Fuggit Khan:

Just finished up painting the fire part of the k'daii. I'm pleased with the result. But I think taht i might still be missing something - just can't figure out what.

Bloodbeard
I really like what you've done with these guys...the colors are nice, but as you said, something seems to be missing. The more I look at them though, I'm thinking that perhaps nothing is really missing from the fire part at all, but perhaps it's just from the fact that the fireborn themselves are not painted yet...and depending how you paint the bodies up may very well change the perspective of the color balances as a whole for the model.
Painting the bodies will 'flesh out' the overall appearance and may very well prove that nothing was missing in the first place...either way, these are great models :hat off

Bloodbeard:

Fireborn - base colours

Thanks for all the input guys, I really apriciate it. I’ve also looked over the fireborn/destroyer gallery in the forums again.

I’ll give the edges of the flames some really dark red. And with a very dry brush of black 7 dark brown on some of the flame edges. I’ll also go over the white parts with a watered down yellow.

Really - thank you. This is what a blog is for, getting great input on the work.

I’m almost done with the base colours on the miniatures know. It’s taken forever. the miniatures are big, lots of details and I’m a very slow painter. Plus there is almost zero hobby time in my life right now. Half an hour before work every other week. … slow process.

But after the summer vacation, I’ll have 34 weeks at home on parental/maternity leave. Super great! Then I’ll hit 300 points easy enough. … I guess.

Unfortunately I only have my galaxy 3 as a camera. It’s great for many things, but not close up miniature pictures. Trying out different filters, to get the colours “rightish”.

Not nearly finished yet. But getting there…

The redemption battle

Played my good friend Stoffer recently. The one who destroyed me completly with his knights. He brought Khemri this time. Check out the battle report here:

Thanks for looking at the blog. Any and all input is always appriciated.

K’daii Fireborn - very slow progress

Just some pictures of the small amount of colour I’ve put on them today. Progress is way to slow. But I just can’t seem to find time for hobbying these days. But I won’t miss my pledge this month - even if it means no sleep the night before the 1st.

There is a sale going a my bits store. 50% of all bits. So I ended up buying a juggernaught for an even bigger Taur’ruk. So the one i had planed will only become a champion.

And some dark elf chariot spears/pointy things for some beast handler unitfillers.

A goal

By the end of april I wnat to have a 2000 point army medal and a 5 pictures in gallery medal.

A confession

I never thought I would get metal miniatures for my army. Never. Never liked them old big hat fellows. Hate working with and painting metal. Nothing but converted plastic in my army.

Just bought two big hat heroes and Astrogoth from Obsidian. …

Time makes Big Hats of us all.

Zhatek The Weird:

Holy mother of Hashut those K’daii look wicked sick, i bet they are gonna look amazing when finished.

Admiral:

They’re starting to look great.

Fuggit Khan:

I’ve been really enjoying the updates on your fireborn…I actively watch/enjoy each and every army blog here on CDO, and naturally I have my personal favorites for some blogs.

All the army blogs on CDO are pretty damn cool, but your blog has all the trimmings that I enjoy so much: good pics, creative conversions and great commentary to go along with your progress. If I have not said it before, I will say it here again: my thanks to you (and everybody else) for keeping your blog going and sharing it with all of us :hat off

Bloodbeard
Nice to see that you are starting the path of Hashuts Big Hats :cheers

Admiral:

Ah, yes. Even purist masked armies can do with some big hat characters. Yet now you’re on a slippery slope!

Zhatek The Weird:

Maybe one day when i finish my army, the legion of Zhatek will journey to your battlefield, Bloodbeard.
And maybe ally with you against all the non :hashut worshippers.
Or fight you, because we are Dawi Zharr after all.

The Dawi Zharr stands strong.

Yodrin:

Love those fireborns, LF to seeing them done. Now go and get some paint on those bad boys;)

Admiral:

Would it be silly if you painted a fiery glow in the open Minotaur’s mouth? And perhaps in every nostril? I don’t know if it would look good, just tossing ideas at you.

I second this. I'd also recommend glowing eyes ;)

I third this! The more demonic, the better!

Very slippery. ... Very...

