[Archive] AGPO's shiny blog of everything! (update 13/11/11)

slev:

For the insectigor’s arms, I’d use the Keeper of Secrets claws…

Kera foehunter:

wow what an update love the spider deamon

Merchant:

Wow :o Cool, all over cool my friend :cheers

- That Spider-Demon is really a great conversion, however is he done - or will he get some arms or???

- Your Dragon Ogres on the other hand is not my cup of tea - but but (and I mean BUT) I like the idea of using the older type of cold ones as base body to them, but the ogre body is just too big (remember this is just my oppinion).

- All in all, this is a great army - and I like it to the core :cheers

cheers mate :cheers

AGPO:

Thanks for the feedback guys :hatoff

@ slev - I like the idea of claws, but I think the keeper of secrets ones might be big and are definitely too pricey as I’d have to buy the entire model.

@ Merchant - Thanks mate, spidey is not done yet! I just need to decide what role he’s gonna fill, then I can give him the right kit/deadly limbs. As for the dragon ogres I’m in almost full agreement. They haven’t worked out as I’d planned. However, the Ogre torso can work with them - it’s simply a bad bit of fitting by me.

I was going to shelve the Dragon Ogre project but I went into GW Nottingham today and saw someone had fitted an ogre torso to one of the newest cold ones. It worked better because he’d fixed it almost straight on the front. My mistake was to try and fit the torso’s so that they’re rearing up like the old ones, but that doesn’t suit the pose of the cold ones at all. I’m giving them a refit tonight and hope to have them up here tomorrow

Merchant:

Okay - I see, it sounds like a good idea
I cannot wait to see them re-done, again I like the idea - so I have high hopes for them - my own fragon ogres are taken from Bjorn’s by using the steed body from a Khorne champion’s demonic steed and the upper body from some Iron Guts  so nothing new on that front - and thats’ why I really cant wait to see a new fit for these unit type (the old ones are a bit borring for me).

Cheers mate :cheers

AGPO:

Merchant - I’d love to see some pictures of those if you’ve got any going :cheers

Well I now have my list calculated for the new Warriors of Chaos. A friendly staffer allowed me the book for a bit to work this out. I won’t give you the full current list as it ways in at over 14,000pts for Mortals alone(!) However, I’m not satisfied with this, so I’ve written an expansion. Four seperate legal armies form the core: Slaanesh, Nurgle, Tzeentch and a combined Khorne and Undivided army. To this I’ll be adding some special characters and their retinues to fill out the extra lord and special choices. In total it comes to 21,000pts whichmeans with 3,000pts each of Daemons, Beasts and Dawi’zhaar I’ll be able to put 30,000pts of Chaos on the field. Obviously I won’t give you the full list but to complete it I need:

Wulfrig

A new lord on Juggernaut

Valkyrie

a Chaos Batallion

Throg

30 Marauder horsemen

Festus leading 13 chosen of Nurgle

two exalted champions of Slaanesh

4 more dragon ogres

5 war shrines

2 daemon princes (1 slaanesh, 1 nurgle)

15 Forsaken

Palaquin

Lord on Dragon

Lord of Tzeentch on Daemonic steed

Vilitch leading 14 chosen

Sigvald + 14 Chosen

Kolek

Galrauch

So, anyway… bit of a long termer there

UPDATE - 29TH OCTOBER 2008 HERE COMES THE CAVALRY

This latest update has a decidedly equestrian(ish) feel, with chaos knights and mounted characters pictured. But don’t worry, there’s something for you footslogger fans as well.

First of all, my first unit of chaos knights, led by an Exalted champion on a daemonic steed. I’ve made a few subtle conversions to the unit, and a simple handswap on the hero:

I’m also working on a new unit to accompany my jugger riding lord. I went with a different colour scheme to make the two retinues stand out, so I’ve put a comparison pic alongside him:

Speaking of Juggers, I’m thinking of a purpose for this old one I had lying around. He’ll probablly carry a herald in the daemonic section of the list

This guy was inspired by the awesome knights of Slaanesh in the chaos collectors guide. He leads the converted knight unit I previewed last time.

Lastly, the most badass chaos knight of them all. Archaon is here on Droghar and on foot. Take a peak:

Infantry then. When I first saw these bloodletters the first thing I thought was “Balrog.” Unfortunately the ‘de rigeur’ painting technique at the time was gloss varnish over a black basecoat. Not so good. So they’re getting a repaint, along with at least five new models joining them (god love ebay).

To finish off today’s update I’ve got the start of an experiment. For a while now white undercoats have been making a comeback. having been a staunch supporter of Mr. C. Black for over a decade I decided to give it a go. This guy was an ebay bargain so I decided to try out a few different techniques on him.

