I started collecting these minis around 10 years ago, as I was too broke when they were originally released. A slow grow effort of waiting and hunting down second hand minis online as Fantasy had been killed at that point. A few had to be recasts where I couldn’t get hold of originals and I’ve got a few 3rd party minis in the mix, a few AoS minis I’ve co-opted, and I added the Black Orcs when they were released with the Old World.
In the lead up to the Old World being released I started painting them. However life got in the way and I stopped painting, I’m hoping this serves to not only track my progress but encourage me to finish them off in a timely manner (preferably before the end of the decade).
Here is everything I have so far, and when I can/when they’re painted I’ll take some close ups of everything.
These are the ones I’m most happy with how they turned out. Probably the happiest of any minis I’ve ever painted.
They were recasts as I could never find them online at a price I could afford. A friend acquired them for me and I have no idea where he got them from.
The fire was made by….
Primed white / A layer of Casandora yellow / Dry brushed orange / Dry brushed red, thin and covering less than the orange / Dry brush black on the tips
The armour, was….
black base / drubrushed leadbelcher / edged in silver
The base is….
Orange and yellow swirld together and then the edges build up with ripped up corkboard painted black then covered in a mordant earth mixed with sand mix and then lightly brushed with a grey paint
Magma Cannon and Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher. I got some miniature train tracks and painted them to use as tracks under the war machines. The Smoke and fire effects with the cotton wool don’t look too good in a photo but do look much better on the table.
2 units of Hobgrots I’ve nicked from AoS to use as Hobgoblins and I used one to make into a Khan. I’ve got some AoS Snarlfang riders to use as Hobgoblin Wolf Riders and I took a few speare bows to give them to one of the units.
Love what you’ve done with the bolt throwers. I had the same idea. I actually kept the Orc, figured the CD would have enslaved plenty of orcs over the years.
Thanks, I thought of keeping them, but I was trying desperately to get it to fit on a 50mm base. It’s pretty rough squeezing it on and I had to loose the orc at the back and cut out a chunk in the middle just to get it this level.
