[TOW] Let's get competitive

With the new changes monstrous cavalry can only get to a 3+ so the full plate + armoured hide + shield unfortunately makes 1 pip of armour useless, the 2MR and immune to psych is nice but he already causes fear and is LD 9 so that helps a bit if you’re running into terror targets, 2 lodestones would be a tad cheaper but you lose the immune, up to you man not a bad option at all

Maybe dumb question but, arent Infernal Ironsworn a SPECIAL choice?

This is out of the renegade list, were you are allowed 0-1 of ironsworns as core unit so long as you have a Castellan as your general.

Yep, just as PawocK said (also can’t have any black orcs in the list) - probably the most popular English speaking podcasters made some “home brew” changes to the legacy armies to try and bring them into a more playable state and to help encourage people with those armies to continue playing as there will be updates for them even though GW won’t touch them
It’s taken off in Australia (nsw at least) with most tournaments using it and mountain miniatures on YouTube use it in all of their games as well
It’s got some nice changes in it like you can mount your characters on on the Taurus - old world builder also has a drop down if you make a new list with all of the changes!

Hi @Snortingmilo actually monstrous cav can have a 2+. Form the faq:

Infantry’ or ‘cavalry’ can never have an armour value better than 2+.

so actually tauruk isn’t a bad choice for it, but it is pricey. The mr2 is best when he joins a unit to give them the MR, but then you can’t use renegades as he isn’t a character.

At the price of the points I’m having difficulty choosing between a Chaos Giant or the Bull Centaur Taur’ruk. I think the Taur’ruk overall has a little more flexibility for having different load outs available, maybe the following may work better?

223 - Bull Centaur Taur’ruk, Shield, Darkforged Weapon, Healing Potion, Talisman Of Protection

Thanks for claryfing. So it’s NOT official, for what it means for The Old World. Interesting take but in my gaming group we stick to the"official" rules

Oh crap you’re spot on! The “monstrous” part doesn’t make him a monster - my mistake, thank you for the clarification

I like the Taur’ruk over the giant personally, fast moving and hard hitting - I do find myself defaulting to a great weapon though just incase he has to tussle with some stronger opponents unit - can’t go past a +2 S and -2 AP for 4 points but rolling on the dark forge slot machine at the start of the game is always fun!

Musician in Sneaky Gits is super handy. I think I take one for wolf riders too. For a cost of 2 hobgoblins… How useful it is for You guys?

Nice list man! Lots of variety, a quick change could be losing the hellshard and 1 hobgob but the hellshard is a fun little trick, maybe dropping one bolt thrower and adding another iron guard and 1 hobgob (I think that fits) also out of curiosity why don’t you put light armour on the hobgoblins? 4+ in combat with parry for 4 points is a bargain imo

Hobbgoblins would be 4+ if they had shields and I use bows myself. I consider painting another 30 with hand weapon and shields for some nice resilience in combat but I use bows for now.

Hellshard feels so nice… But maby that is the way…

Bolt throwers are more reliable when taken as trio.

Hi @MiSiO , I really like this list! It’s very similar to lists I have run ahah : p

here are some tiny suggestions just to give some feedback:

  • do you want a standard bearer on the cutthroats given the risk of capture?
  • musician in the wolfies is still not a bad idea, a little less optimal because of feigned flight but still useful for march blocks, but if you want to save points here you could axe it
  • I prefer the khan with biting blade and charmed shield (with obsidian vambraces of course) to leverage his high I5 and give him magical attacks and a bit more survivability. Plus S7 might be a bit overkill for the Khan since he’s probably not fighting monsters with only light armor whereas the biting blade lets him take on Calvary or medium strength things. But that’s just my preference!
  • giving the bahaal armor of meteoric iron makes him more survivable when you’re going with great weapons
  • You could save points by taking out one bolt thrower? I really like them, and 3 is better than 2, but 2 is also a good amount because you can cover both flanks. Marginal value of the 3rd is less than the 2nd IMO.

Banner on hobgoblins - True. I rarely loose it but it happens. I kept if but after 1,5 I can not put Khan on a wolf in a unit safely for Ld10 and solid punch …

One less BT could save up points for some items for Turuk! For sure. I was also thinking +1T or healing potion even.

I do like Vambraces for throwing weapons (2 shots with S5) and MR(1) is useful but I like Your setup as well.

To be clear, you’d still keep the OV on the Khan to give him those S5 throwing weapons (I love this load out too), my suggestion was to have a biting blade instead of a great weapon for when/if he charges.

i think your tauruk is a good, but the bahaal champion could use some help with the armor of meteoric iron rather than the tauruk.

Oh, unit champion… Interesting. I would have to keep track which models attack him directly.

Just because he’s the one with the extra attack and (usually) the last model to go. When I’ve played with Bull Centaurs I usually find that either the unit gets wiped or the Bahaal is the last one standing. It also means the opponent has to think twice against directing attacks against him. Whereas when they have the same loadout he’s more attractive to attack.

There is one more options. To cut Hellbound on Iron Daemon. It cost almost as much as a bolt thrower.

With 3 I will be able to shoot those chaos spawns…

Charmed Shield. I was thinking BSB would like one too. Maby even morę than Khan.

EDIT

Ok. I have sent my list for another round. Went for Meteoric Iron armour, 2 bolt throwers and Hellbound. I am really interested how it goes. I am most interested in Tauruk. I will use him in Bull Centaurs OR as a single piece depending on my next opponent.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes!
