Dread quake Mortar Base Query

Had a game last night and I use the old 4th Edition Earthshaker as a Dreadquake Mortar. The rules state base size N/A but my opponent stated it should be the size of the large forge world train model.

This allowed them to maximise about 8 dark riders into combat with it.

Is this accurate? Made no difference in the end as the hardy dwarfs held their own for a turn until the Lammasu came in and destroyed the riders.

Just want to know for next time and I’ll base it to avoid confusion.

well if you are playing it as DQ mortar, it would count as it, so the base should be that long ass train one

im rusty as fuck, but if you were playing 4th edition instead, back then there werent base size for warmachines, so only what was able to touch properly the model was in combat with it
if you want to put it on a base and consider it as “proper” model, it should fit on a 40square if i remember correctly, so in both cases, that plus crew was a rank of 4/5 model as front row.

going with a FW model instead, yeah it should have been considered having that long ass base

but once again, im rusty as fuck

In my view the base size for a N/A should accommodate the size of the model and match the usual size of bases found in Old World. So if you can fit your Earthshaker model on a 50x75 then that should be fine. If you have a huge model and need a 100x150 that’s also fine. Your opponent doesn’t get to pick the base size that he wants though!

my earthshaker is on a 60x100 FYI.

Cheers

You could argue that that FW model is the variant that has the steam carriage upgrade, and without that upgrade you are looking at a 60x60mm model (or maybe even 50x50mm).

The NA base size is because (I believe) the intent it to use the ForgeWorld DQM model itself for the base size dimensions.

My old post approximately shows the dimensions… I’m traveling at the moment so can only look up stuff ;). … ~160x55mm or there abouts.

That one is on the carriage (FW) my earth shaker is on a 50x75. The rules say N/A, there is no where it states, implies or can reasonably infer that it should be the same size as the old FW DQ model.

If it was on a carriage, the old base size by FW is the precedent, without one? I did what fit and was a happy medium between the two.

However I would not use the carriage special rule on my current earth shaker because it doesnt have the applicable foot print that the old one does.

I am also having no problem putting my BigHat Mortar on a 50x75. That way It’s the same as the Deathshrieker and gives ma army coherency. I would not let my opponent dictate my base size in that case. Newrecruit.eu also suggests 50x75 btw.

Tell him he can only use official models only in official citadel colour paints

I field my dreadquake (earthshaker) on a 50*50mm. If it fits, it sits.

The general consensus for the FW model back in 8th was 100*60 without steam carriage and 200(!)*60 with the carriage.
