Does anyone know which head he is using? Is it a beastmen monster thing?

Bloodbeard:
Those hunter orcs er quite nice miniatures, at bit on the skinny side for warhammer. But that’s the case with all historical miniatures too.
The 3rd edition miniatures are a dangerous path to enter. I bought a couple cheap of VintagePhreak and after seeing them in the flesh I need all of them. Clams command group is so cool! His whole line fits perfectly in with the 3rd guys. He is a decent guy too, has offerede me tips on casting as well.
Good update man. I looking foward to seeing some conversions and some paint now.
Oh, the Maulerfiends head is from the Beastman Ghorgon. It’s a great miniature, I using it to make my destroyer (WIP earlier in my blog). I have the Cyghor head left if you want it. It’s a really cool monster head, same size - only he is one eyed.
Doombeard:
Looking at both of them I think I’ll go down the Ghorgon route too and maybe try and turn the leftover body into a Siege Giant, thanks though man =) Its a really nice way of doing it I agree =) This guy did it well too… http://mcgibs.com/junk/chaos-bull02.jpg
I like the proportions of the Hunter Orcs, they are lean yes and lack the oversized features & pot belied look of the hobgobs from 4th edition, which is a shame, and also won’t fit in at all with Admirals heads or the 4th edition ones which is a problem, so maybe they are a poor mans hobbo choice, but for now I am loving them, I like the realism, and hoping they rank up well next to the IG

The ghorgon towers way over the head of the giant though, and his head won't fit. But I thing the Raging Heroes Sphinx head might just do the trick.

Been throwing a bit of paint down, took me a while to get over my artists block, its for the first time since 2007…got a pretty sweet set up going though at my mums art studio
My painting table currently consists of
1 Destroyer
6 Fireborn
6 wolfriders w bows
6 wolfriders w spears
18 cuthroats w shields and h weapons
20 cuthroats w bows
So expect to see that finished before I start anything else
Started learning to use an airbrush for the first time ever as well…
The FW Bloodthirster is the biggest model I’ve painted, took me a while to get my head round what I wanted to do with it. Slowly building up tones with Inks and layers at the moment.
Wolfriders are coming on now I have the Fell Warg heads swapped for Fenrisian Wolves.
And here are some Firebro’s I got ripped off on from Ebay. They were posted to me from an ebay UK member, with no protection or packaging an entire month late and were all broken and stuff and just rattling around inside the box when they finally arrived.
They had been assembled and really badly put together and also had loads of latex stuck into the recesses. Took me hours to rescue these guys. Some of the bits that had broken off didn’t even come with them which kinda sucked balls.
They are def 3rd party mini’s which I was pretty gutted about as I paid a fairly high price on ebay £30 for 6 via ebay auction. I expect I could’ve bought them brand new via 3rd party if I’d gone down that route and saved myself the hassle of all the broken bits and headaches. When I asked the guy why there was latex all over them from Mold casting and why they were so beaten up I just got a “I bought them from some other guy on ebay” which seems to be the standard response nowadays for anyone selling recasts.
Still everything is coming along nicely, got a bunch of cool stuff on the backburner too including a unit filler ( statue of Hashut ) Hellcannon, Flying Cow, Taur’ruk and Iron Demon.

But I am happy to see that Ebay finally banned all the Chinese/Russian sellers that were selling hordes of FW copies...I've noticed that cheap Chinese copies always seem to have torn latex bits stuck in all the nooks and crannies of models.

The wolfies do look promising. Guess Ive been lucky so far on evilbay, but I have steered clear of any of the newer models out of personal preferences though

Getting some good painting time in, got all my base coats down on my current batch of stuff, and begininng to lay down some highlights and blends. The Fireborn are taking the most time at the moment to blend all those flames is a lot of work.
The bases are taking a lot of time too to blend all the detail and faces in the liquid pools. Eventually my plan is to use clear resin water effects to fill these in to hopefully look like lava.
I hit a brick wall with the Destroyer recently. My main ref images I was working from were Eldar FW Avatars on Cmon and Bloodthirsters. I ended up finding a great ref to work from which is something along how I want mine to look. Very dark with splashes of fire and light. Its from a diorama depicting Sanguinius vs a Bloodthirster.
So now I have all his basecoats on and he’s moving in the right direction. Hes a bit boring like this though so I will be doing some extra bits and pieces to enhance him, like adding some GS flames in places and some flaming chains in his hands, and adding more details to the base like a dismembered bleeding torso/corpse. I may also re-base him completely on a slope to give him a more level stance as he is stooping his head a bit too much at the moment.
Fireborn WiP’s
Hunter Orcs WiP’s (apologies for out of focus pics)
Lastly my desk =)

