Renegades Update (TOW)

Iron deamon doesn’t need any buffs. I think it’s best unit in the list. Hellcannon needs engineer rerolls to be useful.

And +10 points cost for a skullcracker downgrade is a joke. Maybe it needs more stomps or something.

A base size for the Dreadquake would be nice. To be consistent with the other war machines, I think it should be 50x100mm without the steam carriage, and 50x200 with it.

Dwarfs have very small war machine base sizes (50x50 and 50x75) and Empire are all 50x75, but none are quite as powerful as the Dreadquake so the slightly larger size of 50x100 would align it with the other CD war machines and be more representative of its power. Leave all of the other CD war machines with the same base size regardless of the steam carriage upgrade for simplicity.

I’d like to see k’daai destroyer rules.

You’ll have to wait for Val‘s until he does his Monstrous Renegadum

Oh yes the famous shot and smash mounted on steam carriage dwarfs. I love your work in this unofficial AJ. Thanks for resharing it !

Here’s an off the wall, crazy thought, return of the juggernaut.

Some of what I want to see has already been mentioned by others and Val has indicated he’s working on it or planning it for this or later.

  • The K’Daai Destroyer getting some rules to be playable.
  • The Hellcanon having a rule modification to work with the Infernal Engineer

The more contraversial thing I want is an change in some of the army composition;

  • Hobgoblin Wolf Riders moved to Special
  • Iron Daemon moved to Rare

Easier access to wolf riders would nice.

Chaos dwarf beta renegade pack is to be released very soon !

Can’t wait to check out what will be going on there.

From their last video, we can’t expect too drastic changes in the roster. Few ajustments here and there maybe a rule or two, slight point adjustment.

Something was hinted about black orcs.

My personal little wish is an upgrade of Blackshard Armor. Why is Chaos Armor so much better? That’s an export, for Hashut’s sake, we should have something just as good.

Maybe a +1 bonus against magical attacks? Ward save can be taken against both magical and fire attacks? Something like that

And it’s here ! The WIP rules can be seen here :

Just a reminder, stuff in yellow is very much work in progress.

Overall we’ve got some very nice additions, like chaos dwarf warrior at 7 pts (same statblock as traitor kins)

Blunderers at 10 pts, open order and volley fire after moving, hailshot blunderbuss rules for reroll at 10 models (including volley shots).

IG are now the fireglaive unit.

IS got reduced in cost.

Characters got shuffled around with the castellan now a tweener model that burrow the necrotect ability once per game.

And the warmachine got buffed accross the board (say hello to the indentured ogre allowing two shots a turn from a strenght 8/4 large pieplate dreadquake)

Many other good stuff let me now what you think about the proposed changes !

I really like these changes.

The wolf riders are now so much easier to take. I’ll likely run 8+ in core for any army with these rules.

The Taur’ruk now has a 2+ AS with a shield is fantastic.

I could honestly see myself running 1K pts in characters and 1K pts in core!

the one thing I think that I wish is that the warriors and blunderbuss had a 1pt per model stubborn upgrade. I’m so used to playing stubborn on all my tall hats.

That’s a good idea about the stubborn upgrade.

I like the taskmaster and relentless march rules. They seem appropriately tyrannical for chaos dwarfs.

Yea I think these boosts are really nice on the crunch and fluff department.

I for one I’m happy to see the dreadquake getting some love. Really makes for a an interesting model. Got even a nice bits of self defense with 4 naphta bomb stand and shoot reaction.

I really wish infernal engineer allowed to reroll the leadership check from caged fury from the hellcannon …

Hey guys, it’s been a while. Mostly, because I have been playing lots of beastmen lately but Hashut has called upon me again!
Of course I’ve been grinding my teeth on the new Renegade daft from Val and now had a few days to let it sink. Unfortunately, no time for practice games yet but hopefully next week. I just submitted some feedback to Val and would like to hear your guys thoughts on it as well. It is my personal opinion but I am always curious about what you lads think (especially about the Carriage Hauler Rule^^):

Hey lads! I’ve had some time now to contemplate your new take on the list. Firstly, I’ve already given an answer directly in the youtube comments, but after some thinking, I want to summarize my points better. Here’s my (totally unbiased^^) feedback:

  • Army Composition List: very well thought out.
    – I just do not get the change for the Taur’ruk to come back to Characters. With his statline (eg. only WS 5), he had been a nice addition to the rare section. In the Character slot hardly anyone will take him again. Especially, since stacking Mantle of Stone would not work anymore. If leavin him in Characters, maybe buff his stats and cost (like in other editions)?
    – For Mercenaries, it would totally make fluff sense if we could take Ogre Maneaters.

  • Characters: generally good changes. Still missing an additional layer of customization though (Nasty names!). Would open up a lot of builds and customization.
Small changes in special rules add flavor and don’t seem overpowered.
    – Maybe the Names of the melee chars could need a little switcheroo: Lord: Despot, Middle: Overseer, Hero: Castellan. The Middle melee char has a problem with his LD 9. For most lists, no one will take him as a general to unlock the Ironsworn as core. If you want to keep him LD 9, why not change the restriction for the Ironsworn so something like:
“If your Army includes a Castellan: 0-1 Infernal Ironsworn”
    – Stat Changes on Lord lvl Melee Charakter are ok, since in line with Dwarven Mountain Holds. Of Course, if asked, I would gladly take -1 Ini and +1 Str, but we dont wanna be too greedy :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Special Rules: Thumbs up!

