As a High Elf player, I would try placing the Sisters in a forest and controlling the board from there within 30 inches. You have to be very careful of them. They are evasive and immune to psychology, and they don’t get a penalty for cover when they fire back. If you manage to shoot on them, you might get corresponding penalties for skirmishers and forest.
That is a problem. They can evade short range shooting. I guess the key thing is to shorten the distance with the whole army. Fly(12) on IG to shoot turn 2, Bull centaurs should also move 14… Problem is there are chariots to counter faster movement.
I’m really interested to know how you are going to tackle this challenging army on the shooting departement.
Maybe get some magic missiles to catch the sisters ?
Mmm yah good point even if you get to within 1” of them they will evasive and you’ll hit on 6s with long range and skirmisher penalty. It’s a tricky list.
@MiSiO only thing I’m not sure how to deal with here is the dragon. One strategy is to use elementalism and earthen ramparts so it effectively can’t charge the unit you put it on but that will need a lvl3 and a big points investment, and maybe isn’t worth it. For the Sisters, maybe if you swap one bolt thrower and gitz you can get a deathshrieker and use the 5” template to try to wipe them?
I can always switch to a 1250 format when we Play as IT is the standard format. He Has the same but with less of everything and no dragon. Lol
Good thing in my 2k list od Lammasu banner for extra 33% saved wounds.
I find the High Elf list much stronger than yours. But that’s what makes it interesting.
You might have big problems with your magic. If the High Elf player with the Loremasters chooses “Drain Magic,” it will be difficult for you to even cast a spell (Remains in Play spells).
The dragon is a bit lonely. The High Elf player doesn’t have a second fast unit that can accompany him in close combat and protect him from a challenge. The dragon can’t attack your Infernal Guard alone (stand and shoot + challenge).
With two Deathshrikers (large templates) and a tank, you could try to force it to come to you.
But with the Bolt Throwers, you might only be able to threaten its chariots.
You probably arent going to kill the dragon. Id be focusing on the foot troops especially those swordmasters. Tge bolt throwers on the sky cutters. More magic missiles would be very helpful in fighting the elves on your terms. Goodluck!
This is a 1250 alternative I could play against instead.

We use nes scanarios so the one adventage I might have is objectives. I have more units to split. 2k elves are more limited .
What are people thoughts on running metric tonne of Hobgoblins? Like 3 or 4 units of 30 or some nonsense like that, plonk an Overseer’s Sigil and then you have blobs of Ld10 chaff tar-pitting objectives or blocking monsters and heroes… Feasible? Mad? Delectable?
I expect it is excellent but I don’t have enough painted to try it. I might try it on warhall at some point
It is a good idea. With bows or even with light armour and shield. You can also Take Khans in those for Ld10 and some more punch.
I’d concurs, as a part time imperial player, I’m really jealous the cheap hobgobos running around at 4 pts compared to absolutely overpriced state troopers.
Get your printer running and print a metric ton of fabz …
Honestly… This is my next idea. To print and paint sea of Febelzel’s hobgoblins.
Knowing your painting skill it is going to look absolutely glorious on the battlefield and good returns gameplay wise love myself a bit of hordehammer !
Thanks! I have to finish my Sneaky Gits and Tauruk (regular FW bull but different colours).
The lists I’ve seen on old world ranking that made top three or even won events/tournaments usually use large numbers of hobgoblins. Even the basic ones with swords, shields and maybe light armour, in big units of 30 or more, from what i remember no overseer sigil as they are already at ld9 or 10 with the khan (but it’s not a bad idea anyway, especially for the compulsory unit of infernal guard!).
I mean at 4 pts you have the profile of a standard human, often with better Ld, warband and horde and backstabber wich makes them absolutely deadly on the flanks. In combat it’s a 4+ save at 4 points. 4!
Round up the rest with iron demons and a beatstick black orc on wyvern and that’s a pretty solid army there
I love my units of 40 hobbos ![]()
Sneaky gits are useful too. I always want so much more than i can get into the list
With the MPG bringing in objectives they are a great anvil to stay put and get charged while you line up some devastating flank charges of your own! With the Tau’ruk being a monstrous cav lone character he gets to move like a skirmisher + swiftstride those exposed flanks/rears are a juicy target
Didnt think this kinda list works well anymore with 1.5 and MPG?
Im yet to play CD. Still mustering my models ![]()
I didn’t play CD pre 1.5 but I feel the changes in 1.5 has brought infantry to a place where you actually see them on the battlefield (getting objectives, fighting in the second rank, parry, outnumber giving +1 CR, close order needing +10 unit strength and the changes to challenges) if a dragon charges a unit of 30 hobs and you challenge it out it’s nearly guaranteed that you’ll win on static combat res alone and all it takes if for your opponent to fail the roll because they’d be double outnumbered and would break instead of FBIGO - if they roll low on the flee and you roll high your 140 point block has just taken 400+ points ![]()