UPDATE 29TH OCTOBER 2008

Only a little update, but a perfectly formed one. There has been a slight change of plan. Instead of posting my sculpting article in my blog, I’ve decided to submit it for the next issue of Word of Hashut. However, seeing as you’ve all been so patient I’ve decided to preview a few photos of one of the finished models here. There’ll be more to come after WoHIII goes out. Anyway, here’s one of my blockers with a hobbo in the last shot for comparison:

Well its been a long time coming but myself and my fellow players finally got enough models to start some warm up games. Next week I’m going to be playing a couple of sevens games against an orc team and a team of humans. The beauty of sevens is that you can play it in next to no time at all, so we can get our games in before the rugby or a night out

Kera foehunter:

I like the cd ammor nice turf too

Kera foehunter:

wow you been busy Agpo!!Love the night of slaanash

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull:

Good to see some old blood letters, those look much better In my oppinion. To bad that the pic’s are a little dark so that we can’t see the details.

Greetz

Willmark:

Looks goo but the photos are a bit dark, can you get some more light on teh front of them?

Grimstonefire:

I’ve touched up a few photos so we can see it better:

Kera foehunter:

Great job grim!!! to can change dark into light!!!

your even a mad sorceror too!!

AGPO:

Okay, confession time. Even I occasionally dally with 40K.

To me, Imperial Fists epitomise everything that’s awesome about Space Marines: Their stubborn, never say die attitude, their devotion and their awesome skills. The fact that they are consumate masters of defense, but have pulled of some of the greatest death or glory attacks in the history of the Imperium just has me sold. They gave us the Crimson Fists and the Black Templars, two of the coolest successor chapters ever. Plus ‘Big Roy’ Dorn is the coolest of the Primarchs. Fact. End of.

This force is based around the reserve companies that make up the chapter’s specialists. Specifically the 9th, aka Devastator Company. Now before I hear cries of “cheese!” or “beard!” a) this is a themed army and b) it was concieved in 3rd edition when you had to be either shooty or choppy to an insane degree.

Anyway, enough waffle, pictures:

The newest addition is a box of plastic devators. Its finally given me the components to make all the devs I want. When finished the 3x10 man squads will feature - 3 heavy bolters and a multi-melta, 4 rocket launchers and finally one with 2 plasma cannons and two lascannons. Pretty good all round balance I think.

There are no tactical squads in a Chapter’s 9th company, so scouts were my only troops option. As the army is based for urban/trench warfare, the first squad is modelled to be laying down sniper fire from heavy cover whilst the other is shown at the moment they start to break cover. There were no plastic scout snipers at the time so I improvised with converted cadians and catachans. I can explain their non-standard gear because the army is themed as holding a besieged city

My command squad. Along with the captain these guys are far too tooled up to use in most games. Mostly they sit on a shelf and look pretty… I mean scary.

There’s a cool bit of fluff about Sigismund, founder of the Black Templars being selected as the first Emperor’s Champion. Sigismund paints his power armour black like the Chaplins to show his dirsct service to the Emperor. I thought it would be cool if his successor champions from his old legion did the same in his honour.

The Apocathary’s wargear always struckme as steam punk. So lots of brass and a chaos marine bolt pistol with the chain feed ammo was in order for this guy.

I just had to have one guy with crusade armour in the army, so this command marine had to do the job

My favorite model in the army is the Company standard. His pose looks really heroic and I’m really pleased with the way the freehand on the banner turned out. It’s inspired by Dorn’s death, when he and a small band of Fists sacrificed themselves to prevent a Black Crusade reaching Cadia. Al; that remained of Dorn was his fist, which is preserved on The Scroll at the bottom reads “Never Forget”

Leading the Company are its Captain and Chaplin. These are two conversions I’m quite pleased with, especially the Chaplin

lastly, there’s the terminator from Black Reachi got in White Dwarf, and some assault marines I painted up as trial figues for painting yellow in the days beofre foundation paints

speedygogo:

They look great.

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Viskar Zhragoth:

Hey that is one of my favorite armies of Space Marines too (Space Wolves and Imperial Fists were my first 2 40k armies…)!

I learned a neat trick from the 'eavy metal team once when I was in the UK…(almost missed a beer call at Bugman’s ;-0)

To get a really nice, rich yellow, you can use a different techinque…paint the model in flesh/tan tones…if you start with a medium flesh (using tans for shadows), and then highlight to a bright flesh you can then ink the model in yellow. This gives a GREAT looking yellow that does not give you a pale yellow that you can get when you highlight normal yellow with white (or lighter yellows.). There was a picture of a IF captain (5th company I think) in an old White Dwarf and he was painted that way…It looks great when it is all done…NOTE:this works with the yellow inks…not the washes…

Viskar Zhragoth

Kera foehunter:

look great what yellows did you use AGPO???

AGPO:

Thanks for the kind replies guys

@ Kera: The yellow is really easy. Spray the model white, then paint it with a mix of 50:50 Golden Yellow and Yellow ink. When thats dry give it a wash of watered down vermin brown, then highlight with golden yellow, followed by golden yeollow with a little bleached bone on any raised edges

Loki:

they are some really great marines that you have got there, like you i think imperial fists are an amazing army and have such a great back ground (defence of the imperial palace for one ) i was always put off doing a army of them as my painting of yellow was never really good and i really wanted to do them justice, from your pics i can see that you have great to see them hope to see some more soon :cheers