  • Magic Items: There I still see potential. Atm its very lackluster. Potential candidates from the 6th ed. Ravening Hordes: “Obsidian Blade” and “Black Gem of Gnar”. Maybe there is also a way for a new interpretation of the “Dark Mace of Death”
    – Armour: We desperately need another option for a ward save. Lorewise, I get why chorfs shouldn’t have access to Regeneration, but the only currently available general Ward Saves for us are from the Main Rulebook. That’s literally a shame in the face of the genuine inventors of Chaos Armour! So please do something about it.
    – Weapons: Also Dagger of Malice and The Graven Sceptre are so pointless, that no one ever takes them. Maybe have a look at the “Obsidian Blade” form the 6th ed. Ravening Hordes?
    – Banners, Talismans and Enchanted Items are fine, even though I am not sure about the 0-1 restriction for the mantle of stone. But I may be biased here, really having liked the Castellan on Bale Taurus with T8.
    – Arcane Items: MAYBE some form of nice wand to get better at casting - but with a price. Like "May use the Power of the Obsidian Wand of absolute Terror on every cast to add D3 to their casting roll. But so dark is the sorcery in this item that on the roll of a natural double on the Casting Roll, the wizard immediately loses a single Wound and gains +1 Toughness.

  • Lore of Hashut: Curse of Hashut and Storm of Ash are great, Flames of Hashut is kinda lame.

  • Weapons Of Zharr-Naggrund:
    – Darkforged Weapon: I really like the change but 25 pts is a bit steep. Maybe 20 for Characters, 15 for Champions?
    – New Naphta Bombs are nice.

  • Units:
    – Chaos Dwarf Warriors: a nice addition! Just fact they have Shieldwall but no Stubborn holds them a little back. But that’s probably for the better in terms of external balance.
    – Blunderbuss Decimators: Very nice idea to also split them apart again! Dunno, they need testing. With neither Stubborn nor Shieldwall they are in big risk of just being taken out by Cav and Dragons.

Why the different wording?
The entire unit may take any of the following:
Great weapons +2 points per model
Shields +1 point per model
vs
The entire unit may take
Great weapons +2 points per model
Shields +1 point per model
between the two units? Does it mean the same? Are both units able to field GW and Shield if they like? Does this also count for Bull Centaur Renders?

– Infernal Guard: As already said in the Youtube comment, I would like the change to BS 4 on them best. That would differentiate the unit. Also, why not Blunderbusses as well? Too strong then with BS 4, I guess.
– Infernal Ironsworn look way better with their new points cost. Glad you did’n touch them and really looking forward to fielding them with a castellan inside!
– K’daai Fireborn look interesting now. Finally an incentive to print some interesting new models.
– Bull Centaur Renders: Really nice changes - they just needed that lil extra oomph!
– Iron Demon: Yeah, the ol’ Carriage Hauler problem… Any solutions yet? My proposal would look sth like:
“During the Movement phase, up to two friendly war machines with the ‘Steam Carriage’ upgrade that are completely within this model’s rear arc and within 8” of its base at the beginning of the phase can be moved when this model moves. These war machines must finish their movement completely within this model’s rear arc and within 8" of its base and may each only move up to the same amount of inches the Iron Demon has moved. Unless this model moves using the Lumbering Destruction special rule, these war machines are not considered to have moved this turn. This rule cannot be used in a turn where the Iron Demon charges." → should fix most issues and not change too much of the OG wording.

With “In addition, and unlike other chariots, this model treats low linear obstacles as open terrain rather than as impassable terrain.” I would add “This special rule also counts against effect that simulates a low linear obstacle, like the Spell Earthen Ramparts or the Dig In! Special rule. The Iron Demon simply does not care about a wall of dirt.”

Skullcracker: nice!

– The Great Tauruses: I kinda like them as they are. Giving the Great Taurus 360° would cause a lot of uproar and therefore I wouldn’t do it. If done, it should be toned down in strength
– Lammasu: I really like him. Of course, he could be the one to give 360° but then the crowd would tear you apart^^ Maybe the mentioned boost to Toughness would be enough? He also historically had the option to be played without a rider and be a flying mage on his own…

–Warmachines: nice changes, nearly all on the spot. Also dunno what to do with Magma cannons… Maybe when the Steam Carriage rule gets more clear then these automatically see more play?

All in all very well done sir and everyone that helped in the process.

Cheers from Austria,
“Osboan”

Cheers mate, yeah I agree with a lot of points. For the Carriage Hauler I basically suggested the same, just using the Dragged Along rule. Same outcome. Comments are on our Discord, so I won’t repeat them all here.

And just FYI: If you’re up for house rules, you’ll find all those old Chaos Dwarf magic items (and then some) in my Arcane Journal: Chaos Dwarfs

Yeah, I already know your own Arcane Journal. Good Job btw! You guys have set up a discord with Val?
