[TOW] If you run a Khan on Wolf does he attach to a wolf rider squad?

New player and confused on list building.

  • Do people take a musician and standard bearer on a 5 man unit of wolf riders?
  • If I bring a khan on wolf, do I add him to four wolf riders or does he make the unit a 6 man unit?

I always take full command. Champion for challenging and the extra attack, but more importantly standard bearer for +1 CR, and even more importantly the musician, to get +1 to rally. These boys often move around close to the battlefield edge, so you really want to pass that rally test.

You need at least five wolf riders, so six total if the Khan joins.

Standard bearer can be tricky. Yes, that +1CR can be crucial, but it’s just as likely that you have to throw the unit away in a hopeless charge / bait, and then it’s 50 points wasted.

Personally I run 5 with champion. Don’t take a standard as they will all die at some point. I sometimes skip the musician and sometimes I don’t. 2k points skip it plus all other musicians in the army. 2250 or 2500 always taking musicians.

Probably worth noting that I generally always run the khan separately amd use him and unit tag teaming. Easiest way to lose a Khan is panic test on magic missile or shooting.

I like to run my light cav with a champion and a musician. I do it on Empire list and I do it on wolfies.

I like the khan with reserve move so in the unit for me.

If this unit it trying to kill anything substantial you’re probably doing it wrong. Warmachines, archers, gunners, maybe straggling units.

Take Feigned Flight over a musician.

Banner adds like 50% more victory points for this unit ai wouldn’t.

Really nice to sit these behind scary units and pepper them. Then, if they FBIGO from combat or terror or casualties, this unit can kill models on a 4+ which is probably better than it’ll get with those short bows..
