Insectoid's Unbaraki of Mingol Dumang

Part 9 - The Great Muster

So it was that the challengers agreed that whichever of them was to amass the most power, the most wealth and the most victories within a year’s span would come to rule. And they signed this pact in blood below the shadow of the Great Bull God’s statue, then to disperse, their retinues in tow, each to their respective quarters of the tower-city, and they began preparations for their great conquest.
If spoils of war were to decide which of them was to be leader of the Dumang, then all the forces at their disposal would have to be amassed at once. And so, the Great Muster began in earnest.

So, a little real-life update for this army project and things to come.

The challenge proposed within this story is actually one I plan to follow up on myself. I’ve got a lot of unfinished stuff for the Dumang lying around, and I’ve got three distinctive army lists I want to be able to field. They focus on the three things I find most iconic about the Drath’Zharr: Demonic Warmachines :astragoth:, endless tides of slaves :hob2020: and bull-worshipping fanaticism :hashut1:.

To get real for a moment, I stopped posting last year because I lost a lot of motivation for playing AOS. I have a lot of time constraints in my personal life and just got tired of new GHBs popping up every couple of months to drain me of 40 € AGAIN and present me with brand new rules to keep track of and build armies around when I’m already struggling with the basic ones due to lack of practice and time. It kinda made sense that I escaped into a skirmish game like Mordheim for a while and didn’t look back.

Fortunately, our local gaming community has a rather active Path to Glory group and I plan to simultaneously participate there with my three armies. This should give me ample time to build up each force unit by unit, and come up with interesting stories about the battles that take place. FortunatelY, PtG does not only start off on a smaller scale, but is also agnostic to the ever-changing “Realm Rules” that each new GHB brings, saving me both money and headache!

That being said, I’d like to give a couple of tastes of what I’m currently working on:

  • a unit of counts-as-Chaos-Knights Bull Centaurs -

  • a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak (or rhino gholem)

  • counts-as-Marauders mixed slave unit -

  • counts-as-Spire-Tyrants Orruk Slaves -

I’m quite happy to have found new motivation to pursue this project again, as it has grown quite dear to me. There is much more that I haven’t even begun to build, like another enthralled Daemon Prince, my Gorebeast Chariots or Chaos Spawns of Hashut. There’s also four warmachines in the working that I won’t post anything about atm because I actually want to participate in the current Golden Hat competition.

So, stay tuned, I guess. May Hashut bless y’all :icon1:

I get side-tracked so very easily. But this time, there was a just cause!

Stumbled across this old chap in my bitz box and decided to fix him up. He was gifted to me years ago when I was much younger by a friendly guy at a tournament who noticed my interest in his Chaos Dwarf army.

Being an idiot at that time, I eventually cut up this priceless relic for parts.
I have since shaven my head in shame.

It was proper time to give this poor mini back some of its dignity. Guess I’ll use it as an additional hero. Or maybe mount it on a rhino. We’ll see.

Here’s another mini I found in my To-Do pile. Back in the Dominion box days, when nobody wanted the new hobgrot models and they came dirt cheap, I toyed with the idea of making a whole army of them. That’s when I built this little guy - A mighty Khan.

I might use him as a Darkoath Warqueen to buff my hobgrot marauders at some point. Gender-normed hero designations be damned.

Another small update before the next larger one. This is going to be a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak. I’m pretty happy with managing to place the chonky boi on the appropriate base.

Also love those new Fyreslayers models for Warcry. Lots of good bits for converting.

I love Blood Bowl. Not the game itself, never played it, literally zero interest, BUT the minis. So much conversion potential, and now - this!

I think I’ll buy another couple of boxes when I next get the chance.

Did exactly the same. Don;t play the game but just had to have several teams

Hello everyone, I have returned to this forum with new vigour after seeing the new release for the Helsmiths of Hashut!

I have taken another hiatus from AOS to delve even deeper into Mordheim, writing and directing a 6-month campaign for the players at my friendly local game store. For anyone interested, the campaign book is 100% in English and I hope to release it via Broheim or another source after the campaign finishes and I had time to work in our player’s feedback. It takes place in the Chaos Wastes and warbands can belong to different factions, with the Black Dwarfs warband being present and able to buy slaves and use campaign points to create various items or buy slave units from other warband rosters…

But anyway!

