[TOW] Running a list of just hobgoblins (for fun)

I’m sure I’m not the only one who had the idea of goofing around with just running hobgoblins. I threw together a 1250 point list to see what it would look like and doubt I would eve run it (I don’t even have 100+ hobgobs to field haha…like I said, its just for fun). Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

I mean sure, why not? (just to mention it here, technically a unit of Infernal Guard is mandatory.)

Then again - why not play Orcs & Goblins in the first place?

Well technicalities aside  I was just seeing what I could build for the points cost.
I can’t lower myself to play Orcs & Goblins…someone has to oversee the prisoners with jobs.

Hah, this crossed my mind today as well… :stuck_out_tongue:

You could write it up as a fan-made “Hobgoblin tribe Army of Infamy”. Get rid of the 1+ Infernal Guard thing, maybe add another kind of character, make a usable list out of it.

That’s a great idea. A magic hero focused on elementalism, shamanism, or animism to stay with the tribal feel could work.

Definitely a good option here. I’d do away with the Black Orcs with being a choice in the army list and instead just list Orcs & Goblins as allies so you can pull up to 25% of your points from that army book. In practice this would still give access to Black Orcs, but be a bit cleaner.

In a Hobgoblin army list I’d definitely include Oglah Khan’s Wolfboyz as a 0-1 rare choice (per army, not per 1000 pts). Ghazak Khan as an optional character/general is an easy pick as well. They’d just need a few special rules updates, but they’re all already pretty close to something useable in TOW.

Updating the Special/Rare choices to include the old Hobgoblin Rocket Team wouldn’t go amiss either!

… I mean… not that I’ve been thinking much about this or anything

How do you plan to use the 75 sneaky gits?
I saw tgem an units of 10 ambushing skirmishers. Wondering if i missed something?

Oh there’s no plan at all, it’s just something fun I’d like to see played. The thought of ambushing with that many Sneaky Gits from the opponent’s edge and waiting for the panic it caused would be worth the points sink. I’d guess targeting their ranged or siege engines would be a priority target if a hero wasn’t nearby.

Hobgoblins are just so dang cheap its hard not to want to create a horde of back-stabbiness.

Logically the opponent could just throw something within 8 inches of their table edge and two corners to deny the ambush but what’s the fun in that.

Ah, an army of Hashut’s most favored and beloved, the noble Hobgoblin
Lest we not forget that the Hobgoblins single-handedly saved the CDs from extinction…so an army list of them is befitting of their righteous cause of saving the CDs butt.
Well, I’ll slink back to the alleyway of lurking now

@Fuggit_Khan I’m reading this as David Attenborough in my head.

I’ve played this all hobgoblin list three times now. For my Sorcerer Prophet I use the hobgoblin wizard from the Death Commandos. For my required Chaos Dwarves I use Throgs Despoilers. And the bull centaurs are throgs I’ve mounted on rhinox.

Interesting!

How do you find that the flying carpet prophet does? Is it viable? Does he get shot down? What kind of role does he play?

How have your bulltaurs performed?

The Prophet is almost a tax really, but I started with running him in the dwarves and had line of sight issues. The dream is to cast the frenzy hatred spell on wolf riders, and in three games it hasn’t happened yet… but the carpet let’s him skulk behind dwarves and keep 360 los, hopefully creating more opportunities.

In two games the bull centaurs have been excellent. Really devastating when they charge. In another they got blenderized by a vampire with the ogre blade. I like them enough I have another scrap launcher rhinox coming so I can make another hobgoblin bull centaur and run a hero and a unit. In my actual chaos dwarf list I plan to run two units of four centaurs.
