[TOW] Darbakh’s Employment Agency

I’m still here, still alive, and still setting deadlines to finish painting which come and go like the wind. Thanks to @Stumpy , I’ve finally gotten off my soot-covered behind and delved into the art of army design for the Old World. I’m a big fan of roleplaying and lore, so every list in this thread will be based on the aesthetic of my ever-present champion mini organizing work camps for the noble and entirely ethical fires of industry in the Dark Lands.

It goes without saying that critique is very much welcome. I have takes on the list which are just as controversial as everyone else’s, but I won’t benefit from the echo chamber of my own head.

Without further ado, I present the 2,000 point version of this list. I have slim pickings with the largest wargaming store an hour from my home and the closest one brand new and full of young children, so I hope to have different point versions available to suit any occasion.

Hey hey, welcome back! I like your list, you managed to squeeze quite a bit of good stuff in there! A bit to unpack:

I’d consider whether magic is vital enough to justify the rod and scroll on your prophet. Miscasts are now quite forgiving, and can potentially be a net benefit for your prophet, if he fails (!) his toughness test. The dispel scroll isn’t crucial by any means.

Maybe set him up with some defensive gear instead? Mantle of Stone and 5+ ward amulet springs to mind.

Your BSB is a bit vulnerable to assassination, and then bye bye 65pts magic standard - consider putting the Lamassu’s beard on the ironsworn instead. A quick and dirty BSB build is great weapon + armour of silvered steel.

Big boss on chariot - solid! Interesting shield, I’d like to try it. Oh! A boar! Less solid, then

Your Khan has spent points on a spear and a magic weapon, he will never get to use the spear (unless maybe fighting a Lamassu ). Consider kitting him out with ruby ring or breath og hashut instead of the flaming weapon (flaming attacks are nowhere near as useful as previously)

Putting stubborn and veteran on the black orcs is probably overkill for such a small unit. The choppa special rule is nice in conjunction with additional hand weapons, but I’d strongly suggest putting some great weapons in there as well. They are usually the only ones that really cut into the enemy (especially elite stuff).

Hobgoblins should imo only ever be taken in naked units of 10. With bows. They do nothing for you except die.

Ironsworn with ashen banner. Solid. Remember ashen banner doesn’t protect you from stand and shoots  I’d put great weapons on them as well, so they have some versatility if fighting bigger things.

The Iron Daemon needs to have Hellbound  6+ ward, magical attacks, terror, an artillery re-roll, all nice things. And no drawback cause of the no misfire table situation.

I haven’t tried sneaky gits. They may do ok.

Wolf riders: Shortbows cost a point. Eh, maybe worth it, probably not. Then again, a single wound of 8pts or more will win the points back.

Maybe building on a few things Vacationist said (and which I agree with):

  • That Black Orc Bigboss is on a War Boar, not a chariot, right? I’m not really sold on that, he cannot effectively join a unit. I mean he can, but he’ll lose on a few things which make cav good. Then again he’ll still enjoy that +1 Armour Save, so maybe it’s fine as it is? But he can be shot right out of that unit since he’s not of the same troop type. Having him be infantry maybe is the way to go…
  • Your two Fireglaive units are supposed to be Detachments to the Ironsworn, yes? Unfortunately they are too large, Detachments can only be half (rounding down) the model count of the regimental unit

Thank you for the comments, guys - these are the small details which I missed, in part, because I haven’t gotten to play a match yet. I do have the minis, but the goal is still this summer to get them painted.

I’ve adjusted the list below for further perusal. I couldn’t quite find a way to work in the boar chariot, so I stuck the big boss into the blorc block. Sadly, we had to outsource our HR department, but I suppose the cutthroats could adopt that role.

This is looking really damn good now.

Would be awesome if Bazherak’s armor would result in magic resistance (+5), but alas MR doesn’t stack, so it’s 50pts for +1 armour save. Better take mask of the furnace or better yet the armor of silvered steel.

The blunderbuss guys should probably have shields for added versatility. It’s a lot of points for maybe two rounds of shooting s3 shots.

It’s good to see a post with your name on it, Ihsan.

This is my favourite army concept in a long time. Endless opportunities for employment await!

Employment is a great concept we got from TW:W3, and I’m here to keep all of our slave pens recruitment camps fully staffed.

In honor of that, I’ve also built armies of different sizes. The 2,000 pointer seems to be the most poplar at tournaments, but I’ve also designed a 1,000 pointer in case those in my locale have fewer models. I present below the 1,000 point employment agency - and this one even preserves our HR department!

For everyone’se perusal and critique:
