James Workshop is slowly drip feeding us yet more AoS Hashut lore!
I am not sure they’re going to acknowledge the old world implications of that last statement at all. There is a lot of secretive and crazy stuff being hinted at with Dwarf lore in AoS from before the age of myth. This is another part added to that.
Still, Zugrom’s quote here is pure fire.
“The ancestors sought to hide him from us. They lacked the courage to steal fire from the dark powers. Lacked the wit to wield it. But not all of us forgot.”
Preach, elder, preach!
Etal reekvol ta Zoro-Zull!!!
HASHUT HASHUT HASHUT!!!
I like the idea of having old, wise and influential Hashut followers in disguise roaming the duradin dwarf societies trying to convert or force lead them into damnation a more promising life. Finally we see prophets of Hashut at work. In old Warhammer dwarfs that turn to chaos are renegades not Dawi Zharr. This is new and why not…
Love it!
I understand that this happens in the early stages of the Age of Chaos, while some duardins are looking for their gods for knowledge or technological advancement, while others offers a direct solution to a demonic invasion.
But I can understand that this story could be part of the Vermindoom, while some retaken Karaks are being sieged by the Skaven.
Either way, it seems that Hashut had something to do with the Ancestor Gods, and there is a lot of shaddy things from the Age of Myths. Hashut being part of all of this seems F%&# awesome!!
Wasn’t it more or less confirmed in the preview that he is an Ancestor God and was sent to the Realm of Beasts, but actually he didn’t liked it and got angry like a “bull seeing” a red shirt…
@Beliman I also think the short story is from the current timeline during the Vermindoom, though it fits as either or.
And yes, @Anima is right. During the reveal stream Hashut is called an “ancient and terrible Duardin Dwarf deity”.
Confusingly enough, they also contradict themselves. First they say that he was “almost one of them (the ancestor gods), he was part of their pantheon”.
Then later they just straight up say he was the ancestor god of the Zharrdron.
I have heard before that they have messed up the lore of what they’re talking about in the reveal streams. I assume Hashut IS an ancestor god.
In WD 514 we learn he is considered what AoS calls an “ascended god”, which they spell out is someone who used to be considered mortal, aka Sigmar, Nagash, Alarielle, Teclis, etc. He also apparently covets “elemental godhood”, which means to become a true warp god.
Again in the reveal stream we also learn that he was the ascended god of Ghur, just like Grungni was for Chamon and Grimnir was for Aqshy.
Some of the lore concerning the Ancestor gods prior to the proper start of the age of myth is from the Soulbound RPG. That lore is very strange, and frankly I don’t consider it canon until it’s referenced in official material, be it a black library book or battle tome.
But there is some strange lore about the ancestor gods in that time period from official sources too. I am really curious if they’ll expand on it, with some info about that last statement Zugrom makes.
At any rate, the reveal stream speaks about the battle tome like it will flesh out some of these legends. So if you have been starved for Hashut lore since the 90’s we’re getting some more soon!
What I was trying to say is that Hashut’s background was/is bit blurry.
Of course it was always linked (somehow) with Dwarf/Duardins, but I was pointing at all the mystery around Ancestor Gods during the Age of Myths, specially if Hashut was involved with the Great Betrayal.
I’m hoping they rework Gazul (dwarf god of dead/ underworld passage) to be Hashut.
Like in the greek pantheon where Hades is condemned to the underworld and rebels (quite a few times) against Zeus
In our case Gazul could’ve directed those seeing the inevitable collapse of the old world into a new religion. And been reborn as Hashut in a dark pact with the chaos gods
@Grimstonefire
Originally I saw like three different places all triangulating the release to be expected around late September early October. This is by looking at all the stuff GW has announced recently and spacing it out, seeing how much time it would take to release.
Right now I’m siding with this comment I saw on reddit, talking about the AoS 10th anniversary competition:
So the date they say they are announcing the winners is Sep 7 which is a Sunday. Which means they could preview the Helsmiths on Sep 7 with the winners announced. This would put the preorder date on Sep 13 and the release on Sep 27 for the army box. - Nybling
That’s the army box/spearhead release, then the rest of the army was gonna release “a couple/few months after” according to the reveal stream I think it was.
Regarding Gazul, I think he’s eaten by Nagash if I remember correctly. Though the Dwarven underworld is described as being “locked” by Grungni, so Nagash can’t access the souls inside, much to his frustration.
@Beliman That’s how I understood your comment too, but since the topic was brought up I wanted to try and summarize what we have heard so far
Sometimes I just repeat what I have heard elsewhere without confirmation, so I actually went back and rewatched the reveal stream to figure out what the source for calling him an ancestor god was.
@Grimstonefire
Yeah, apparently they gave away the Despot mini at a warhammer event in Tacoma, and they’re going to do the same during NOVA in late August.
Haven’t seen anyone with the full army box yet. Really looking forward to the paint schemes people have for them!
Basically it seems like they are setting up Hahsut to be the main opposed god to the GHR, even though he isn’t an “elemental deity”. That is interesting, because it seems like chaos naturally balances itself out to have maximum internal struggle.
It also seems like Hashut is being pulled in the direction of ascending to true warp-godhood.
Having picked up white dwarf and read the article that leads into Hashut too, all around the rise of The Horned Rat to becoming a chaos god, it makes for very interesting reading together.
Like others have said still fantastic just to read official NEW stories regarding Chaos Dwarfs and Hashut, enjoyed the reveal at the end of the Chaos Dwarf passage of the stone face.
Interesting too how this generation of Dwarfs seem to have forgot/not been taught about Hashut even though tributes like that statue are there and hidden in Dwarven holds across AoS.
For all the things I enjoyed about the old Big Hat range and lore they always felt, intentionally I’m sure, they were very distant to vanilla dwarfs. To make them more unique I think, not just with their miniature range but also all the stories just placed them in the dark lands away from everyone. Outside of the initial abandonment story and the fact ‘hey they dislike vanilla dwarfs so you can go fight them’ you never really read much interaction between them all. Some of our awesome writers did of course.
However, to have Hashut woven into the lore of the Dwarf Pantheon now in AoS and have it integral to the entire Dwarf History and not just Chaos Dwarf history I think can make it so much more interesting, get some real conflict in there based on more than just abandonment issues.
Obviously I’m sure if the minis had sold better we may have had more of this in the world that was. But we didn’t. So it’s great to see this now.