Yodrin
Would love to see them done. But it's like my pregnant wife in the middle of moving to a new house wont accept my "but it's a tribute and offering to Hashut" arguement.

I sure would love that. Let us join forces and crush some allied dwarf and high elf forces.

Admiral
No, it would not!

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I hadn't considered doing the burning nostrils and mouth. Of cause the holes to the inside of the daemons should be lit up by bright burning fire.

Alas I had already painted the mouth and tongue in more mundane colours. And I still want to make my pledge for the month.

But I'll redo the minitures eventually with your awesome suggestions.

Now for highlighting and washing the miniatures.

Battle Report
Played a game against a highly mobile and fast High Elf army some time ago. It's one of the best battles I've had yet - and certainly the best defeat. Make sure to check it out here:

Community awards
The community awards is another great tradition and unique thing about CDO.

I would like to thank the people who nominated me. I'm very happy for this and humbled - there are so many active and contributing members here.

So thank you.

Work work - Fireborn

So I get of an hour of painting every morning (every other week) before going to work. So that’s not a lot of hobby time. But slow and steady the fireborn are nearing completion.

I’ve painted the flames with more red, lesser white and some black drybrushing - as per user suggestions. Thank for all the advice - the flames look much better now.

The purple “highlights” are done on all six. The grey skin highlight only done on two miniatures. So I’ll show the progress on them.

Tried taking the pictures outside. The colours look way better on the pictures that way.

The slippery Big Hat slope

Recieved these three miniatures from Obsidian. Very smooth trade, quick delivery. And the price were very reasonable.

Will need to change all the banner poles for cobber rod or something more stable.

Hero with Axe 2 (as per the wiki, the axe down guy) is one of the best miniatures I’ve ever seen. At keep picking him up and looking at him. … Darn it.

He’ll eventually become a battlestandard bearer. My current BSB were the biggest in my gaming group - now a Beastman have picked an even bigger banner. … So I’ll have to make a new one.

Hero with Axe 1 - no plans for that guy yet.

Astrogoth needs to be converted. I want to give him The Black Hammer of Hashut - so some kind of two handed monster. He was in a blisterpack yesterday, but I had to see him with my hands.

Starting looking through blogs and showcases for painted Astrogoths. It can be a bit hard to see all the details. Some pointers towards close up pictures of his back would be nice.

Yodrin:

Your Fireborn i is comming along nicely, great work!!

A very slippery slope...which has led you to these classic mini's :hat off
Hashuts Big Hats welcomes you :hashut

K’daii Fireborn - finished!

Finally. After months of (not to serious work) and lots of broken pledges and two cases beer for the pledge group - I’m finally done with my K’daii Fireborn.

This project has been great. The best and coolest unit I have ever done. Thanks for all the advice and kind words during the process.

Now for pictures.

Tried using Agrellan Earth for a cracking skin with lava underneath effect. Didn’t work. A friend told me I could put other colour in the agrellan earth pot - you can’t.

A couple with a filter

Tried out a filter.

Banner

This was a cool freehand roject (and only my second banner done this way). Started frawing it on paper, then draw it on the banner with a pencil and finally painted it. Tried to keep it in the old school style.

The vulcano has the Dawi Zharr rune for vulcano/fury inside. It’s chained to symbolize the nature of the K’daii. On the little talisman is the rune for “slave” and on the top of the banner is the hashut rune and the rune for “death”.

next up

K’daii Destroyer!

Bad Gram Northern:

These are seriously the best K’daai conversions I have ever seen!

I might try to copy this idea sometime!

The freehand banner is also very impressive

I hope you’re going to do the destroyer similare in style to these?

Yodrin:

They came out really great!!! Great conversions, painting and colors and the banner is very impressive!!

LF to seeing you WIP on your choice of Destroyer, hope you do something similar to these guys!! ;)

Admiral:

Well done! They’re surely one of the best K’daai conversions I too have seen. Good conversions, good painting and stunning result. The banner, though a bit cartoony, turned out nice as well. If you get even more ambitious in the future you could attempt off-source lighting from the fire, but that would be way more difficult to pull off than anything I’d like to try.

Now you need a big bull Destroyer. :cheers
