My earliest models are the pre slotta Mengil Manhide’s man flayer dark elves which I was given by a mate when I first started WFB.
The first models I bought myself were some titans (Warhounds and Reaver)which I still have. They’ve been painted and repainted many times in a variety of guises and I doubt I’ll ever part with them.
I had some old Runequest figures, but I sold them recently. Plus a bunch of Lizardmen too.
I had this one pre slotta figure of a cloaked and hooded man wielding a dagger, one foot forward, but I was never able to track down what the figure was…
While strictly not games workshoI somewhere have a full set of the archive miniatures set that was the ‘proxy’ set for The Lord of the rings fellowship from 1972. They were made listed as the ranger, the grey wizard, the elf prince, the city captain, the dwarf warrior, but I’m not sure what merry pippin frodo and Sam were called. From my understanding Iron Crown Entertainment had the licence for lord of the rings so Archive couldn’t release them as an official fellowship miniatures range.
Here are my oldest minis. I actually purchased these myself back in the 1980s from a local game shop, and that is my painting efforts, using enamel paints.

I've got models who are as old as I am, I believe I even have some models that are older then me.
Hmm, I have most of Ally Morrison’s Hobgoblins from 1983, as well as the complete Citadel Dungeon Starter Set, first advertised in 1982, but I don’t think it was released until 1983.
I have models I believe are older, but I’ve been unable to identify them for a few years now and are probably Grenadier, Ral Partha and Citadel mixed.
Thanks to a cheap auction I’ve got a pre-slotta Chaos Warrior, with chainmail and mace, which might date back to 1984. It’s older than I am. Can anyone who knows his Solegends help me identify it with a link? I did it once before during the auction, but now I can’t retrieve the auction data from the site or E-mail, and a quick search on Solegends doesn’t make it show up.
Otherwise it’s mostly 4th-5th edition WHFB miniatures hauled in from E-bay and stores besides the core collection of miniatures which started in 6th edition with Thorgrim and Dwarfs.
Seems like Kera is nicely out in front! Yikes. Thinking about who would have really old minis, I don’t even know what the market would have been for fantasy minis prior to the mid 70s. I know historical minis have been around for centuries, but the high end stuff was pretty rare. I remember Peter Cushing (the actor) saying he had a toy soldier collection that he painted as his hobby.
pretty sure I’m not in the running. Have a Bryan Ansells Hobgoblin Champion and the Ogre Champion. Ally M’s DL2’s and a couple from the Citadel Dungeon Starter Set as well. I think they’d be the oldest GW figures. For the GW Mags I think No 143 and I know I’ve got the first 4 Grombrindal’s.
