I brought a Renegade list with the classic chorf fliers and a hunking unit of ironsworn with a prophet ons foots inside. Additionally I decided to try out the magma cannon on steam carriage, which surprisingly put in some serious work!

Here follows my brother’s report, with some notes from me, if any.

I of course planned to put my magma cannon against the big unit, the lamassu would do some picking off of smaller units before joining the central fray. Hobos rushed to take objectives in the first turn.

The lamassu did indeed ā€œget froggedā€ and it was awful  A lvl 1 daemonsmith on lamassu with minimal gear is still 200+ points. The lamassu continues to disappoint - but it’s so cool! Steed of shadows proved incredibly useful for the ironsworn.

Yeah, if I’d have gotten vessel and vigour off, I’d have committed to charging the big unit, but as it stood, I elected to give them the proverbial slip.

The magma cannon absolutely lays waste to the War dancer troupe. Impressive! The remaining hero throws himself to his death underneath the merciless treads of the iron daemon.

I finish off the wild riders on the flank. I’m satisfied with the way I took the point off their sting.

Finally I commit to engage the burned and shot up eternal guard unit. They are decimated by the iron daemon and huffed up ironsworn, despite their various buffs.

I lose a lot of points here in the final round. Unfortunately I roll an 11 on my bully castellan’s break test, and low on the flee. As mentioned, that allows the wood elf stag to mop up both bull and weakened iron daemon in rapid succession. Unfortunate.

:index_pointing_up: My brother’s thoughts. In the end the chorfs came out on top, looking quite like the victors, and having scored many objective points as opposed to the wood elves’ 0.

I’ll drop the lamassu and castellan from this list, and replace them with infernal guard and a blorc warboss, I think. Not having blorc infantry wasn’t a huge loss, when thinking about it.

Bonus!:

I dug out my Skaven a week ago, and had a close game against Bretonnians, which was crazy

I played renegade Skaven, which allowed me to take 3x3 units of jezzails instead of 1x9, which was nice.

The terrain was in my favour, and giant rats and swarms managed to steal first charge. I had some clutch castings of warp lightning and an elemental spirit that blocked a pegasus at a crucial moment as well. Alas, someone must have bribed the warlock engineer to not properly cover the grey seer’s most prudent retreat from the Bretonnian duke, and an armorer had surely sabotaged the chieftains gear, so as to not resist a fireball in round 6 :see_no_evil_monkey: A skaven victory was snatched from their worthy paws by those incidents at the final bell. It went well up until then, however. Super fun game

Many thanks for your battle reports ! A bit bold of your brother to play eternal guards as a death star, everytime I see them on the field or read about them in BR, they are just bad. Easily killed by shots, lacking punch in combat, overall squeashy, it is just a wood anvil. Worst of all they are sooo expensive, just walking VPs …

Do you think a Black orc Warboss on Wyvern would have done a better job than Cast on taurus ? And if yes why so ?

The theme of this game was to try out things that you otherwise wouldn’t, in a competitive setting with ā€œstakesā€ :meat_on_bone:

You know, I quite lean towards the warboss on boar myself. The wyvern is just so bad, it’s essentially just an expensive flying carriage for the boss. Awful tail attack, otherwise two low ws attacks, stomps with no ap - not a behemoth, so get’s AP’d by other behemoths. The boar however, gives +1 armour, so you can wield a GW in CC and get 2+ AS, along with 5+ regen from the pants. Sick. You get 360° arc of vision, which is arguably equal to, or better, than the flight provided by the wyvern. And it’s cheap! You can invest in other stuff. You can also stick him in with your black orcs so they can benefit from his Waaagh! ability. Nice bit of versatility there.

The castellan suffers from having low WS compared to other warrior lords, and the bull is an ok behemoth, but not the greatest by any means. A sorcerer will be able to vessel it up and cast daemonic familiars, which increases their combined killing power immensely.

Those are my thoughts, at least

Warboss on flying carpet is also an option, I suppose  Warboss on imaginary pegasus.
