Check out the wiki! If there’s something that’s not listed there, search google for things like Iron Daemon base size or Dreadquake Mortar base size… they’ll link back to threads on this forum!

What’s the general consensus on base sizes for the big FW models? I got the following from the older threads but wondered if people had changed their minds:
Dreadquake Mortar - 2 Chariot bases (50X200)
Death Shrieker - 1 Chariot base (50X100)
Magma Cannon - 1 Chariot base (50X100)
Iron Daemon - 1 Screaming Bell base (60X100)
Hellcannon - 100x150mm (GW now supply this)

I don’t understand why everyone thinks that the war-machines need a base. They don’t, the bases would only be for decorative purposes, do put them on whatever base you want because it doesn’t affect the way that models interact with them in combat.
Thommy H:
That’s correct: war machines don’t require bases.
Nicodemus:
Dreadquake Mortar - 2 Chariot bases (50X200)And for personal aesthetic reasons if I was going to base all my land train pieces (which I don't plan to do) I'd go with 60mm wide bases for everything, just so that they match up with the iron daemon... but the 50mm will certainly fit, as cornixt has noted.

Oh, holy god, Nico.
Heh. I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that, yet. I’m glad I checked the forum today, as my base of war stuff all just came in, and I almost based on a different width than the Daemon.
Thanks, that would’ve been embarassing.
cornixt:
Certainly, there is no real need to base the war machine models for gaming purposes, but it is nice to get a bit of a better idea on what fits best if you do want one and don’t want to wait around for a second mailorder of the base. Personally, I just like my scratch-built stuff to be roughly the same size as the GW model it represents.
There is a small issue of the Iron Daemon playing a combat role, plus you are shoving it around the table, so a base is best - and if you want it to match the stuff it might be pulling around, they’d need bases too.
Thommy H:
The Iron Daemon is Unique, so it should have a base. Well, its rules should say whether it should or not, really (like the Casket of Souls in the Tomb Kings book), but since it doesn’t you should probably err on the side of caution and give it one.

Having that straight edge along one side helps greatly for moving it and seeing if its going to hit something. That being said, its worth discussing it pre-game with your opponent, because technically if the base clips something ( and not a wheel, spiky bit) it dosn't count, as rules wise it dosn't really have a base (I think that 60mm width came from an email response from FW ). As long as you don't base it on something huge, most people will agree the base is how big really is, but its worth point out.

JonJon:
That’s a good idea about basing the iron daemon
Thorgar:
So whats being suggested here is that if im going to attach a Magma Cannon or Deathshrieker to an Iron Daemon or Dreadquake, I should place them on all on screaming bell bases, (2 for the Dreadquake?) For the sake of looking consistent, or even. I dont know how 2 chariot bases would work for the DQ though, unless im thinking wrong about the sizes.

FW officially released the Fireborns. Anybody knows the base size they provide them?
I want to convert mine but I’d love to now the base size before

Samanos:
a question regarding the dreadquake.
which side is considered the ‘‘front’’ ?
the long or the narrow?
Thommy H:
Does it matter for a war machine?
CopperPot:
This just came to mind while converting my Wolf Raiders, what base size are people using for the Fenrisian Wolfs.
I would normally say cavalry base 25x50mm.
Thommy H:
Yes, they’re cavalry. Every cavalry model in the game is on 25 x 50mm.
