Bale Taurus > Wyvern
Black Orc Warboss > Sorcerer-Prophet (in combat, obviously)
You take the Wyvern for the boost it gives to the Warboss, while you “make do” with the Sorc as a fighter to get the Bale Taurus into combat. Now of course there’s different points costs and the Sorc also is a wizard and all of that, but fundamentally this is the choice.
Well, WE do. But the Wyvern is from an army list where also an Orc Warboss or, even better, a Shaman can mount one and they certainly welcome the Heavy Armour it brings
Bale is ment to kill units of cav and infantry. With Flaming Body especially. Black Orc is ment to kill armoured (AP4 with 2HW) monsters and other beasts. With Waaagh! re-rolls to hit and Choppas re-roll to wound on a charge it is a nasty dude.
Actually, (yes, I said it) the Bale Taurus’ furious charge doesn’t mention it being mount only, so the sorcerer on top actually benefits from it as well.
Which, btw, would also be true for Lammasu’s Furious Charge and even Armour Bane (2)!
BUT, and here is the kicker: It also works the other way around. The Black Orc has Furious Charge, so that should affect the Wyvern as well.
Personally I find it all very off-putting. It’s another thing I’ve asked GW but I don’t expect an answer. Then again I framed it as a Chaos Dwarf question but it also applies to Orcs.
I actually quite like the idea of the prophet being influenced by furious charge and armour bane while on the lamassu.
The Lamassu is a highly manipulative creature that exerts quite a high level of control over its “rider”. I imagine it whispering words that cause the rider to furiously lash out at his enemies, and offer guidance to pierce the chinks in the enemy’s armour.
Especially the Lammasu but also the Taurus are pretty exotic beasts and steeped in magic I’d say. It’s conceivable that they exert a much greater influence on the rider’s psyche than, say, a griffon. And also let’s face it - the Sorc can really use that boost in combat and still is not eye to eye with the top tier fighters.
It does look good. The one time I fielded my prophet on a carpet, I just put him on the table as is, and imagined him floating like the fatty from dune, all menacing like:
I think I like the idea that when I field mine on foot he will just float on a carpet. Lazy, stone-legged grumpy old dwarf. Carpet - fantasy version of a wheelchair.
Honestly - the carpet was an excuse to re-base this guy. I like small projects like this. Instant gratification!
We had this discussion earlier like it that you too think that the prophet or smith will benefit. I just tell myself the taurus is so much fueld by furious flames that rider gets angry too, while the armour bane (2) is part of the Lamassu’s aura that also effects the lord/hero.