I have returned and am very happy about the prospect of dipping my toes back into Age of Sigmar with a proper, playable Chaos Dwarf army! However, before I do this, I will have to devote some time to find oit what to do with some units I assembled back when I was playing them as proxy Slaves to Darkness. Since I haven’t shown them off here so far, I figure I’ll post some pictures as well, and I am happy for any suggestions as to what I might use them for in a Helsmiths army!

Here’s a group of Orruk slaves (with to Beastmen mixed in) which I played as a reinforced unit of Spire Tyrants. I used up multiple bitz I had lying around for a long time in their creation, along with some of the beautiful heads from (I think?) @Xander’s etsy shop.

Here’s a large group of Horns of Hashut. I actually liked their rules a lot when they were playable, causing impact Mortal Wounds on a Charge. I hope they will eventually make a return to the Helsmiths’ roster. Alternatively, I think the guys on the second photo could be easily used as a stand-in for Hobgrot Vandalz.

This little fella is based on one of the Hellcannon crew members with an altar from the Chaos warshrine kit and some added swag. I could easily use him as a lesser Daemonsmith or maybe even an Ashen Elder?

These were five Chaos Chosen proxies that absolutely KICKED ASS in the Path to Glory campaign I played them in. They have a subtle Slaanesh theme…

…because during that campaign their leader, the heretical Zarnath the Taker, actually made a lucky roll on the Eye of the Gods table and turned into a Daemon Prince of Slaanesh! Never finished painting the model, though.

That’s all for a bit, I’m happy as said about any input/suggestions, and will return shortly with my first conversion pics from the new Helamiths army set

Welcome back! It’s definitely been a fun time decently with all the Helsmiths releases. :flexed_biceps:

So, here’s my thoughts on and first attempt with what I got from the new Helsmiths of Hashut army set.

Since I’m somewhat rusty with AOS rules and it’s a new edition, I think I’ll try and createe everything for a couple Spearhead games first; from what I heard they’re supposed to be a lot if fun; lighter on rules and quick to play.

I still have my Blood Bowl conversions lying around. I only ever painted a single test model for them (see second picture). Unfortunately, their design (wider posture and larger helmets) don’t blend too well with the Infernal Cohort minis. I’ll probably either mix and match all models between units, or try swapping out hats/heads to diversify their looks a bit.

I think spears look amazing with dwarfs (and would be a logical choice as a weapon), but I don’t like the clean and bulky design of the Helsmith ones. I’ll try to order some Dark Elf spears to make the new models look more in line with my older ones. Though I like the new shields, I’ll also stick with the Tomb Kings shields for my dwarfs - I got other plans for the new ones.

Not sure what I think about the Bull Mecha. It looks very clean and nice for my taste. I understand obsessive symmetry is a motif for the Helsmiths, but I’d probably have preferred something more Dieselpunk than this. But since I don’t know yet how to improve the design, I’ll leave it as-is for now.

Conversely, I DO like the design of the new warmachines. But I added some slight touches to make them a little bit demonic (fleshy mouth-holes in the barrels and a couple fire imps trying to escape from inside).

I managed to build a Deathshrieker from spare parts and pieces of a “Galvanic Something-or-other” from the Mechanicus terrain. Tried to make it look a bit more chaotic as well. Pieces are magnetized for easier transport; still figuring out how to hide the magnets.

I’ve also rediscovered this Skullcannon I tinkered with in the past. I might wither use it as a foueth warmachine or strip it for parts if possible, which might be difficult however due to its design.

I also tried some of the new Infernal Cohort gear on some spare Hobgrots and I think I like the way it looks a lot. With an added helmet visor it gives them kind of a Bargain-Bin-Uruk-Hai look, which I dig.

Lastly, as a commander for my Spearhead force, I’ll need a Despot. I know some people dislike their Chorfs without beards, but I personally enjoy the fact that the new GW kits are not a sausage party anymore. This will be my chance to show the world that women can be ruthless, cruel taskmasters every bit as well as men!

My friendly local game store had some Ironbreaker bits in its bargain bin. I liberated them. There were enough for 10 minis, so this is the beginning of a reinforced unit of Infernal Razers with blunderbusses. Even found a spot for one of the old tuba helmets

Oh I love everything you’re doing here. So glad you’re back!

Just a short update on the Bussy squad. Turns out I miscounted the available bits and had to improvise a little to stretch the unit to 10 models. But the inclusion of a designated ammo grot fixed the problem quite nicely, I think! Also found a place here for the spicy sauce enjoyer from the Blood Bowl team; figured a guy like that would feel right at home in this unit!
