[Archive] Xander's Tri-Barrelled Hellfire Cannon [Caution: 34 pictures!]

Xander:

Initially being inspired by this thread, I set about building this:

The “Tri-barrel Hellfire Cannon” from Warhammer: Age of Reckoning!

So here are 34 WIP pics. If you have any questions, just ask!

Thanks to everyone for the best Golden Hat ever! Does any one have any ideas how I should do the random draw for the remaining prizes?

Xander this was one of my top favorite entries. I wonder if the round-end GS beveled textures you used were inspired by Ishkur’s shaker. I wonder because it inspired me to do the same thing for my scratchbuild hellcannon in progress. But I am very inspired to make my own one of these tri-hellblasters myself. It’s a bute. (any idea what their called in that game?)

but… but but…BUT. … I think you’re trying to take all the credit. When it obvious to us that you benefited greatly from the master engineering & construction expertise of an experienced Heroquest Fimir.

We can all see through your ruse. He’s right there lurking in those shadows supervising and micromanaging your every move.

It’s ok. You DID do good… for your share of the job that is.

p.s. if ya couldn’t tell, HQ Fimir cameos FTW!

Grimstonefire:

Forgot to say at the time Xander, but I like the chaotic shapes and textures you made. Making even formal shapes fit better with the Hellcannon.

You forgot the chaos stars on the wheels though :stuck_out_tongue:

AllEvil:

Stunning reproduction of an awesome War Machine.

jolpis:

awsome work, the tube going from the barrel really gives the machine an organic look

Dino:

Great work man. What exactly did you use to build this beast?

Ishkur Cinderhat:

I see somebody has fallen in love with mould making and casting here! These are some very impressive WIP shots. How long did it take you all in all? Did you have any other pictures of the tri-barreled cannon for reference? Do you employ telescopic arms to use your computer? ^^

Tarrakk Blackhand:

This is Kool! I like to see the WIP pictures, especially because you can see details that are normally hidden in the final painted pictures, as well as seeing the steps to get from the begining to the end.

I’m curious about the wheels. Are they really from 2 or 3 Hellcannons, or did you reproduce them perfectly in sheet styrene?

They're resin casts of Hellcannon parts. Though he did use the Hellcannon ratchety bitz as a template for his own (from what I can tell from the pictures).

looks great Xander! someone was BUSY! I liked looking at the pics in reverse… made it seem like you were taking it apart. lol

what are the textures on the barrels? are they just supposed to be ‘rough’ or is it a pattern? I can’t quite make it out. In any case, it looks phenomenal, really pleased I voted for this one!

Kera foehunter:

Xander we need to chip in and get you a x-actor knife .That dollar store knife going to make you lose a finger!!

How did you do the wheels are they made in layers?

i think you did great cool idea too

In the game a regular Hellcannon is called a Hellfire Cannon. The tri-barrelled version is called a Tri-Barrelled Hellfire Cannon.

HeroQuest rules.

I mostly just copied the textures and shapes from the existing model. I didn’t want to add the Chaos Stars, hehe.

Ya, that’s one of my favourite parts of the model. In the game it animates like a cartoon hose, it’s pretty cool.
Great work man. What exactly did you use to build this beast?

Dino
Thanks. I used Plasticard from GaleForce9, Green Stuff and Brown Stuff from GaleForce9, RTV Silicone Mold Rubber and RTV Resin from Smooth On, chain from Dollarama, and Hellcannon master parts.

I have several molds now, yes. It took me two weeks of conversion work and two weeks of painting and final modeling for the chains and base, etc.

I have the game, and I was able to go into the game and stand in the middle of the War Machine to examine it from every angle. Hehe. Often times I would have the game running in front of me while I was modeling it.

Indeed. Yes, I only made a mold of the wheels, and a very imprecise mold at that, hehe.

They are supposed to be daemonic faces, but they aren’t very detailed anyway. Thanks for your vote!

I love my Dollarama Exacto knife! I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

See above for the wheel question. Thanks!

Thanks for all the comments! I even forced myself to learn how to use Photoshop macros to save all these pictures at 700px wide, haha. Thanks for all your votes! I was surprised and happy to come out with a second place finish amongst all the amazing entries!

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull:

That is one amazing warmachine you have build there.

Xander
I vote also that you get an x-acto knife. Your cut knife has a place and purpose (mainly to open boxes and cut plastic card or other strait line projects) but the pressure you have to put on that blade to cut anything is going to get you the loss of a finger. Will it really take that to get you to change your mind?

I certainly hope not.

I loved your tri-barrel, it was one of the one I voted for in both the first seperation and the 2nd seperation.. Well done.

Bah, scalpels are for doctors and medics, not for us armourers and ironsmiths. :) Besides, everyone knows that Xander makes heavy use of bionically augmented hands and fingers!

wallacer:

That really is a spectacular (and complicated) conversion.

You did a great job of making it look like the one from the game (which I only found out about just now ;))

Giving this a little bump.

I’m curious if anyone has ever seen any other conversion for this model. I feel like I’ve never seen another one.

In fact, I can barely find anything about this war machine online at all!

I had to dig out the screenshots of this thing from the old forum’s attachments!
