I’ve really found Sneaky Gitz to be great value and fun to play on the board. So I’m adding some more to the army (currently using Hobgrot Slittaz). I think the Febelzel sculpts are my favourite though. They are painted to match my army’s current color scheme. I plan on painting more of these and Slittaz. Maybe I’ll be able to run a meme list in the future. Who knows!
Gits are fun. Especially in smaller games! Do You ambush them? I think best way to ambush them is to ambush 3 units at once. When I use 1 unit I just use it to screen my infantry.
I would say I mainly use them as screeners in skirmish formation. Because unlike normal hobgoblins, when they flee or fall to back in good order due to heavy casualties they don’t cause a leadership check because they’re skirmishes. And of course if they flee from combat they’re Levies.
I will sometimes ambush when I don’t want them to count as a drop and I want the +1 for first turn or if there’s some easy war machines I think I can kill on Turn 3 (sometimes you can get lucky and kill on Turn 2 if you roll enough 6s to wound after moving). But you’re right if you have 3 or more units ambushing you’re very likely to get at least 1 showing up on Turn 2, I should try that.
They are also great at protecting war machines and the back lines because we don’t have that many 360 charge arc models.
They cause no Ld checks because they are Levies. Skirmishers cause panic an normal. Yes. They are also evasive and can sometimes hide behind Your own Infernal Guard to waste a round of shooting from an enemy unit.
When all 3 arrive at once You have 60 shots on BS4 lol I did one-shot a cannon last game. 20 shots, 14ish hits, 3 “6” and done.
In terms of panic, Levies says: “Therefore, units that do not have this special rule are not required to make a Panic test when a friendly unit of Levies Breaks and flees from combat.” So if they are destroyed, or run through a unit because they panic to heavy casualties, this will still cause panic check on a non-Levies unit. However skirmishers “do not cause panic in formed friendly units of any type (be they Close Order, Open Order and so on) that they themselves flee through.” So the only way a Sneaky Git unit can cause a leadership check on a unit of Infernal Guard, for example, when they are in Skirmish formation is if “a unit with a Unit Strength of 5 or more is destroyed, all friendly units within 6” must immediately make a Panic test." That’s my reading of the rules anyways.
That is a very good observation and, errr, pretty infuriating, actually! I was dead sure levies just don’t cause panic in none levies unit period.
If anything, a unit of hobgoblins fleeing through a unit in Infernal Guard should have to take those peril checks you take when fleeing through an enemy unit to see if the Chaos Dwarfs don’t murder them, but in no way should that panic the Chaos Dwarfs. I demand Peasantry rule like Bretonnia.
It does, however, make the Overseer’s Sigil much much better, as it now has significantly less downsides than I thought.
yes that’s true. Although I don’t think I’ve ever taken the banner in any of my games?? The new renegade list could have a flying BSB on a great Taurus with this banner.
But what you said made me realize one more thing: if the main risk from sneaky gitz in terms of panic checks is being outright destroyed, then have evasive is a nice synergy if they’re in front of a unit you want to shield. Since if they are targeted by say a magic missile think could wipe them out they can FBIGO, cause the magic missile to be useless and not cause any panic checks when they fall through your unit.
I really dislike the renegade pack. It was like Slapchop. Created to increase views by contant creators and work well with YT algorithm. We will have groups using it and those not using it. Sure Tauruk would be fun without BC. Or Ironsworn in core. Still this should be done by GW. Maby with 2nd edition next year?
We had generals on Tauruses in 1994. I just believe it would be NASTY in current rules. Lvl on Taurus is 475ish points. Castellan would be 70 points cheaper AND better for the job. This would be wild.
Yes, using Skirmishing Sneaky Gitz this way is the right idea. And it really annoys me that you cannot have a unit of Cutthroats screen your Infernal Guard and then safely flee through the IG when charged. Really annoying that I misread that rule. But IDK, somehow I think a lot of people have misread that…
(RAW Flee as a charge reaction is not breaking and fleeing, so Levies doesn’t come into play here I guess? Aaaargh, nothing makes sense. So the non-levies unit expects the Levies to be cowards so they don’t care if they break from combat, but when they flee because too many have died to arrows or they get destroyed in combat somehow that’s a problem? Pretty arbitrary)
I think it’s completely valid not to like fanmade comp lists. I am also always hesitant about them. In this particular example, I think the changes in the pack are indeed very mild. Castellan on Bale Taurus would be a pretty good model, aye. He would also be 20 pts more expensive than a Black Orc Warboss on Wyvern. He will not bring anything to the game which isn’t already there.
Also, a Castellan on Bale can get the T9, take a charmed shielf and have a 3+ and once-per-game 5+. At T9 he can’t be wounded by S3 and probably only wounded on a 6+ by a dragon and his mount which is crazy (poison attacks are still the weekness though).
True, I think giving them a musician is always worth it because rallying on a 6+ moves their chances of rallying from ~27% to ~41% (and same odds increase for helping with the “Enemy Sighted” march block.
This one is more ambiguous. RAW I take it to mean that if Levies run through a unit b/c of this reaction they cause a panic check (but again not if they are skimishers). However, I think you could say RAI Levies should apply to both breaks from combat and flees from a charge applies to this, and I would probably play it this way in a Tournament but confirm with my opponent.
I actually asked this question on this forum, and I am under the impression people’s understanding is that a poisoned attack that rolls a 6+ of any strength is always a wound. But if this is not the case then Praise Hashut we will be indistructable!!! : )
