[Archive] [01-23-2012] Beezharr's Obnoxious Host - Infernal Guard with Blunderbuss

The Besieger:

The lammasu conversion is super

Great work

BeeZharr:

@Xander and @Tjub below are some more angles of the Lumassu taken on my proper camera. I apologise I haven’t had chance to crop, or lighten them, plus I only have cream paper left in my printer (the result of getting married) -

@Xander the chaos rider bits are great, I’m going to try and mix them with some Infernal Guard to make characters and command.

@ryanamandaanna I have no idea how big the Raging Heroes head is, so I couldn’t tell you, but the original Lumassu head is a near perfect fit if you can use that as a reference?

@Da Crusha I did consider using the manticore wings, but I wanted to keep the feel of the classic model and just try and bring it into line with the newer stuff, so I kept the old ones as more of a homage to the original. I consider trying to build hoofs for the back legs, but my modelling skills are not up to that at the moment.

@horlely thank you!

Coopervisor:

Must say I do like that Lammasu conversion. I think i’d be tempted to use the manticore wings, so it’s a shame you need to buy a full Lammasu for the conversion, about Ā£52 for both?

Did this come about from a modelling point of view, or is it something you’ve played in games?

tjub:

Looks like he is leaping for a hug! :stuck_out_tongue: Nice work though…

Admiral:

Great Lammasu conversion! I’ll use the Manticore too, though keep its wings and then sculpt a scorpion tail end, head and a bit of jewelry. I didn’t know that the old 5th edition Lammasu’s head fit so well with the new Manticore kit.

BeeZharr:

@Coopervisor Yeah, it was Ā£52 for both, but I do have loads of bits for the bits box. Might make a small manticore out of the lamassu carcass… This was purely modelling, the old lamassu model just did not feel right as a centre piece of my army, so I wanted a bigger one. I haven’t actually played a game since the days when Lizardmen and Brettonians came in the box - I couldn’t bear a Warhammer World with no Chaos Dwarfs. I’m hoping to start gaming again once the Warhammer Forge book is out.

@tjub It does. I think they’ve modelled it on a big cat leaping, but it does look a little cuddly.

@Admiral I had no idea either! I looked at the manticore in the GW window and thought that the difference wouldn’t be insurmountable, given a bit of green stuff, but I had no idea it would near enough just slot in place. I’ll keep my eyes open for your conversion.

BeeZharr:

My Hobgoblins with the spears are no more. From what I hear about the LoA list, Hobgoblins can’t take spears so to make mine usable, I’ve changed that unit to archers and added them to the other archers - now a unit of 20.

I’m now holding off doing any major work on the army until I get a copy of the list, and know what we have to work with…

BeeZharr:

I finished my wolfriders a while back and just realised I hadn’t posted pictures yet. It’s a unit of ten, with spears and shields, led by a hero. I imagine this will have to change when I get the LoA list to work from… but here they are as they are at the moment.

The hero is a character I call Bakich, King of the Mountain Hobgoblins. He emulates the Chaos Dwarfs he serves by wearing a giant hat. Here’s a couple of close ups -

Some other bits I’ve finished and not posted yet are some crew members for the Death Rocket -

Finally I thought I would assemble my little host together for a team photo -

Unfortunately this will be how it will look for a little while, I have a limited married persons ā€˜fun budget’ each month, and a large chunk of November’s is going on Tamurkhan (and then it’s Christmas)… I’m going to try and move on my small Tau army to fund some new units, but I’m not holding my breath.

BeeZharr:

I have Tamurkhan in my possession. It is beautiful and now I have the list I’m going to work off to make my host from. I’m currently working on sculpting my own IG models - or rather Chaos Dwarf warriors in heftier armour, using the rules of IG. I will put some pics of those up soon. I’m a messy sculpter, but I’ve surprised myself as I think they’re passable.

