Howdy!
I know, it’s a long read. The only thing to know is that I love to have found this community of outcasts.
It all started back in 95’, when I had to wait for my father to pick me up from school. There was a hobby store nearby and I spent my time there almost every afternoon. I had recently discovered Warhammer Fantasy through my basketball coach (also videogames and hip-hop), but I had no money, so I spent my time there daydreaming, looking at all the options, thinking thrice before buying anything. I didn’t participate much in games and was shy, because everyone there was older than me (I was around 12yo at the time). I remember not being sure of which army wanted to pick, but the malevolent Duardin caught my attention. They were different, goofy, inspiring.
At that time, I managed to get a couple of chaos dwarfs warriors boxes, Bale Taurus, Astragoth, Dreadquake mortar, and a couple of centaurs (and hopefully some other bits that I might have not found yet and forgotten). I read the codex a thousand times.
Then they dropped them.
A while after that, Dogs of War came along. They looked cool, and got Oglah Khan (which is the model I use nowadays) and other cool miniatures.
Then they dropped them.
I ended up changing most of my DoW army for a plastic monopose elven army. I was young, stupid, and still regret it to this day.
I dropped from the hobby altogether.
A few years later, a small group of friends got excited with the game again, and I built an Imperial Guard army. I enjoyed painting some of their stuff, but didn’t click as deep as the Fantasy setting.
We got bored and busy and dropped the game again.
Fantasy was butchered a few years later, and although I didn’t like much the Aos premise/setting (and the griftiness), I built a Seraphon army. I dropped again shortly after.
Some would say I hoard a big pile of plastic, some might think it’s not enough.
Fast forward to this year, I bought the Chaos Dwarfs Dlc for TWW3. That put me back on the right track, I found most of my OG army in the attic and here I am again, in love with my childhood army and amazed with the great works from many of the contributors to keeping Chaos Dwarfs alive. There are beautiful sculpts around here, with slightly different vibes, so you can choose what kind of Chaos Dwarfs army you want to build.
At the moment, I am painting a mix of Fabelzel’s and upscaled Forest Dragon miniatures; I’m saving the OG ones for when I have a bit more practice with the brush. I also found some boxes from Russian Alternative and will also start to save up for HoH…
If you got here, may Hashut show you the path! Thank you!
