Golden Hat XLIII: Standard Bearer

That’s it dammit.
I suck at modeling,
I suck at painting,
I suck at story telling,
I suck at paying taxes, I guess.
BUTT
I AM entering the comp…
Er we go, Er we go, Erwe go.

High on life brother.
I am really excited about this contest.
I have no skills to win it compared to all the amazing people on this site.
But we will meet them in battle nonetheless.

Don’t say that, there’s a guaranteed vote if you’re willing to mangle a Lamassu to get it  I’m also high on life :v:

I started the model. Things are moving, and I must be quick as holidays are finally on sight xD

Ah my Lords. I have been away too long! The last few months I have been distracted by the viscitudes of fate. Turning back the never ending tribes of Traveye, subjugating the S’Heepee Dhee Khanate. Such are the trials of a leader.

On my return, what do I find. Poor Igor, distraught. The latest requests from our High Priests and the pirate captains of our Ship of Faith lying unaddressed. He really cannot cope without me. He literally burst into tears at my return, wailing and pulling his hair, overcome with joy.

Still, there was little time and much to do. I must confess that I was initially at a loss.
I know my Lords. Me , Uther. Lacking an innovative spark.
As I am sure you are aware the act of creation can be hard, painful, tortuous and agonising (something I have had to explain to my design team many times, and with a wide variety of surgical instruments).

Igor saw my distress and sought to aid me, Hashut bless him. He had many suggestions for getting the creative process underway. He spoke at great length, if I remember. He explained that he has been following someone and studying their tubes. Really young people today. When I was young there was no ‘following’. We just had to visit the Questioners to study people’s tubes. I digress. This individuals tubes apparently had suggested (I think it must be like reading the sacrificial entrails) many approaches to stimulating ideas. Igor did explain them at great length but, to be honest, I am not sure that either he or I fully understood them. All this ‘New Age of Sigmar’ thinking seems quite bizarre. Nevertheless, I was at a loss so we tried some of these ‘novel’ approaches.

I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised. Admittedly ‘firing a few hobgoblins up in the air to see what came down’ was not productive, but proved unexpectedly artistic. Similarly ‘Brainstorming’ produced fewer ideas and more splatter that predicted. I must say my favourite was ‘running an engineer up the flagpole’. Most entertaining and enlightening. I think it was this last that finally sparked an idea (ironically the creative spark idea merely wasted some talented designers and left scorch marks which have proved most difficult to remove. I cannot recommend it). So, finally inspired, we have begun. The forges are fired up. The engineering team replenished (it took several flagpoles to be honest) and the performance incentives sharpened. To Work!

Aim hobgoblin doom diver at a canvas and fire away.

A little fresh ground pepper to finish, and you’ve got yourself a quality golden hat entry! Very entertaining read as always Uther.

I’d love to see dioramas of how Chaos Dwarfs create their banners. Whether it be artisanal smithing, paint on cloth, or classic hobgoblin mess-around.

The kharadron have a crewman with a paintbrush on the biggest flyboat. Fun pieces on a model that tell a story are peak Chaos Dwarfs in my book.

My sides! The travails of lord Uther and Igor are legendary. Stellar writing as always.

You don’t happen to have copies of all Igor posts of yours already saved in a document? Just asking, because I’ll have to search them all out and compile them in due time.

Looking foward to see your standard bearers! There is a slim chance I’ll get to enter. Great subject.

Cheers

Sadly Igor’s filing system is haphazard at best. Admittedly the high Igor turnover rate may not help.

No matter.Hopefully we can sort something out. I have spoken with Igor about this and made my point. He is aware he will have to improve or I will be forced to use it.

Regretfully I have not found the time to make mine. I had grand plans of 5 Chaos Dwarfs bearing aloft a mighty purple windsail, adorned with a Lamassu’s beard and inscribed with the lyrics to Purple Rain. Alas, life duties got the better of me.

Look forward to seeing + voting for the entries. I know they’ll be glorious.