I also got a rebate on my energy bills from my old landlady, which was nice and unexpected. It was just enough to get me a Stonehorn kit. I’m going to use it as a Kdaii Destroyer. It’s not really quite right for the fluff, but I wanted to use the model so much I’m converting it to be Kdaii Destroyer like as possible.

Here are some WIP pics -

Coversion wise, it’s pretty much done, I just need to think of how to fill the gap at the back of the neck where the saddle should have gone. The paint scheme will hopefully bring the model to life, the hanging fur I’m going to paint as dripping lava, with pools coalescing on the ground.

Vogon:

Looks good, did you shorted the horns?

I do like the idea of the beard as well I look forward to some more pictures as this one develops. I’m currently lining up a stonehorn for a Destroyer conversion of my own. I have a few ideas but need to have a few practice runs at sculpting the effect I want to achieve before committing the model to some butchery

Cheers

Vogon

zhatan87:

Good ideas here for the destroyer!
I have used the same mini (stonehorn).

I didn’t think that we could shorten the horns:o Well done! Mine is not painted yet (only the fur), so is it easy to do it? I must do it, it’s great!

And good idea with the beard!

For the saddle, I used a marauder shield with the chaos cross symbol. To make it more chaotik… Easy and quick. And the thundertusk shield kit on the leg rather than the stonehorn one (because it was the shield with the chaos symbol)
I have also removed the pin on the feet (to get hooves), some skulls in the fur (and add them on the base) and the horns on the bottom of the mouth to make it less stonehorn and more like the artwork.
Remove the ogre symbol too on the leg…

Very good work, stay motivated!

BeeZharr:

I did shorten the horns - I just snipped them, filed the surfaces and glues them back in place. A bit of green stuff to fill the gaps and smooth the join.

I took the small horns of the bottom of the stonehorn head, snipped a bit off them and added them as tusky teeth, which led me into sculpting the beard.

@zhatan87 - I think you’re right about the spikes on the foot. I will take them off.

I’m deliberately leaving the Ogre symbol on the leg there as it looks like a good place to show the insides of the beast. I plan to paint what ought to be stone as metal, so the symbol looks like a window into the flames beneath. I might smooth some of the detail off so it is less like the Ogre symbol.

I marauder shield could work well in that gap, but I was wondering about something like a set of exhaust pipes - just to highlight the beast-machine-daemon symbiosis.

Admiral:

Your army is looking very fine. Great work!

BeeZharr:

The Kļæ½?Tdaii of The Green Forge

With his exile, Beezharr the Obnoxious brought his skills to the Green Forge. Away from the prying, and contemptuous, eyes of the sorcerers of Zharr Naggrund, Beezharr honed his mastery over beast and slave.

In the mountains bordering his new Northern Waste base, Beezharr and his daemonsmiths found an abundance of slave resources, mainly in the mountain hobgoblin kingdom of Bakich, and the fragmented ogre tribes that battled to gain a foothold in the area.

This new slave army gathered to him a plethora of beasts and creatures that any other Chaos Dwarf would immediately discard as worthless, but the Rejected that operated the Green Forge drafted them in as beasts of burden. Beezharr saw another, more sinister use for these creatures however.

Any Chaos Dwarf knows that flesh and bone are no match for iron and fire and set about a series of malevolent experiments. Ancient and evil alchemies, blended with the dark arts of the daemonsmiths reforged beasts into hulks of molten iron, bound in the hides of the monsters. Unable to withstand the changes, the feeble spirits of the simple beasts were replaced with the screaming terror of bound fire daemons, giving birth to the Kļæ½?Tdaii of the Green Forge.

