I am not yet confident with ToW rules and maybe it has already been discussed but during my latest game there has been a discussion about an odd situation.
I charged an unit of Boar Boyz with a regiment of Dark Elf spearmen and an unit of Cold One knights (see picture).
At the end of the fight, dust settled, and orcs won by 1.
We had a discussion if having 2 units in close Order against 1 unit in Close Order my Dark Elves had some sort of bonus.
The rule is not clear IMO, as long as you know, Close Order bonuses accumulate?
If I have more Close Order units than my enemy, like +1 or +2, do I get +1 or +2 bonus in the Combat Result?
The short answer is that Close Order is cumulative. If you read this section, It talks about all the cases from ranks to standard. In the case of Close Order:
For example, a Close Order formation that is in Combat Order may claim a bonus of +1 combat result point. If two such units are engaged in the same multiple combat, you may claim this bonus twice because the rule that grants it does not state otherwise.
Another question: if it stacks and the rule not specifies the maximum bouns, if have MORE than one unit in close order above my opponent? For example, if I have 3 units in Close Order and my opponent NONE, do I claim +3?
@Bassman I believe so mate. Would be a rare situation and would probably be including flanks and all sorts at that point too. If it gets to that point the opponent is probably saying their prayers anyway hahah
But yeah my reading is if you had three close order units fighting some very wide open order unit, they’d get +3 combat res for close order
Yah just keep in mind you have to have a unit strength of 5+ to get a close order bonus so each unit would need this. But sure if you charged with 3 heavy chariots and they all got in they would get +3 CR
Dear friend, you see the picture? I charged orc boar boys with 5 Cold Ones and 22 Dark Elf warriors with AP banner, full command. My elves killed 0 (zero). Luckily Cold Ones avenged the dumb elves and managed to make the 3 kills I needed to negate rank bonus to the orcs. Yet the green skins delivered a rightful carnage in response and won by 1 despite flank and banners… do not underestimate the power of dices
We agreed to not apply the Close Order cumulative rule, hence I lost the break test (no good day with dices) and since then orcs won by landslide. Next time I know how rules work. Thanks everybody for help!
