarfs:
For mounted Hobgoblins, I take the old Oglah Khan Hobgoblins, just with the new Space Wolf small wolves:
Also keep an eye on Voodooworx Miniatures, when they will finally open their business:
There are plans by forum members to cast Hobgoblin heads (or even more):
