Dînadan:

Nice K’daii conversions, looking forward to seeing them finished

Admiral:

The detailing work is well worth the effort. You’ll have a unit to be proud of for many years to come!

Bloodbeard:

Love how you've brought the bull back with those K'daii, can't wait to see them finished :)

MadHatter
Thank you. I try to get the bull into as many things a possible. And the K'daii should definitely be bull like only fitting that they resemble Hashut.

Dînadan
Thanks. Will be some time before they are painted.

Admiral
I'm really excited about the result. And rather proud. They've come out exactly as I've imagined the fireborn.

K'daii Fireborn - done! Modelled at least
Finished up my unit of fireborn for a battle against khemri tonight. Will only be able to fit 5 of the unfortunately.

The toiletpaper/super glue fire really worked great. So thanks to Kyte for the advice. Both the flames at their bottom and the shoulders are made from toiletpaper.

I plan on painting them grey/black skinned. And paint lava colour near the fire and give it a layer of agrellan earth.

I think of the k'daii af fire made flesh. And constantly the demons are about to break. So the crackling effect will work great. The armour and chains are there to help hold the fireborn together for as long as possible. Eventually they'll go puff in a cascade of flames.

Well. Check them out!

My camera (phone) really had a hard time to capture good photos. Must be all the black and the poses. They cast shadows on themselves.

K'daii Destroyer
I originally planned on painting the fireborn, then build bull centaurs and then the destroyer.

But I'm playing a WoC army in two days, 2000 points. And I've seen how nasty even his cheapest daemonprince was a 1300 points.

And saturday I'm playing a bretonia army at 2000 points and he encouraged me to bring the destroyer. So if the virtuous glory hunting honorable ponyboys want a monster to slay - I will oblige. would also be a shame if those knight errants so stay so forever.

First WIP. A ghorgon wearing a stonehorn mask. He'll emerge from the portal. Lava and flames everywhere. He'll be pulling himself out by a rock formation. Big plans. ... But he just need to be gamable.

And he'll be leaning/crawling a lot more forward.

BABIS:

great progress!

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Yodrin:

Yes, great progress. LF to seeing these bad girls painted…

Fuggit Khan:

Your Fireborn are awesome…and they’re big! I had not realized just how big they are until I saw the photo of one of them next to a Chaos Dwarf (true, Dwarfs are short…).

I love that they are so big, adds to the flair of them being daemons…and I really like your Destroyer coming out of a portal, nice way to capture him being ‘summoned’ to heed the will of his Dawi Zharr masters.

Great stuff :hat off

MadHatter:

Really cool idea with the portal, I also like the choice of model  Is that portal greenstuff?

Sticklander:

Those fireborn truly represent the chaotic nature of fire made flesh! Really looking forward to seeing them painted!

Ambitious work on the destroyer! I hope to see a battle report between you and the Bretonnians!

Admiral:

I second the praise. Great progress. I’m surprised the superglued toilet paper fire turned out that good.

Bloodbeard:

Thanks for all the praise and nice words my fellow dawi zharr. Nice to get some compliments. Especially living in a small town, I don’t get to see the boys that often anymore. So knowing somebody is apriciating the stuff that I do is very nice.

I sure do appreciate all the other blogs on the site. Thanks.

MadHatter
No, the green part is some kind of foam plates. It’s super cheap and bought at a hardware store. Used under wooden floors. The great thing is that it’s holds any lines you pres into it with a pencil.

Made the wood parts of my hellcannon with that foam.

Sticklander
This is truly I great compliment. Was going for that feeling.

Had my 6yo boy at the game, so didn’t take notes or pictures. Wanted to make the game smooth and involve him as much as possible. … I will write something up - but the battle went totally bad.

Admiral
Worked great. Real easy and really fast to make. Got glue everywhere of cause. Kyte’s been doing a lot of really cool stuff this way.

Banners

Part of my pledge for this month is painting three banners. I’m currently done with two.

Infernal Guard handweapons and shields

Basically the chaos dwarf warriors of our time. I really like the old school banners - so decided to copy them.

For all the dawi zharr lore masters this is the inspiration.

Infernal Guard with fireglaives

There is obviously no old banner for this unit. So I made up something myself. Not quite happy with the result. I’ll properly enlarge the lightning bolts a bit. Looks to “tribal” at the moment.

K’daii Destroyer

I made some more work on the destroyer so I could use him in the latest battles. I wont work anymore on him before I’ve painted the fireborn. The portal needs flames, the destroyer will get flames on the back too.

I’ll put a large hashut rune on the large rock and more plastic strip and lots of bolts on the portal.

I’ve used the same shield for his shoulderpads as the fireborns gutplates and for his other set of shoulders the same kind of pad as the fireborn. This will help tie the two units nicely together.

Battle Report

Wrote a detailed battle report with pictures over my 2000 point game against WoC. Check it out here:

Yodrin:

Very nice banners there Bloodbeard, excellent work actually!!!.

Your Destroyer is going to look crazy good I think, LF to seeing him painted!!

Bloodbeard
S'all good, it comes off well! :D

Ah, do you think it was the influence of an unexperienced Dawi Zharr general that made the odds turn against you? ;) haha

That is some amazing free hand work on those banners! Both of them are great!
And the destroyer is coming along nicely. Might have to steal the ghorgon and stonehorn head idea!

Zanthrax:

Destroyer looks ace- looking forward to seeing him painted up.

Fuggit Khan:

I love your painted banners…always cool to see banners that were inspired by the old school banners from the original 4th edition army book. Nice choice of colors on them, the colors keep a really nice ‘unified’ look to your Dawi Zharr :hat off

Thank you. He sure will get brutal and big. Let's hope he doesn't get hero killing blowed too often!

Feel free to "steal" all you want. That's the whole point of the blogs I think. I've sure have taken in a lot of inspiration!

Thanks. He properly wont get finished until april.

I generally like the newer models (6-start 8th ed.) better than the old 4th ed miniatures. A lot of the newest 8th ed miniatures i don't like.

But banners have never been better than back in the day - so much character in them. Had to use them.

K'daii Fireborn - fire!
Just finished up painting the fire part of the k'daii. I'm pleased with the result. But I think taht i might still be missing something - just can't figure out what.

Since fire is brightest at the ignition point I've paited them i this order, from center and out:

White, iyanden darksun (yellow) , tausept ochre (yellow), macharius solar orange, clear orange (vallejo), blood red.

Then washed it all with gryphonne sepia.

Thinking i might add some black ad the flame edges or wash with something else. Please share your input - so many great painters here.

Missed my pledge for february - had zero time for painting. ... or I chose to play instead. So I owe the boys beer. On the other hand 5 og 7 pledgers missed it in february.

Redemption
Will play the bretonia player again saturday! This time I sure hope Hashut is on my side. I'll be going great weapons and razor banner - open them cans up!

Yodrin:

And we have take off!!! comon, lets se them done ;)

tjub:

Looks great, maybe a little darker on the edges of the flames. Your concept turned out great!

Dînadan:

Agree with you that there’s something missing about the fire, but like you, not sure what :s

Still, nice work - looking forward to seeing them finished

JMR:

tjub
Agreed with Tjub. You need to go further into the deep reds with some dark brown and black at (some) flame tips.

MadHatter:

Wow, seems to be coming out real nice. I think they will look amazing when finished!
