Really nice work. How did you do the tusks they’re awesome. If you like you could post a tutorial on this - loads of people have trouble getting that look, its why masks are so popular

Abyss:
yer ok, well im working on some of the battle for skull pass miners atm but they all follow the same process so i’ll take a few snaps as i go along and see what i can rustle up, ermmm where should i post this guide when its finished?
Hashut’s Blessing:
I’d suggest lining the helmet’s rims and shield rims (maybe the weapons too) with either chainmail or mithril silver. It’ll break the slight monotomy and there is extra colour brought in with the lava bases. Excellent sulpting on the nose, tusk, moustache and beard front. Brilliant painting on the lava base and a very nice cohesive look to the unit. Many congratulations.
Abyss:
right then, after taking onboard some of the comments already made about the unit i set to work this morning and did some rethinking of the colour sheme, after trying a few things out and not liking them i decided that i was best not to try and change things to dramaticly, end well… here’s the result
i’ve used a chestnut ink to turn some of the metal a more bronze colour and i think it works quite well to split the models up slightly, it was mentioned that the beards blended in too much with the armour and weapons etc. and i think it can be seen in the last picture that that this problem has been reduced, i might still have to do something with the chainmail though
oh, also got the front ranks lava bases done
so what do you guys think? any better?
Xander:
Ya, adds some colour punch! I also recommend painting the buttons on the coat, on the trimming.
Abyss:
yer never really noticed them there… will do
Pyro Stick:
Paint the chainmail in chainmail and paint the shoes brown. Apart from that they are looking good. The lava bases really help to give it some much needed colour.
furrie:
mabey color the eys, if you can paint good eyes
Kera foehunter:
great job on the baces .They are super hard core!!!
AGPO:
Really nice work once again. The guide could just stay in this thread or if you wanted you could make this a blog and ask one of the mods to move the thread for you
Abyss:
ok… i think i will see about getting this moved into the army bloag section… and i’ll see about getting the guide posted up as my own contribution to this great forum
Xander:
It shall be done.
Willmark:
I’ll reiterate… awesome job on these evil stunties, however the fangs/tusk are not enough; these need some skulls, spiky bits, what have you to make them more evil looking!
Abyss:
now then… with golden hat over i thought it was time to post my entry up in my army blog in the spirit of completeness.
what im really regretting now is not taking any work in progress pics…upshot of it is that i completely cut off and remoulded his head at a different angle… and then sculpted him 2 new arms… i wanted quite a dramatic pose and so i stole the gun off of the bfsp thunderer champion and pose him to be cracking a shot off…
i origionally had ideas of him holding the flag across his body with one leg purched on a rock. similar to allot of space marine pictures… but after trying to sculpt him a new leg i decided i couldn’t do it and had to then resculpt the chainmail on his lower half.
the deamon banner comes from the first chaos dwarf podcast, there was a lenghy disgussion about the deamon binding aspect to chaos dwarfs and so i decided i wanted to try to make this a theme in my army. a big standard seemed like an easy place to start adding this in.
i was really astonished i got 3rd place… before i had seen the other entries i thought i was in with a shot… but then once voting started and i saw the competition i thought i was out of it.
anyway i realy enjoyed making the model and the whole experience of participating in my first golden hat, and for those who did, thanx for voting for me
peace out
torn:
i really like the banner, very chaotic.
I hadnt noticed during golden hat how much conversion work must have went into the repositioning on the body. the only thing i dont like the the original banner you have used, i have never ever ever liked those skulls hanging by their tuft of hair. i know its nothing to do with you but it would have been cool to chop them off and have something different hanging there instead.
Kera foehunter:
i like the banner.Thats one of the best hand made banner i ever seen!!!
Pluss he has a gun
Abyss:
yer i know what u mean… hmmm… if a head has been severed long enough that it has no skin etc.? why do they still hav hair? i was tempted to use the skulls attatched to chains from the chaos rhino, coincidentaly happens to be the same as clam used on his banner.
Canix:
COOL banner the scream (bound demons)works really well :hat off
YOU could gs similar faces on your CD warriors shields for a more chaosy feel :hat
Hashut’s Blessing:
I like the changes you have made to the unit. Perhaps lighten the chainmail a little bit, that would help the beards to stand out. Or use brown as a base for the beard and black as the highlight/ink.
As for the standard bearer, the larger picture does wonders for it (especially as it’s not with all of the other entries. Makes it a little easier to see). The lighting effect is brilliant as is the sculpting, especially onto the banner and the colours ahve been put together remarkably. Again, a thumbs up and congratulations on third!
Abyss:
yer i did think about the scream when i was building in… what an eriee painting, and yer i might have to see about sculpting the deamons onto the warrior shields, i have just recently finished the first sculpts of my new big hat style chaos dwarf warriors and have casted them up so i’ll post them up sometime in the week,
thanx for your comments HB, i think it was ishkur who had mentioned in the past about how the bigger pictures in his army blag showed up all the mistakes in his GH entry. … i agree with him lol… i’ve just noticed a horrible looking mould line on the butt of the gun, rest assured it has been delt with. i was really pleased with how the object source lighting turned out though as i just followed a simple guide on tau online and its the first real time i’ve tried it.
