Army list and advice

Hello dear followers of Hashut!
Chaos Dwarfs were my first army back in the 90s, but I was poor and had a poor buying choice. I am not richer now, but with all these 3D printed minis, I am about to take the step and buy some basic units from Etsy.
I found a profile called “PrincipeNero”, which has positive reviews and answered my questions right away. They base their designs on Fabelzel ones (which I find delightful and old school), but they actually expanded the range of designs in what seems top quality and with care. Do you guys have experience with those miniatures? I was also interested in Alchemy Models, but they just closed shop today!
For now I will buy “half an army” (2000 pts), with the next army list in mind. I almost never played before, so any tips and suggestions are welcome!
There is still some room for more units, although I didn’t count any magic items for now.

Chaos Dwarfs [1584 pts]
Warhammer: The Old World, Chaos Dwarfs, Open War

-Sorcerer-Prophet, Darkforged w, Level 4 Wizard, General, Great Taurus, Daemonology - 355
-Hobgoblin Khan, Light armour, Shield, Giant Wolf - 60

-10 Infernal Guard, Fireglaives, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Deathmask (champion) [Pistol], Full Command - 201
5 Infernal Guard, Hailshot blunderbuss, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Detachment - 95
5 Infernal Guard, Hailshot blunderbuss, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Detachment - 95
-20 Hobgoblin Cutthroats, Full Command - 97 (hand weapon+shield)
-10 Hobgoblin archer Cutthroats, Full Command - 57 (shortbows)
-10 Hobgoblin archer Cutthroats, Full Command - 57 (shortbows)

-10 Sneaky Gits, Murder Boss (champion), Musician - 82
-Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower - 45
-Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower - 45

-10 Hobgoblin Wolf Riders, Cav. Spear and shield, Shortbow, Feigned Flight, Reserve Move, Full Command - 180
-Dreadquake Mortar, Ogre Loader, Hellbound - 215

This would amount to roughly 1600 pts, so it needs some more units. My first thought would be a 20x Infernal Ironsworn with hand w+shield, a big chunky unit with ensorcelled weapons. Also thematically I like black orks and the warboss, that would be a nice addition too. Or maybe some BC renders with a Tau’ruk, but I am still unsure about which scale I should take for them, as I already have a couple of old GW BC. I am excited about the Iron Daemon, too.

My strategy would be, harass and distract with the hobgobs archers and wolf riders, engage a dangerous unit with the hobgob warriors to stale them (or try to get a flanking movement), while the fireglaives/blunderbuss try to get some shots out and the artillery hunt for dangerous foes. The Sneaky Gitz would be ambushing the enemy’s war machines or archers, and the wolves could also flank an engaged enemy. I don’t know the other armies so I might be lacking some essential knowledge for this strategy to succeed.

I will also share my painting progress once I have time for it.
What do you guys think? Would you be so kind to help out a Dawi-Zharr brother?

Long live Hashut!!

So, I thought I might make an update on my Chaos Dwarfs army.
I found many of the minis I had from the 90s (although some parts are still missing), a couple of boxes of warriors, the khan, astragoth, a couple of bull centaurs, a hero, and the earthquake mortar. Also, the Great Taurus, but the head and hero are missing (for now). I’m thinking about BMM as they seem to have fidelity reproductions of the OG minis.
Some other printed miniatures are on the way: I could make a deal for a Lammasu hero, Tauru’k and some BC, some black orks and a Black Ork Warboss on boar, from Alchemist Models (which they just recently stopped selling printed minis. The guy still have some spare but are likely to be gone soon. I contacted via IG). These are the 10mm Forest Dragon’s design, scaled to 28mm heroic. On the pictures, they look pretty good.
I also purchased some fireglaives, hobgob archers, sneaky gits and bolt throwers from PrincipeNero on Etsy, who uses the Fabelzel design and creates some new models with the same style.
This is my progress so far with the warriors, I had to repaint the first ones many times because I wasn’t sure of the scheme. I decided to go for the black and red OG design, with some gold here and there. They are not finished, I just tried to put colour on them (my paints are also old and bubbly). But instead of painting them all the same, I tried some variations on the hats (HATS!!!) and shoulder pads. I want to also try some non-metal colours for the weapons and gold parts.
I’m surprised with how well sculpted these minis are, albeit simple. The paint flows swiftly where it has to go.