The largest of these Kļæ½?Tdaii take the form of the largest beasts found in the mountains. The petrified remains of Stonehorn are reforged in enscorcelled metal and a powerful fire daemon entombed within. Its vicious thirst is slated with the souls of sacrificed slaves and contained by enchantments of binding ļæ½?" to the enemies of Beezharr it appears merely like the Obnoxious Host are herding primitive beasts their way, until at the right moment the daemonsmiths relax the enchantments. The Kļæ½?Tdaii begins to burn with primeval magics, the bound souls spilling from its body as the flesh of the beast is burned away. The reforged body can only hold the fire daemon within for a short period before it burst apart in a blaze of sorcerous fire, but in that short time the Kļæ½?Tdaii unleashes untold destruction on the foes of the Green Forgeļæ½?Ts malicious ruler.

And here is the completed K’daii Destroyer -

I’ve also had a bit of a go at sculpting. I’m not very good, but I did better than I thought I would. Ten slaves to the first person to guess which model is buried beneath the green stuff.

Finally, you may recall that I picked up a cheap Baneblade someone had returned to Hobbycraft. It’s been sitting starring at me, so I started playing around with the bits, plus some plasticard and spare bits from the Stonehorn kit. I wasn’t really sure what I was making, but I think it’s some sort of siege Dreadquake Mortar -

Any suggestions on wher I could take this model will be gratefully received, as I’m not too sure.

Wifstrand:

I’m a fan of your work and you’re a source of inspiration for me. I have two questions for you!

1. I saw your Lammasu conversion and instantly knew I had to make it. I’ve bought the Manticore (didn’t open it yet), but I’d like to ask you a question first: The Lammasu I own already is in metal, do you think the massive, heavy head will be too much for the Manticore’s feet, or will I need to brace it with a flying stand? I suppose I could pin the feet and reinforce the underside of the base, but I’d like to hear your thoughts and experiences on the stability of the assembled plastic Manticore.

2. I like the concept behind using a Stonehorn as the basis of a K’Daai Destroyer, and I just so happen to have one lying around. I had thought of using it before, but I ended up rejecting the idea. Now that I’ve seen your conversion I see that it really does work. Do you mind if I go ahead and draw heavily upon your conversion for inspiration?

BeeZharr:

Thanks Wilfstrand - I should add that the community here are a great inspiration, and I have unashamedly pinched numerous ideas from people on here.

I’ll address your queries.

1) The area between the model and the base on the manticore is sufficient to support a metal head if you can get it glued on. However, the centre of gravity would be hanging over the front half of the base. I think it would balance ok, but the base might bend and warp slightly. A flying base would stop this but would really detract from the model.

2) Be my guest! Just make sure you put pics up somewhere on here so we can all see it.

Hope that helps.

Wifstrand:

I’m saddened by your reply to #1… Would it help, you think, if I reinforce the base from underneath? I’m thinking making its underside perfectly flat and gluing a piece of thick plasticard up there to prevent the base from bending in case the metal Lammasu head proves too heavy. Alternatively I can sculpt some curly beard on the Manticore and use the horns from the metal Lammasu on its head. Maybe that’ll look good, and hopefully it’ll not just look like an oversized Chaos Dwarf head.

Also, 3. Can the Chaos Lord legs be used as the bottom half for a Chaos Dwarf torso? I was planning on mounting one of my two Mantic Games Abyssal Dwarf ā€˜Iron-casters’ (basically Sorcerers) on the Lammasu, but I need a suitable pair of legs.

BeeZharr:

Sorry, my answer to one shouldn’t have sounded so futile. It will bend slightly, but a little reinforcement should be enough.

The sorcerer’s legs will look odd as they’re quite long, but if you trimmed them and put the feet at the knees and used a little green stuff, it is certainly plausible. I thought about this myself, but think I’m going to mount Drazoath on there.

Wifstrand:

Hmm… If you do that, I would love to help you get rid of Drazhoath’s Taurus

BeeZharr:

Hmm... If you do that, I would love to help you get rid of Drazhoath's Taurus ;)

Wifstrand
If I got one, I don't think I could ever part with it. Even if it never made it into the army I'd just keep it around and pet it occasionally...
