Just found this whole discussion about this:

I tend to spread out the crew and increase the unit footprint that way. That and being generous with what hits and all that. Same principle with LOS to the dreadquake. But I can see why that does not work in serious play, but I only play casually.

So I guess 50 x 100 or 60 x 100 mm is the consensus.
