Holy smokes! Excellent work, I keep finding new details. I haven’t seen the smouldering barrel innards before, and I love it. Totally going to copy that.
I do believe credit goes to Laketide Miniatures Army Showcase for that idea.
The lightning bolts and fiery transition are masterfully done. All the moreso for painting over a black background!
Magnificent! I wouldn’t have thought it possible to have a unit at once so colorful, i.e. using every prime color to some degree, and yet look so coherent and well balanced. Magical!
Alongside my latest round of bastard sculpting, I’ve finally crossed the finish line on my second unit of bikini bottom chaffe!
Old mage knights and @tjub sculpts pave the way for filling this piecemeal unit with tiny monstars to fit and rank up nicely. The whole Tjub range belongs in 28mm WHFB if you ask me. Who’s ready for TOW? Everyone needs some miniature duck billed lava platypus cows in their life. Call it a Dark Lands Roomba for short. Also featured is a poorly sized Oss head that craved his own miniature tjubling sized bastard.
I wish I could remember who to credit for the beagle crab idea (turns out the SEO on beagle crab is pretty effective)
@Bowser linked me to the Lamarckdromia beagle “fluffy crab”. Obviously couldn’t resist a crab with a mustache. The Tjubling Prawn centaur (prawntaur?) is a DIY, in Tjub’s style best I could muster, that I had planned for an old centaur contest but never finished. (in fact the same centaur contest that spawned the beagle crab)
I’m happy with colors in the animated mud (and definitely not just Muk) that is my take on how seepage from a daemon engine that sprung a leak onto the forge floor would look. The mage knight on the left was a former wood elemental that I repurposed into lava. Poor manticore had his wings looted for some old vampire conversion so he gets duty as a pygmy lamassu. Blood angels sanguinary guard power hammer back makes for a decent Mesopotamian hat top?
Here are the freaks and geeks all ranked up. The Admiralty I spy is not as difficult on this unit as the last. But a fun game might be to try and guess all the different mini manufacturers that are represented.
You’d probably have to scour the older posts to sleuth the niche mini companies hidden in here.
Go forth my mini minions of mayhem. These problematic failed experiments go straight to the front line and us daemonsmiths can only hope they die along with a few enemies.
Straight from Willy Zonka’s Chocolate Factory we have this everlassting gobstopper lobber.
The model definitely needed gap filling and some choice details added to the business end.
Overall quite fun to paint. I think the Tjub Hoover cow and the iconic Chaos toilet fit right in. No doubt this vile creature leaves behind some refuse that needs flushing. For some reason I always feel these asscannons need the @Zanko retinue diorama treatment.
Love it!
Even squeezed a chaos toilet in for extra chaos-ness
How many painted ass cannons are you on now?
Great diorama and great models. The chaos toilet is amazing! As always, it’s bursting with creativity and attention to detail!
Positively nightmarish!
Thanks all! 3 painted bumguns and counting.
“Gap filling”… Ha! That’s d*mn funny talking about this mini!.
Excellent work though, it looks freaking great!
Singing the song of the Red Bard Bumbard to ring in the holiday season.
Pa rum bumbumbum.
I added the eye demons (also red bard games) for some extra flavor to the base. Mop and bucket demon was too good to pass on. Look at him run to clean up after the goblin. A fun little piece to paint up.
Up to 4 asscannons now. 3 painted this year.
Excellent composition all around! But the goblin mooning the enemies definitely takes the cake
Characterful and hilarious.
Time to share the full slate of pictures from my entry to Golden Hat XLII. I’m sure it was extremely difficult to discern my entry given the definitely not my avatar image on the blimp. All base models are from Red Bard Games Dwarf Reinforcements Kickstarter with the added bits from Admiralty and 4A miniatures Castle Hat.
Really enjoyed painting these up even though the converting effort was minimal. Castle hat is just a top tier miniature. Dare I say one of the best minis I own. Not much behind the scheme really. I was going for the color of copper patina roofing.
Here are a couple WIPs of the Castlenaught. I removed the tower topper and crossbow crew as I just couldn’t resist the meme of the legendary castle hat dwarf in a tank that has a face and a castle tower that looks like a hat with Tjublings with castle hats as decor. The portcullimask on the left Tjub is my favorite bit. For anyone intimately familiar with the Tjub range… it was a pain to convert one to be left handed but it had to be done. Eagle eyes will spot another Tjub lava platypus cow on the airship base.
The oxidised copper /lead roofing really made your entry stand out, as well as so much stuff to look at.
Painting those dwarf heads inset into the machines is my nightmare. If you have bendy brushes own up now!
The tower tank was my favorite, followed by the air ship. I agree that the 4a castle hat guy is maybe the best sculpted miniature i have seen too. Perfect setting for him
Awesome GH entry!
Dear God, Reaver, even for your standard this is top notch work! Granted, the base models are absolutely adorable already, but still, smashing entry.
Thanks all for the kind comments! I definitely would give Red Bard a fantastic rating even though the range isn’t explicitly Chaos Dwarf. When I post these on instagram I might ping the guy and see if he’d be interested in sponsoring a contest. I feel like Red Bard could have a fan base here on CDO.
Fortunately on the cyclops the inside dwarf and roof were separate pieces, even though I normally avoid sub-assembly painting like Nurgle’s plague.
All I have is a beat up old drybrush with a 30 degree angle in the ferrule.
Legends of the butcher, Porco Dio, have traveled to the hill country. Weak willed halfling swine would venture from their homesteads to leave offerings in the name of the bloodthirsty Porco Dio. Fear of the legend became worship…
The ravenous cult of Porco Dio emerged from myth. They may be small in stature and in number, but the ruinous powers engender many forms of ingenuity most consider to be… unnatural.
Here I am joining @Zoddtheimmortal on team Chaos Halfling. This Mantic Iron Beast didn’t stay on the grey pile too long. The kit needed some work to fit together well, a common feature of Mantic it seems… but the model is ace and I barely did anything to it beyond adding a few OSM heads.
Painting was a quick affair but I just didn’t quite finish this in time for the Golden Hat. My DIY verdigris tech paint put in some work on the metals.
Not sure if the Halfling cult of Porco Dio will make regular appearances but surely these won’t be the last halflings on this blog. Oh the Maxmini deals, how they sing to me… it’s enough to make a man sick.
