It has been a few years, but inspired by the Army boosting CD Contests and the realization that if I don’t start getting this pile painted or sold, I never will get anywhere near the bottom… here is to another attempt.
I’ve changed tactics in the last few years. I now do my best to only rarely acquire unpainted models. I have acquired 3 warbands or armies in the last year that only required minimal paint touch up or basing to make them complete. No new unpainted warbands or armies going forward, and only purchase of unpainted items needed to fill or complete existing units, builds, and holes in army composition.
There are as always exceptions, that amazing deal on a model or unit I have had my eye on for years, or a ridiculously low cost for a large batch of models. My goal is to keep these to a small minimum and make solid headway against the grey either painted or passed along. We shall see how it goes.

BATG 2026 Special Projects
Special projects such as painted army repaints, touch ups or rebasing go here for tracking. As these are finished I will be including these as they represent progress toward goals and painting work “Completed”, but they will not count towards the total against the grey.
- Iron Hive Army: (3d printed zombie nids reanimated with mechanical parts): 58 models ( infantry, small, large, and very large monsters, to partially repaint, and re-base or magnetize. 30+ models needing new paint jobs.
- Empire Army: ~100 models to re-base + plus paint and touch up

Updated Jan + Feb numbers in the first post above. Have definitely been productive compared to last year, but mostly paint and basing completion/detail/rework items for projects which have been on my list to complete.

Special Projects - Iron Hive Army Pic heavy
I started collecting a 3D printed Iron Hive army 3rd quarter of last year. These STLs are made by the Makers Cult, and I’ve wanted to build an army since the first time I saw these mechanically reanimated zombie nids. I acquired approximately 45 small infantry models (mostly hormagaunt aand gargoyle equivalent models) on eBay, 15 of which I painted in full Nov-Def 2025. Late Dec, I found another lot that was largely painted in primarily black and gunmetal with some detail work. The project was to do a partial re-paint to bring them in line with the models Inhad already painted. Jan to early Feb, I worked through all of this second set. 56 models reworked added the blue green teeth, claws and spikes, red armor plates, and some other specific details. Been a fun project and I am quite happy with the fast work, and the resulting look:
