It’s probably the question of the ages, but I’m completely new to big hats - from your personal expirience, should IG be equipped with firreglaives, blunderbusses or none of them cause they’re too pricey? thx for your replies
I guess we’re talking TOW here, right? Well.
As you’ve guessed, that’s a tricky question
Many competitive players only take the 10-model min unit and give them Fireglaives. They’re a threat in all phases but not a big one. We have also seen more and more people use Blunderbusses, despite their high cost and low strength. With conveyance spells and how shooting at large targets work, they do have play. The Razor Standard helps.
so IG is mostly played with melee stuff?
No, on the contrary, actually. Most people prefer Black Orcs as their main melee unit.
so for example two units of 10 firglaives and block of blorcks should go fine on 1500pts?
For one cd with a blunderbuss uou can have a cd with a great weapon and a hobbo with a short bow. 2 wounds on the table to 1.
The problem is it can be hard to charge 3 inch movement. So ranged weapons really help when charged and allow them to be useful when not in combat.
I think blunderbuss and shield is my favourite option. My favourite models all have melee weapons though…
I guess blunders + one other cd unit for me
All in all Infernal Guard are in a tough spot at the moment. Not because they’re bad at what they do (the fight pretty well and are average shots), but because they are pretty expensive and infantry as a whole doesn’t have it easy right now. If you look past that then all four equipments are viable.
sound sad tbh
Hi @Hashut_Kebab ,
My preference is for 16 IG with great weapons, shields, black shard, drilled and full command. When joined by a BSB the unit can bounce off a dragon with enough static combat resolution. I feel like I get better value for this unit which can actually fight for 320 pts than 10 fireglaives with similar upgrades for almost 200 points.
Now if you’re takin a big block of black orcs in core, then 10 fireglaives is a nice way to round out core to 500 points.
I’ve only run the blunderbuss block once and I honestly found all the dice rolling boring so I didn’t try it again ahah!
Dice rolling boring! most exciting thing. Bucket loads of dice and maybe a couple of kills haha
which bsb you found most price rewarding?
And in that case do you mix blocks of great weapon ig and blorcks in your roster?
I generally struggle to fit IG in army list cause I’m in love with the sculpts and cant stand the fact they seem to be off meta xD
In my first games I have had great success with Blunderbusses. Take around 18 to 29, full command, shield, Razor Standard, Hellshard, drilled. Add BSB with War Banner and Armour of Bazherak the Cruel.
Protect and teleport them with an Elementalism caster and you can even take on the fiercest dragons. Blackshard or Lamassu’s Beard only if you fancy. Earten Ramparts is there as well, usually.
A charging Dragon takes 4 wounds at AP-3 on its way in on avg. If you got Plague of Rust off, even at -5! Then you challenge and have 6 static combat res.
In my experience either the warbanner or lammasus beard on the BSB. The former guarantees you win combat against a dragon if your champion is alive and you have two ranks. The latter is better for when you want the ward save to protect something else in the army. Like if you have two iron daemons and you want them to have a ward save against shooting then LB is probably better.
Yes, War Banner is great on the BSB. You can then as well field a unit of Ironsworn with the Lammasu’s Beard because it will be safer on the unit’s standard bearer (if your local comp allows - our biggest TO around has put a 400 points cap on units where it gets difficult with chorfs…).
Agreed. The only one advantage of LB on the BSB is you have more control around the positioning which can be important as the 6” bubble can be tight. But on balance I agree that a War banner is better.
Plus with the new Renegade rules, LB helps the Ironsworn get to 500 points more efficiently.
