Bit of a lull in the action here. Truth be told, my Chaos Dwarf Army is pretty much complete at this point. My last project was getting the wyvern boss ready for the club championship back in September (we placed 7/9, but tbf the competition was stiff, even on the lower tables).
I decided to try and sculpt the wyvern myself, cause I happened to have a single left plastic dragon wing, and as fate would have it, my friend had a single right one that I could have.
I started by making a sort of armature:
Then I put on some self hardening clay to beef it up, cause I’m not made of green stuff:
I then proceeded to do some green stuff work. A little at a time. And I quickly realized that my wyvern would be intellectually challenged :
Body:
At first I’d thought to sculpt the whole thing, but I remembered I had two dismembered dragon feet lying around, and the ones I’d sculpted were wonky as all hell. I brought dishonor to myself by bringing an unfinished model to a game at this point, and he of course proceeded to lose a foot and wriggle around helplessly on the table:
Got the wings on there and solidified the footsies. Also used some sprue to make some wyvern claws on the wings that I later switched out for some toy dinosaur claws:
At this point I stalled and in the end had like 1½ days to base and paint, so this was the end result:
And that’s it. I had a nice shield with a banner pole and an old chaos warrior standard skull that I wanted to use as a back banner, but it got lost and those were like the perfect bits, so that bummed me out.
The final touches would be a different ogre loader, but I’m probably not gonna get around to it, and then I managed to snag another old metal horned black orc, so I won’t have to use an empty base to get to 18.
My next proj is a Tzeentchian daemon host, and I hope to share my progress on here, if you will have me. Where this army project was an exercise in NMM and a limited palette, the next one will be in blending and highlighting and a literal rainbow of colours Looking forward to it.
