StudiousAuroch’s blog - Approaching at great speed

I’ve known about Chaos Dwarfs for what feels like forever. They were this looming thing that existed in the long ago, in how to build wargames terrain books, and the most disused corners of game stores. But the vibes were immaculate and they wormed into my heart like beardy parasites.

Fast forward to this year where the local group is building 500 pt Foray armies and I’m pulled into the melee with a few regiments of Longsnout orcs. Someone off-handed remarks that the entire chaos dwarf line has been recreated in one form or another.

After some sleuthing I discover Fabelzel and this forum and now the orcs are forgotten and it’s terrible little men all the way down. I couldn’t be happier.

Thank you! Everything clicked for the Great Taurus, I’m fighting through color schemes for infernal guard now.

Hated the yellow. I didn’t have good yellow. Hopefully fixed that now. Proceeding with this!

Been a bit slowing going as the summer starts to wind down, but I did manage to paint another pair of blunderbuss gunners, including the unit champion! I realized all my red paints were either on the orange or purple ends of color spectrum so I snagged a few truer tones to get that incandescent blood-red we know and love.

Finished the unit of blunderbusses! These were a lot of fun and I definitely had my process nailed down by the last few models.

Next up, fabelzel infernal guard with great weapons.

Thoroughly distracted kitbashing an iron daemon from Trent Holbrook’s GSC limo model.

Look very nice and fits the proportions of the fabelzel sculpts well

Found an STL of the old epic cannon of khorne, tweaked it for chorf use by adding a smokestack, tweaking the face, and adding the Hashut rune to the hubcaps. I’ll use it as an iron daemon or some artillery in TOW.

Mostly finished a unit of internal guard with great weapons! Just a little base painting left.

First of three of Brawn’s noble half-bulls. Really love these models. I fooled around with several techniques for getting that much skin to look nice before falling back on sponging on a few colors and then applying successive washes to get a natural feel. What do you guys do for big patches of skin?
