Despite having two major hobby projects on the go, I’ve finally bought Mortarion and intend to put him into a mini display
My idea is to build a frame which will sit on the back board which will be painted (or an ai type photo) of a swamp. On the base part would be rocks and slime etc. Nurgles garden
But I’m stuck on the frame part. I really don’t fancy having to hand sculpt hundreds of pieces to stick together. Any ideas?
This is the inspiration, from total war

You could try carving up some sprues, though it would be fairly labour intensive
Branches from the Citadel Woods sprue would go a long way here
Lots of good bits in the Chaos Spawn kit…
The Mutalith/Vortex beast has so many good parts for this too
The current Feculent Gnarlmaw also has loads of good pieces to cut and reassemble too.
The Tyranid Venomthropes may also provide good options for these kinds of shapes, with modification:
And if any of your local hobby places still have any of the Citadel Creeping Vines they’d also be good with some trimming. They’re very flexible, but just note you’ll likely need CA glue to affix these guys, but you can wrap them all over.
I use a lot of Bondene solvent cement for my plastics. If you work slowly you can apply successive coats to an attachment point and basically meld the two surfaces together seamlessly like they’re a single piece, with no need for Green Stuff.
Looks like a fun project!! Even a few 3D modeled features around the frame with some 2D painted elements on a background for depth would look great. Keep us posted!