Be careful wight he fire though, unless you intend to paint in inverted.Ahh yeah good point thanks for the tip Tjub, was getting carried away with the yellow highlighting and not thinking about it clearly enough, need to look at some fire! I couldn't decide if I wanted them to be hotter in a vertical way so more at the top, or more around the head, or more around the bottom, and I think I've got lost along the way a bit. I will look for some more video and images of fire =)

Some nice progress her man, good work. The hunter orcs work pretty nice, the ones on wolves are really cool looking. a it pale for my taste. But I guess living a life in and around Zharr Naggrund will do that to you, when your race should be living on the grassy plains in the east.
That blood thirster is effing great! What is he killing? Can’t really make out if it’s an gel of what it is? But his wings a catching on fire - what a brilliant way to use the phoenix wings.
Regarding fire: How to paint it! I read this article on how to paint flames a couple of times. Good theory and tutorial. My flames have improved every time I’ve painted them, my GHXXI entry being the best yet.
What you have done looks good - even if it’s a bit wrong in terms of “realism”. After doing my Fireborn, the thing that made them look complete was a light black drybrush. On the very tip of some of the flames, give them a very light black drybrush (with an almost completely dried paint). Does wonders for the flames and adds some much needed contrast!

But I guess living a life in and around Zharr Naggrund will do that to you, when your race should be living on the grassy plains in the east.Ha yeah its a bit pale for me too I know what you mean, its just a base coat, I normally basecoat all my mini's first with rough colours before I start to refine them. So I can see how the unit looks as a whole roughly before I spend too much time on them, and to give me a good starting point for layers washes etc. I think I am going for a sickly green yellowey green for these guys skin, but I still havent decided completely between that and the more traditional vivid green of the 4th ed hobbos. I used the GW Waaagh flesh Base I think for this first layer.

I just grabbed myself a Realm of Battle Earthworks board from FW (along with a Skullcracker to complete my now full collection of FW models). I want to use it primarily as a kind of diorama display board/ armies on parade type thing, but will also use it in games if I get a chance. I wanted to get two but its a bit too expensive so maybe later down the line. I then got searching the net for more Realms of Battle goodness and came across this forum thread in Dakka Dakka by a professional scenery maker, 3T - some excellent use of LED’s for Lava here, and some really nice Chaos style battlefield details, if anyones interested in reading the full blog its here

and heres the sequel

I’m going to copy the hell out of this and make a rune of Hashut instead of the chaos one, been wanting to do something with LED’s, clear resin and Lava for a while now. Was going to try and use them on my Magma Cannon. The RoB table isn’t cheap, but it will be such a fun project and give my Chaos Dwarfs some ‘home turf’ to fight on I feel its worthy project to take on after my Army is painted up.
Doombeard:
Getting those great weapons to rank up is going to be tough. Might have to make them all left handed which I don’t really want to do. I could chop off the weapon head and twist it upwards facing for the axes and maybe trim down some of the gloves so everything has less protusion, but any way I do it other than left handed is going to be tough
Edit***
Now I’ve chopped off the wrist portion of the gloves at the wrist join, they fit much nicer and can rank up, so that is the way forward I think.

The destroyer looks really amazing! That is how a k’daai destroyer should look like :). Looking forward to see this guy finished.
The hunting orcs fits pretty good as hobgoblins. nice idea.
I see you get some blunderbusses from ebay. How well is the casting quality? I ordered some great weapons from these guy some days ago.

Yeah the quality is pretty good of the blunderbusses, I found one or two small bubbles in places, so not perfect, but nothing you can't easily fix with GS. The detail is great, they need some cleanup but all in all very happy with them and although slightly expensive I am happy to support someone independent.
