Chaos in all Dwarfs - Conversions of FS, KO, HSoH and Votann

I am new here, but I started my journey into Chasos Dwarves a few years ago. This was before we fount out about the Helsmiths of Hashut being added to AoS.

My partner wasnt as big into 40k as I am so I wanted to encourage her, so I also started an AoS army which were Fyreslayers. However as I didnt really like the aestetic of them I much prefered the old Chaos dwarfs, so I thought I would chaos-ify them and well this has sort of led me down a path of converting existing dwarf factions and also getting the new Helsmiths

I am looking to repaint and even finalise someone these before posting them here. However has the Helsmiths of my current fixation I will post these first.

This was my test model, I liked the design of Yellow and black from the fan made Dornian Heresy art work.

Of course I had to throw in some purple to compliment the dull yellow.

I have called these the Zdarr-Dorund, the idea is that they seek knowledge and keep what they find to themselves etc, Evil archaeologists in the realm of death.

My War Despot

Very Wario like as you can see!

I also came up with a icon for them, I had noticed that the HSoH have an icon then a smaller symbot that is different next to them so I did the same.

To represent the knowledge side I though a lock and key, and yes the Lock is in the shape of a bulls head, I am that predictable

Love the yellow scheme here.

The purple addition too really suits the minis, I like this a lot as well as that personalised iconography too.

Welcome to the forum, I’m really looking forward to the rest of this blog

While I am working my way through my Helsmiths, I thought I would show you what I ahve done done so far for the Chaos Kharadron Overlords. So the overall theme I wanted as a Dieselpunk style, very industrial yet Chaos without the trim, skulls and spikes you will come to find with my Chaos Fyreslayers as well are okay!

Here was the original idea (Plus some Chaos looking symbols I was toying with using), I wanted to use the default miniatures as much as possible so players could at least know what they were being used as and not just another kit from a different range that I wanted to proxy etc.

The plan was to use a new MK3 helmet from the Horus Heresy range and just cut the eyes upwards off the helmet, and then flip the mouth plate upside down and add pipes for a sudo-beard look. I did try this in a sense but It felt to futuristic for my liking shown below:

I was not sold on this however so I saw some looking around and found the Death Korps of Kreig combat engineers had some very inductrial shoulder pads which were large enough to use shown below:

This looked much better for what I wanted, the rivets helped add much of that industry vibe I wanted.

The other thing I wanted to change was the pistols, they are shown as flintlock pistols which work with the default KO models but that is more steampunk and not dieselpunk. So the one pistol I think of when it comes to dieselpunk is the Mauser pistol, luckily the DKoK engineers have a pistol that looks simlar so I took that and replaced the barrel with ones from an AdMech rifle and created the below:

I do think the barrel is a little too detailed so may just replace it for a brass rod in time but its fine for now.

As for the leader of the squad I saw that they can have either a one BIG barrels pistol or a three barrelled pistol, so I though I would make a revolver styled pistol and run this as the three barrelled version. I used a revolver pistol from another AdMech kit and just cut down the revolving cylinder and it looks better suited:

Now let me show you the end product of these, the leader isnt painted so I just slapped a black and white filter over it but the regular privateer is painted in the style I want so you can get an idea of what I am going for:

Great! I really like how this came together - the overall look, the pose, and the paint job are all executed excellently!! Well done. We need more

So these are my finished models so far from the Infernal Cohort box

First one is the leader, I liked what I did on the blades for the others to show demon energy so I added it to the hammer.

This is the Musician, I felt like if I copied where the colours were on the GW model with what the default colours are on the regular guys I wouldnt have enough yellow on this mini so I decided to use yellow for the mask instead.

I loved painting this mini, I love painting skin as a whole!

Lastly for today I have the Gong Carrier, I wanted to keep the colours muted and nothing bright so show that they are not well off.

Love this scheme you’ve chosen, it’s really suited all these minis you’ve done :hatoff:

What’s your plan with the engine? Yellow too or all metallics?

Looking really great! Nice work. :ox:

Thank you both!

I think I will stick with the yellow and black trim if I am being honest, just to keep it thematic.

I am just hoping the Green flames wont be too much for it but I should have it done by the end of the week I think. (Fingers crossed)

So unfortunately I have been on a bit of a lul when it comes to painting/modelling.

I was distracted by video games and well just didnt have the urge to do anything hobby related.

But this is what I managed to gt done before the lul hit for the dominator engine, I am not feeling the ispiration for this at the moment so for the time being it will be shelved till I do. I dont wanna work on something that I dont have the passion for and just rush it.

However I have started painting again by continuing my Ultramarines just to get me back into it and as for modelling I have had some motivation for my Chaos Kharadon Overlords.

I havent finished painting the basic Arkanauts as I want to change the pistal to a more break action one round pistol much like these images I found:

So I need to rework them before I start painting them but that will be a new year thing for now.

I have however been working on the bodies for the Thunderers, I tried a concept but the overall design dinbt match the vision I had with the Arkanauts:

It felt too rounded and not very intimidating, so I had to relook at this. I decided to use the groin plate used on my Arkanauts for most of the armour and here is the final design:

This one I tried to also make with an Aetheric Fumigator but I think it looks too modern for AoS so I ended up removing it.

This then lead to the final forms of the squad shown below:

Non are equiped with weapons as I have some ideas I want to try.

The Aethercannons will be a WW1 looking battleship cannon barrel with a break action style to it.

The Decksweaper is just going to be a five barrel break action shotgun.

The Mortar will just be the same as the Aethercannon but with a wider and shorter barrel.

Yes please, more of the same

I’m looking at a great Necromunda warband here too I think, I love the chaotic sci-fi vibe you’ve got with these.

Always great updates on this thread

So I have attempted to create the guns for both the Arkanauts and Thunderers

This is the breakaction pistol, almost like an oversized flaregun

As for the Aethermatic Volley Gun, I did try and create a revolving rifle

Here is the breakaction Aethercannon

The mortar, just a smaller version but more wider

Finally the decksweeper, just a breakaction 5 barrel shotgun
