Damn dude, you’re crushing it! I’m thinking I might prime some hobgrotz tonight.
A couple of pics of the next items I’m working on. Since I need to get the hobs painted up for an escalation league, Darkforged works out nicely as motivation.
While this isn’t core, I’m still working on painting up other big hat CD models. This hero is inspired by Zhatan the Black from TWW3. I need to build up to some lighter shades on the armor but ultimately want him to match my other LoA models. I’m not sold on the beard color or scheme in general atm.
Standing alongside LoA as CA intended!
What darkforged darkforgery is this!? You copied me copying you by chequing the tall crook hat AND putting him in the front right of the regiment…
I need to get priming my Hobgrotz!
Started building up from the black base coat with a grey and white dry brushing. I’ll probably add a couple of thin coats afterward.
A unit of HobGob Archers done. I guess this will be my core unit for this month. I will add a command group but thats for later.
Now the unit is painted! Will be basing them and the tray next week probably.
I am no author, but I have a little plan for fluff atleast, since that was part of the challenge. That will come when everything is finished and will likely be incredibly cliche hehe
Awesome stuff everyone! I’ve got a week to paint my Hobgoblins!
Now my unit is finished! Yesterday I gave them a new banner. I added checkers to one of Malorns greenskin flags, so that it would more resemble the flag of the 90’s. Today I finished the basing and tray.
I have written a short lore story, but it is my first time writing any lore of the sort so do not expect much more than cliches hehe. It introduces both the obligatory self insert Lord Drexxl Shadowtusk and his abode, the Spire of Tusks.
LORE:
The Thrice Unshackled
The beginning of the story of the Thrice Unshackled is neither known nor cared about. For all intents and purposes it starts in a mine outside of the Spire of Tusks.
Black Orcs had at this point become a much rarer sight in any of the mines and labour camps of the Dark Lands, being long seen as a failed experiment. Thus it was surprising to see so many in one mine, and wholly unsurprising that they would eventually rebel. It was Borduk, now known as “da Kaptenn” that first broke his shackles and proceeded to butcher the dwarven slavers.
This rebellion was short lived, as they all end up being, and the black orcs were duly rounded up, with Borduk impossible to identify. Thus a quarter of their number was given as an offering to the Bullfather. A second quarter was given to the surviving slavers to do with what they wish. The remaining half was put to work as cannon fodder and soldiery for the patrolling forces of the badlands as to not unnecessarily waste slaves. Thus leaving a high chance the insurrectionist would die an excrutiating death, and if not, at least a pointless death in battle.
But da Kaptenn survived, and bided his time during the grueling years of service as a slave soldier. It was the Seneschal called Dharguz Emberbraid that in his arrogance considered the black orcs broken. Seing them month after month, year after year fighting on without spirits, like puppets with untalented puppeteers. He was thus completely taken by surprise when one sunny morning during a routine skrimish against goblins, the Black Orcs suddenly and in complete unison found their strength, tore their chains and turned on their masters, using their broken chains as flails.
The Black Orcs joined the goblin raiders for a time with Dharguz as a hostage, as a vague hope of salvation. But this time was short lived. The raiders were found by the army of Sorcerer-Prophet Drexxl Shadowtusk. And at this point, these orcs had started to pique the interest of the sorcerer.
The failure of Dharguz Emberbraid was not looked upon kindly. And whilst many remember the broken form of Dharguz body impaled on the wall those eight years ago, it is said that his screaming voice can still be heard from one of the higher sanctums of the Spire.
The torture the black orcs endured in the Spire of Tusks was unimaginable. But this torture was not intended as a mere punishment, but to fully break their minds and wills. The result was creatures like wild animals. Docile and controllable by the masters that subdued them. But thrashing like rabid dogs when set upon their prey.
It is therefore that their third and final unshackling was done by Lord Drexxl himself. During a battle against a tribe of ogres, the sorcerer prophet called upon Hashut to melt the shackles of the Black Orcs. The melting metal searing their skin, driving the rather formidable warriors into a frenzy. And their performance during the battle did not go unnoticed.
How much of “da Kaptenn” remains is neither known nor cared about. But the armored forms of the Thrice Unshackled continues to follow him. They lumber forward with minds broken, nothing left in them but killing, as mad dogs of the Sorcerer Prophet.
They look wonderful, that banner with the chequers is such an iconic look!
Love that piece of fluff too, well done mate!
It took way longer than I thought, but my core regiment for March is finally assembled. Managed to write some lore too, so at least two boxes ticked for March.
Would you like to know more?
So of all parts of a core unit I heroically managed to finish… its empty bases!
(No, I don’t think that it counts, just using the opportunity to show off. ^^)
Read here the full tutorial in two parts:
Well, basing a unit is technically one of the milestones. And basing you did!
The Tarnished
A coveted secret, The Tarnished are clad in armour made of an alchemical bronze alloy that few forges in the Darklands can create. Requiring rare and arcane minerals, the unique metal that is used to forge this armour is prone to developing the distinctive patina that gives the bearers their name.
I speed painted these Warriors using some new painting techniques using some paints that I picked up at Adepticon. Pretty pleased with these, but I may go back and deepen some of the reds.
More than an hour to spare! Plus I have a bunch of Hobgoblins on the go, and some Fireborn!
The only thing I did in March was get these blorcs painted up and based (technically played one game if we count a mordheim battle).
I’ll see if I can take some nicer photos to post in my BATG thread (which I need to start for the year) tonight.
Attempting to do a tally for March’s Darkforged efforts!
@Xander @Oxymandias @KhamdrimSkyMaster @Drexxl @Kuanor @Achaias
Did anyone place any Old World games in March or accomplish a bonus? If so, just let me know, and I’ll add it to my sheet!
I did play a battle (if Warhall counts, ahahaha), and did base them (just don’t have a tray)
Absolutely that counts! I’ll add it to the sheet!
