Chaos Dwarfs Blood Bowl Blog

I was thinking of putting this in with my Grim Dark Chaos Dwarf blog however these will neither be Grim nor Dark. So thought it best to start a new blog and separate them out.

I’m not sure where I posted this but to those who read it you may know I had my motivation bubble popped when the new BB team was released, having got them and put them together I found the quality of the plastics quite disappointing, not used to saying that for new GW stuff but picking up the Gnome team as well I’m thinking the Specialist Design Studio do not have access to the same plastics as AoS. Which is very disappointing as I think they have equal if not superior sculpts for a lot of their stuff.

Any how, with the latest announcement I’m wanting to give it another go and try and get some cool painted Chaos Dwarfs ready for the AoS gang.

Not wanting to jump right in I thought I’d ease myself in with the bases.

First group done, so much fun to paint as it’s just dry brushing and very wet line work so all just relaxing, preparing for the minis on top after all these bases are done. Maybe I’ll start with a hobbo this time.

For anyone interested these bases are fantastic and there are some free samples of you want to try some out…

I like those, I can imagine it would be easy to diy. But anyway, do you know where could I find those already printed? I don’t own a 3d printer.
BTW, how did you paint them for the glowing effect?

Here’s what I’ve trying to go for (tow though). I just painted the lava underneath and then applied some Mordant Earth. I’m still unsure though, bc I won’t be doing the under-light and everything might be looking too red.

Cheers @Joange

Apologies I’m not sure where to get them printed, I’m lucky enough to have a talented friend who prints them for me.

Those bases look great, as you said though may need a fair bit of glow effect so something like the stone bases would at least give you less to do which would make it easier. A mostly black base would also help that red Chaos Dwarf stand out on top. Sometimes less is more :man_shrugging:t2:

For that glow effect, I’m just using what I’ve got but the easiest way would be to use inks.

As I don’t have inks right now I run water in between the cracks and then water down a bright red first and just touch the brush to the water. If you’ve ever seen panel lining on a space marine the capillary action takes the red and runs it through. When that’s dry I’d do the same with a yellow and mix in the red at the same time so it blends.

You have quite a bit of working time so it is quite loose and enjoyable to do with a pretty cool end results I think

The glow coming through the flagstones looks amazing. Well done! And thank you for the link, might have a friend print some of those up.

Thank you for your kind answer, sir!
I love the glowing effect you put into the cracks, I will try that technique. I think I might have overcomplicated my design, so maybe just a base of Mordant Earth with an underground colour and, afterwards, the glowing technique you just explained so well, could work. Anyways I have a friend who owns a 3D printer so I will ask him if he could print those bases for me, they are quite scenic. There’s both the square and round options, too!
Cheers and keep up the good work

Not going to lie guys, I’m struggling with these.

I’ve mentioned before about the quality of the casts for these minis, I really wanted to do my best quality Eavy Metal style on them to look great up on a shelf.

Now I know that’s not going to be possible, I just don’t have the skill to do it on these minis, I decided instead of being out off just to play about with some stuff.

So I just started slapping paint a mini, sticking with the classic red and black but went for a bit of a different colour scheme too. Wanted to do the glowing stuff just to deal with the face