a bad picture of my warriors. I like the subtle variation on the hats (HATS!!!) scheme.

the unfinished state of the armour. I tried some wet blending, need to improve.

what I’m aiming for with the weapons, from this video

And I also managed to put down this list, which is exactly 2k points:

  • Sorcerer-Prophet, Darkforged weapon, Wizard [Level 4 Wizard], General, Lammasu [Sorcerous Exhalation], Mantle of Stone, The Mask of the Furnace, Daemonology - 415
  • Hobgoblin Khan, Light armour, Shield, Giant Wolf, Ruby Ring of Ruin - 95
  • 18 Infernal Guard, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Deathmask (champion) [Pistol], Standard bearer [Overseer’s Sigil], Full Command - 298
  • 10 Infernal Guard, Hailshot blunderbuss, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Detachment - 190
  • 20 Infernal Guard, Fireglaives, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Deathmask (champion) [Pistol], Full Command - 381
  • 10 Hobgoblin Cutthroats archers, Full Command - 47
  • 10 Hobgoblin Cutthroats archers, Full Command - 47
  • 10 Sneaky Gits, Murder Boss (champion), Musician - 72
  • Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower - 45
  • Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower - 45
  • 10 Hobgoblin Wolf Riders, Shortbow, Feigned Flight (0-1 per 1000 points), Reserve Move (0-1 per 1000 points), Full Command - 180
  • Dreadquake Mortar, Ogre Loader - 185

This list relies heavily on Iron Guard units (because Chorfs). I have played only a few games ever, with other armies (and lost most of the times), so I am not sure if this is a usable list. I want to try it as soon as I have all the minis.
Do you have any suggestions, dear brethren?

Hey mate, quite a few thought here:

  • on the SP, drop Mask of the Furnace and go for Armor of Meteoric Iron and Talisman of Protection instead; basically same points but way more survivable
  • Your Khan needs a GW or a Spear in case he needs to charge
  • Your block of 18 IG need great weapons as an option. I don’t think you have enough points in Hobgobs for the overseer standard to be worth it, just put a war banner on both units.
  • I think a block of 20 IG with boundebusses is the way to go rather than fireglaives. But fireglaives are good detachments because their counter charge gets them S5 attacks. Basically consider swapping the Fireglaives for Blunderbusses and vice versa. If you go for the Blunderbuss block, take the Razor Standard.
  • Blackshard armour is less relevant post-FAQ because fireball and pillar of fire wont be used as much so consider removing it to save points.
  • don’t put standards on your small 10 unit of hobgobs since the enemy can easily kill them and get extra VP. If you want a banner, go for a single unit of 20+
  • Can you squeeze a BSB with lammasu’s beard in there? You have slow moving infantry blocks who will benefit from a shooting ward save and Magic Resistance and rerolling break and panic tests.
  • For you Wolf Riders, if it’s just for a Ruby Ring bunker, you can drop down to 5 and remove the banner and feigned flight (reserve move is the key).

Hey, many thanks for your insights!

  • You’re right, I kept the overseer sb because I had a previous list with some more hobgobs, but with this list isn’t that necessary.
  • I put the command because I have the minis, and the units look cooler with them, but I guess I can ditch them rules-wise.
  • I will try to swap between fg and bb as you said. Again, as I’m not very familiar with the game itself, I might be not considering many factors. That’s why I’m here!

I’m sure with some of those changes I can put the lammasu’s beard and enhance the khan. I will also re-read the wolf riders rules.
Thank you!
