[Archive] Big noses and bigger hats. OOP Dawi Zharr!

Bloodbeard:

The unknown versatility of the hated plastic big hat is amazing - great use of those old monoposers.

You are very skilled in the art of plasticmancy.

I asked before: what is the iron demon drivers hat made of?

Red Skullz:

I agree and I will continue to push the boundaries in regards to utilizing them

Many years working with it, really fun and I’m stoked I can use this skill set in fantasy as well.

Oh, did not catch that question. Apologies!

It’s either a banner top or a buckle from the minotaur sprues. I think it’s the latter. I cut of enough of the old hat, glued the buckle on, greenstuffed a new shape on the backside of the hat and added some rivets.

Reinforcements has arrived.

Fuggit Khan:

Dawi Zharr snowmobiles :o

A+ for creativity! :cheers

Abecedar:

I cannot help but love them. They need a much better name than snow-mobile though.

Red Skullz:

Cheers guys

I do agree on the name issue. Does someone have any ideas on name?

Red Skullz:

This one goes out to Skink for inspiring me into building these and to Bloodbeard for adding some more brilliant fluff to my army. Thanks guys

TheHoodedMan:

For me that works very well. Awesome fluff and a unique unit. Great paintjob as well.

Skink:

You wellcome :D. I guess that the biggest compliment a modeler can receive is when someone takes inspiration from his work! I like your Fireborn better than mine though, as yours look “bulkier” (mine stand a little bit too spaced on their massive 40mm bases)… Also, I like the idea of using Astragoth for the Manburner!!!

Red Skullz:

Thanks guys

@Skink: I agree wholeheartedly on that  I think it’s because they stand with their legs so apart that they’re almost doing the splits. Probably as a way of bracing against the recoil when firing. The gor arms also helps with the bulk.

Again, thanks

Yodrin:

Those look awesome!!! as the rest of your army! And your CD army is growing really fast!!

Red Skullz:

Takk Yodrin

Yeah it’s progressing really well. These last years I’ve worked hard on developing a good system for producing armies at a solid rate with as high a quality as I’m able. This year I’ve painted 2500 Chaos Daemons, 3700 points Orks and I think I’m at the 1500+ point with this army.

Red Skullz:

As I mentioned in my last blog post I’m not willing to dish out for 4th ed hobgoblins on eBay. Prices are simply ridiculous.

So when Geir, a great friend offered to give me his converted hobgoblins I said - YAY

I have enough for two units of 25. The first with bows and full command.

Since hobgoblin noses aren’t pointed as on goblins I’ve snipped them off and will greenstuff new ones. Then I’ll paint them up similar to my khans.

Yodrin:

Sweet!! He should have offered me those when I played against him in the Challenge tourney…and got crushed;)

Red Skullz:

Sweet indeed

Hehe, I’ll let him know that

Red Skullz:

Last WiPs I took before impatience took hold and I completed the build and basecoated them. Painting has started!

Yodrin:

Those are really cool!!!

Red Skullz:

Thanks  in hindsight it was stupid not to take more WiPs as I added quite a lot of details before basecoat. Ah well.

Admiral:

Good luck with the Hobgoblins! The snow scooters are great.

Red Skullz:

Thanks! I actually look forward to paint them. Got a bad addiction in painting greenskins apparently, lol!

Painting is progressing but I’m slowing down a bit. Work is killing me and preparing for Christmas is both time-consuming and important. I’m a father of three you see

Though I’m still confident I’ll succeed in getting both of these units and a third done before the new year. All of the great support from this forum is definitely helping!
