FDM-printed Fabelzel Chaos Dwarfs

Hi,

I thought people might be interested in seeing what a Bambu A1 Mini can do with Fabelzel’s brilliant STL files. The prints are not perfect - in particular, layer lines show up on the axe and there are occasional “gritty” bits (particularly on the underside of the mini where the supports attach).

But overall I’m pretty happy as there’s no way I’d’ve painted a Chaos Dwarf without the printer and the STLs.

I used speed paints on the Sorcerer, which I think was to its detriment - the layer lines are more pronounced. The gunner had traditional paints, and even so you can see a few distorted parts, particularly around the shoulder pads.

I tried slicing the Bull Centaur into two pieces for printing, to minimise how much supporting was required. But that left a visible join mark between the two pieces.

You can see the printer struggles with the helmet spikes - they are a bit wobbly.

Finally this was a lot of fun and something you can only do with 3D printing - I turned one of the 28mm scale STLs into a bust.

At least on the picture these look absolutely perfect. I’m sure they’ll pass the tabletop test too. Fantastic work!

Amazing, I recently acquired a Bambu A1 for the purpose of printing terrain. But I might try to print a few minis as well. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! These would all be printed with a 0.2mm nozzle, using fairly standard PLA. I’ve used a bunch of settings but for these figures I think the default “Fine” setting worked as well as anything else.

If you do print anything I’d love to see it!

Thank you!

The bust is pretty damn cool, it’s a brilliant idea :light_bulb:
