So I’ll take break of some months from my CD display to do my next project.
It’s going to be tyranids Vs Imperial fists display (complementary colours yellow and purple), using the contents of the 40k starter set. With the aim of using every model!
Roughly half of each side will be casualties, as a last stand. I’m going to convert half the termagaunts (living or dead) into hormagaunts.
With the only red being blood! I joke as most of what I’ve painted in recent years is black, red, gold. But we are talking an extreme amount of gore and violence, an obvious cause of death.
I’ll probably order a load of rippers as well

Not an update as such, but my ideas are coming together.
I’m going to have most of the living space marines inside the Aegis defence line, as it gives height and a visual focus for the project
Outside the defences
One terminator (assault cannon) will be cut in half and dead leaning against the dead Psychophage. Who will have it’s neck mostly blown apart. Because it’ll be dead, that’s actually quite a tricky conversion on the head as it needs to be rebuilt in a dead expression (no raised tentacles etc)
Another terminator will be dead with a Leaper blade through its body, but him and the Leaper kneeling down locked in death, with a hole blown through Leaper torso. Another tricky conversion.
For painting, I was reviewing doing the hive fleet behemoth scheme as it’s far more sinister. But I’ll stick with leviathan. However, I want all the models to shade from bright to almost black, including the yellows and whites! Yellows are very tricky at the best of times, and whites are even worse! So that will be far, far harder to pull off even than the conversions. Imagine fighting at dusk with a lightning strike in the distance. Blacks and up to a bright edge on the topmost areas.
And I don’t have an airbrush so no zenithal sprays. Or very limited anyway.
I might even do NMM, given there will be almost no silver metal, and I can limit the golds.

Progress!
Proving challenging figuring out how to spread these around on a larger display, and how I’ll reach all the angles to paint it…
The bottom one the terminator has opened up on the Psychophage point blank in its middle before (or after) being cut in half, so there will be loads of spent ammo shells heaped around. No greenstuff used yet. Notice the teleport beacon that was beautifully shot down into it.

A mock up of the layout.
Not entirely sold on this being the back of the defences, but if I turned the inner defence around you wouldn’t see most of the two main characters

Made some good progress over the weekend.
Everyone is based (even if temporarily) and primed.
The diorama base I’m using a purple base coat for the ground cover to tie in the colours. Trying to go for a bit of a stranger things vibe with the vines/ tentacles

First one pretty much done.
Pretty happy with how he came out, I’ll do all the transfers at the end. I tried blending all the way down to black but it doesn’t work on yellow really.
The lighting doesn’t really show it, but from the right side he’s more or less brown, from the left side yellow. The lighting in the other models obviously depends which way they are facing.
