True, I ment it is cheaper IF You already have wolfriders ![]()
I think best way to do it is to put a lvl2 on Lamassu (W5) and lvl4 on carpet (W3). Yes. With Breath weapon. His role is to fly around and chip damage with magic and breath weapon.

Haha fair enough, I was more aiming at simiar cost/effect models ![]()
But agreed, Daemonsmiths on Lammasu should not be dismissed!
I know, but since the Wolf Riders will have to stick around the Khan I think it’s only fair to include the costs. But as I said, of course they will do more than just ferry around the Khan. But then there’s also the different Leadership and the Daemonsmith also does more than just cast The Summoning and so on and on. It’s complicated ![]()
So much of this army revolves around the daemonsmiths though. They are fantastic. I feel its vital to keepthem alive and keep them casting
Within 9 of death shriekers too!
As is only proper for Chaos Dwarfs I’d say!
But absolutely, they are a great model. There’s room in any army for those. If only IF ONLY they could be mounted on an Iron Daemon, it would be so great. Shame.
Keeping them alive is the key part. Lamassu allows You to cast more as Bale Taurus screams Combat ![]()
Not to mention we can get a very solid CC Wyvern for 350 ish not 460ish.
This is an interesting option too. I just fear all those ambushers. Hard to protect engines from them.
Well they can’t be targeted if within 3" of an infantry unit or war machine, that should give them some protection.
Biggest danger are always poisoned attacks. And our own capable Ambushers with BS4 and Multiple Shots (2) should not give a false impression here. I feel the majority of armies does not have particularly dangerous ambushers. Wood Elves, Skaven and Lizardmen come to mind. Plus a few with Scouts, but those are easier to deal with.
Cannons can and cannons are basically the only war machine I see in-mass.
I have one more DSR to re-base and an earthquaker to paint and we will see a true gunline in action.
Only a 1/6 chance, though. And if your opponent uses his cannon to go after your lone Daemonsmith instead of your Iron Daemon or Lammasu or Bale Taurus or Wyvern: Great, let him!

This is good. And makes a point for a magic Carpet too.
Sure, but with 4 guys in b2b and the rest in support, the total amount of attacks still wouldn’t be 20.
I had a bit of an experience with a ruby ring khan this evening, where he used evasion to get behind a hill to hide from incoming fire. Worked pretty much as a reserve move. Evasive can be used against magic missiles as well, afaik, so it’s a pretty useful thing to have.
At least with the daemonology lore, there are more spells that are geared towards combat than not, so a daemonology lamassu would get little use out of his spells. Other lores are different, of course.
Oh right, I didn’t realise this was the math. Was just commenting on how fighting ranks are formed in this case
I mean let’s give the Lammasu some credit in close combat. You have to pick battles a bit carefully, but you should never shy away from the right battle. With Mace tail upgrade and Daemonic viguor as well as vessel active you can def clear a front rank.
I did finish a graveguard unit off with mine. It was few models+caster strong but it was enough to make them crumble to dust.
Go Lammasu! ![]()
I mean just to recap for those who, like me, tend to forget: Lammasu has Armour Bane (2) as well as Furious Charge!
With Daemonic Vessel and Mace Tail on a charge we’re looking at
4 Attacks WS4 S6 AP-1 AB(2) +
1 Attack WS4 S6 AP-3 AB(2) +
D3 S5 Stomps
plus whatever the Sorc throws in the mix. It’s certainly no Dragon, but it’s at least en par, arguably better!, with a Wyvern.
I think a 250ish ponts lvl 2 mage on a flank on lamassu can be useful. I just try to find space for Wyvern! I really LOVE the old shaman of wyvern (wyvern standing on 1 foot) so I want to try him out!
S7*
Woe the enemy against whom you roll a 6 to wound -5 armour, damn ![]()
Of course, Mace Tail comes with its own S+1! Even better.
I mean yeah, needs Daemonic Vessel, the Mace Tail upgrade and you have to charge (that part should be the least of the problems though). But Lammasu is certainly not only a token piece. It can do some damage!
Best part is Lamassu turns their Ogre Blade into a stick. And lamassu is very a custamizable unit. You can make it a CC oriented, or a shooting platform…
Mage on top has a high chance to get some nasty toys from Darkforged weapon too. +1S, Hatred or d3 wounds…
Ok. Decided to squize in an Orc Warboss into my 1750 list and I did!
I also like the small, 5 orc unit of black orcs. Not sure is 2HW are better than extra weapon but they can flack whateven charges my Blunderbussiers to the flank.

In general Wyvern is inferior to Bale Taurus. no +1 on his stomps and his attacks are less impressive (Wyvern’s tail has no AP and less S so even Poison does not make up for it).
No Blazing Body and 3+ Ward vs flaming attacks too.
On the other hand Black Orc has Furious Charge instead of a Wyvern and this is better. There is also Waaagh! with +1 CR and re-rolls of 1 and when we look at Wyvern as a combat monster we get more for less.
Black Orc cost approx. 350 fully kited-out while Bale cost approx. 450. Sure we have a caster that can dispel and buff himself with Daemonology or Terror bomb enemy units with Dark Magic but when Your army need a monster for a single job, Wyvern is better.
I think having BOTH in a 2k list (or even better in a 1995 list) is great but my 1750 list needed a punchy piece as I already has other tools.
I just do not get WHY wyvern has heavy armour as it has zero effect on the game as we use Black Orc’s armour.
