[Archive] A future problem for us chaos dwarf?

Nazhur:

I just got a thought that could become a problem that no one so far has at leasts said anything about. And that is that with the new version of warhammer (the 8:ed ofc), it will come a new starting box (will know this allready with high elves vs skaven) and that means no more Skullpass dwarfs.

As many new chaos dwarf player use them for a base as they are cheap to get, will this make our numbers get lower as people won´t buy the regular dwarfs boxes to try experminent with green stuff on as they are to expensive? Or am I just thinking to much? Anyone got any thoughts about his?

Grimstonefire:

I think the intake of people moving into CD because they were so cheap will probably go down.  Still, there will be boxes floating around for years, and units on ebay etc.

richard barby:

its ok people get sick of getting hammered useing dwarfs all the time wont take long for people to turn to choas dwarfs

Arashi:

I’m going to use the skaven slaves as hobgoblins without equipment when I play with my chaos dwarfs  . That’s (one of) the good thing with playing many different armies!

Obsidian:

Good point actually, going to get me a 7th edition starterbox for cheap soon! :cheers

Firehammer:

You can still buy enough Lammasus, Blunderbusses and Bull Centaurs on ebay, and they are 16 years old and much rarer. So I wouldn’t be afraid about buying the miniatures from the current starter set.

clam:

And that’s why we need a new ‘conversion video’ up at CDO-TV- a video showing how to turn cheap Mantic dwarfs into Chaos Dwarfs

Think many starts out with the box set - but ends up using the regular dwarfs instead - for more variety. So, maybe not that much of a deal, anyway.

Obsidian:

Come to think of it, I think the new edition is purely a conspiracy! GW is working on a new Chaos Dwarf armybook as we speak and doesn’t like the fact that people can make complete armies out of the Battle for Skullpass set relatively cheap! That is why the 8th edition is brought into life, so that the Skullpass set can be pulled back and once GW releases the Chaos Dwarf army everybody will buy them! ;P

clam:

A very, very plausible explanation - lol :stuck_out_tongue:

furrie:

I hope its true, but probably not :stuck_out_tongue:

Abecedar:

I like the theory, fits well with the image of evil GW masterminds. I grabbed a BFSP set two weeks back cheap. Mainly cause I thought Id turn my two multipart goblins into Hobgoblins somehow and needed two more of the smaller bfsp goblins to flesh out the Goblin army as well as more spiders. I have used the bfsp goblins in lieu of rabble before and plan to mix in skaven and stuff later.

Ronshank:

crosses fingers Man I wish that was true, but then I’ve been hoping that the hellcannopn was there to see if a redesign would get more players interested. I suppose we need some conversion vids based on the dwarf army box sets or even just certain unit sets

Willmark:

I wouldn’t worry about the loss of the [[BFSP]] set. I’m sure there will be plenty on the various sites/places people have mentioned for quite some time to come.

apocalypstia:

i wouldnt see the loss of the BFSP set as a huge impact on the CD community, sure the feeder of a cheap army is a nice draw, but it would seem that any tru chaos dwarf true or convert is drawn in by the communities and vast creativity for conversions as well as awesome sites like this one.

and as GeeW gets around to making revised dwarfs the older stuffs will become more readily available as people make way for new. So there will always be something somewhere…

Shirts, DICE, the webzine… people will continue to join and build just to be a part of the greatness that has come from the little corner of chaos embraced by our chaos dwarfs.

til then, just keep showing people what a phenomenal place this is and they will come… they will continue to come

Vash:

personaly, i never saw the BFSP dwarfs as a good startingpoint. shield readily attached gives little room for sculpting a beard (hats of for all you guys who succeded in that). not sure if the thunderers were single piece minis as well, but then the same problem would occur (and again, good work if you succeded in getting it to look good).

the night goblins were just way to small to my liking, but that’s probably personal taste… hobgoblins should be larger then standard gobbo’s, not smaller.

i can understand though that a lot of people see it as a loss, as it gives you a great starting kit to play games with… especialy if you’re new to the hobby AND want to start the unltimate underdog army. you start out with a large amount of Core units, some warmachines and characters and even something to proxy for wolfriders(spiderriders).

i’m actualy looking forward for the new starter, i really like the Griffon model (not the elve riding it… but the monster is fantastic) and maybe i can use the skaven to make sneaky gits. donno how they will match next to my normal converted hobbo’s.

i think people will keep starting CD’s, as it’s one of those armies people can go all the way in their converting skills. sort of everything goes army as long as it looks dwarfish and chaotic at the same time.

baba yaga:

For me a much bigger problem is the army list.

Just how legal our current rules?  RH was two editions ago… I have the distinct feeling these rules are sinking into the quagmire of obscurity.  A number of units seem obsolete or have shady rules at best (sneaky gits, BC, blunderbusses…) and what about the hellcannon?

This is a real shame and lately i have been pondering using a “counts as” army.  Am I the only one who feels this way or do you guys feel the same way?

Thommy H:

If you look around the forum, you’ll see that we’re already working on an FAQ to make Ravening Hordes 8th Edition compliant.

ClawLeader:

Our biggest problem that I see currently is our only current rules are either Ravening Hordes or the Indy GT list which is fan-made. Either we keep RH up to date with the current edition, pray to Hashut we get a real book or just continue to use a count as army.

Most people shouldn’t have any issues as long as you show them the rules your using and let them see them. RH is a GW product which lends itself a form of legitimacy to other players when you bring the stunties out for play

ClawLeader:

Not every one has access to CDO for the compliant list which poses an issue to when your out and about with people who never encountered Dawi Zharr, unless you’ve printed out the errata and rules for them.

Updates and fan lists are in the here and now as far as I am concerned for solutions, and I don’t say this as insult to the wonderful work found here, but until we actually have a blessing from GeeDub itself with an official up to date and concise book, we are in a little bit of a problem as far as not having an officially supported army.
