For my glorious Zharrdron army, I plan to try and make their base scenery look like they’re underground. I have various plans to try and achieve this, from crystals to ore veins to braziers that would provide lighting underground and even to more magical resources they’d be excracting. One idea I have is to give them mine railway tracks. But…
I have 0 clue what sort of scale would work best for this. Is what I have the right idea? Is it too large? Do I need to try and find a smaller size track to make it fit better?
If you’re asking about actual model train scale, I think O scale (1:48th) fits best. I know that more from terrain building than trains, but I do remember too that OO scale was close too. I guess you could use smaller scale like HO (1/87th) for perspective builds. That is tricky stuff though to get right and pull it off. I wouldn’t attempt it for sure, unless you intend a massive display. Hope that helps.
There’s a couple of O-scale Necromunda builds out there that you could check out for scale, I think that’s a good place to start too. HO is probably too small and very recognizable as ‘model railway’ no matter how you dress it up!
I’m very much pro-underground railway… well, both in the N American context and in the Chaos Dwarf industry/society context! I’ve added a bunch of small nods to this in my builds over the years.
I usually come back to the Battle for Skull Pass carts for my small-scale tracks (mining tunnels for slaves, etc). Any Chaos Dwarf-piloted vehicles I’d go wider, like Hellcannon width, like I did with my Daemonic Engine/locomotive … here’s a few examples, right back to some of my earliest stuff where I gave a nod to the mine cart connection on one of the slave unit standards!
